The earth shook
That's all I know
The house collapsed
That's all I know
I'm trapped in this living nightmare
That's all I can think about
The darkness is the only thing I can see
The rubble on my legs is all I can feel
A time before the quake seems like a dream in this darkness
The darkness seems like the only reality
How long have I been trapped?
Do my parents know I'm here?
Did my parents get trapped as well?
Will this darkness be the last thing I ever see?
Was that a voice I heard?
The shifting of rubble perhaps?
My heart thuds painfully in my chest
I hear voices calling my name
It doesn't seem real
It doesn't seem possible
But it is!
I can see light filtering from where they moved the rubble
I can hear voices calling for me
I can smell the fresh air flowing through the hole in the rubble
I'm being pulled from the rubble
That's all I know
The darkness is erased by the bright sun
That's all I know
I see my parents weeping for joy that I've been found
That's all I care about.
Okay, this is a poem I had to write for my English class. We were supposed to take the point of view of someone in Hati when the earthquake struck. This is what I wrote.
