Normally summer vacation meant that it was time for teachers and students alike to relax and take a break. The summer brought good weather for people to have fun in the sun and to just take a breather from the normal stresses that school brought. It was an exam and homework free time that students and teachers both took advantage of. Hikari should have been enjoying the lack of work and basking in the glory of a few months of vacation. Instead, she was facing the exact opposite.
It had been months since she had talked to John in any personal capacity. There had been brief times where they had to speak on a professional level being that they were both professors at Hogwarts. However, he hadn’t extended any sort of sign that would have led her to believe he wanted her back and she didn’t act first either. She didn’t want to act first because she was afraid. What if he rejected her again?
The truth was, the separation was killing her inside. It wasn’t as bad as the first time when she left because of a misunderstanding. That time was worse because of the revelation that she was a half breed had surfaced, leaving her alone and dealing with the pain and struggles by herself. It had broken her, but he had been there to fix it. He wasn’t here to fix her now and she was beginning to be afraid he never would be again.
She wanted to go find him and talk to him. She wanted to apologize for the way she had acted and beg for him. At the same time, she was so afraid of his rejection. She had thrown the ring back to him and called off the engagement, a move that she had regretted time and time again since the day that she had done it. Reflecting back at the situation, she realized she probably acted a bit hastily. Sure, he had been treating her different. He hadn’t been telling her much and their relationship was separating but she now kept thinking about the what if’s.
What if she had done more to talk to him? What if she had just stuck with it? These questions rang through her head.
As much as she wanted to go and see him, another part of her stopped her. She felt like she couldn’t trust him anymore. The first time she had left because of the misunderstanding that he was only asking her to move in for Kathryn, he had come back. He had told her he would never hurt her and that he’d always be there for her…Lo and behold, their relationship eventually started growing apart and she felt he made no move to save it at all.
It was something that she didn’t know how to deal with. She wanted, no needed, him in her life. At the same time, she was afraid to trust him. She just didn’t know what to do.
Sighing, Hikari got out of bed. It was a beautiful day outside and she wanted to go and at least enjoy some of it. She quickly changed into some muggle attire, donning on a pair of jeans and a t shirt before she grabbed some money. She was going to head to the little café that John had taken her to. Despite the fact that they hadn’t spoken in ages, she still frequented the café when she could and became good friends with the owners. Since it was such a lovely day, she figured it would be best to go and get some ice cream and drop by since she hadn’t had much time to go during the school year. Grabbing her wand and putting it in her pocket, she grabbed her keys and left the house, locking the door before she walked down the sidewalk and towards the café that was a few streets away.
