 Katie turned to look at the small 2nd year and shook her head. Who in the world could get kicked out of Charms? Shaking head disaprovingly she heard the bell and packed up her things and smiled at Adam. "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Charms we go." She half sang as she flung her bag over her shoulder and started for the door.

Daniel looked very stern as he looked at James. Today had not been a good day and he was very frustrated with everything else let alone this trouble maker of a second year getting sent to him. "Mr. Wixom, I hope you understand that you are in some serious trouble. 5 points from Gryffindor for speaking so informally about the Deputy Headmistress. She may be your sister outside of School but inside school she has a proper title and I don't want to hear of you abusing it any more am I understood? As for getting kicked out of Professor Wixom's class, did either Professor Travis or Professor Wixom give you detention? If so let me see the slip, if not, I'll expect to see you in my office each night for one week, no complaints. Now if that is all I suggest you get to History of Magic before you get into even more trouble." With that said Daniel took a deep breath and faced his class. "Make sure you read the first 2 chapters by tomorrow or it's points off and detntion, someone make sure to tell Ms. Allen that. Have a good afternoon."

At Professor Blackburn's scolding James nodded. That was even more points off and he finally had scored detention. "I'll be in your office for detention tonight sir. Have a good evening." With that he quickly spun on his heel and left the Defense room walking as quickly as he could to History of Magic.

Adam shook his head. Professor Blackburn was strict and he felt sorry for the second year now getting scolded infront of all the fifth years. When Katie bolted at the bell he shook his head. She must really not have wanted to see him angry. Making a mental note of the 2 chapters thing he packed up his things and followed the red head out of the classroom. That he had dared call the Deputy Headmistress Emily in front of Blackburn sent shivers down his spine.

{ nichole ღ и α т α ℓ ι є ღ buchannan }  Shaking her head, Nichole collected her things while making a mental note of the chapters she was to read, even though she had already read them. But it didn't hurt to refresh the memory. Once she shouldered her bookbag, Nichole turned and smiled brightly at Kaydin. "So, will you be accompanying me to Charms?" she asked, extending her hand out to him.

 Scarlett Eaves Scarlett skipped into the DADA classroom, totally re-energized after a dull second period. Defense Against the Dark Arts was her favorite class, so she was very excited to begin the lesson and learn some defense. She took a seat at the head of the class and waited for the rest of her peers (plus their professor) to show up.

Daniel walked in just as the bell rang and nodded at the students in his class. "Sorry to cut it so close, my morning has been absolutely crazy." He started by passing out the papers he had graded and then moved to the front of the room. He was entertained to see Ricky come sliding to a halt as he sprinted into the room just seconds after him. "Cutting it close there Sanders, but I won't dock you this time because had you been 2 seconds earlier I would have been face first on the ground from you running me over." With that he handed Ricky his things and watched his face fall. "You can see me for extra help if needed Sanders. Everyone's been slipping since the Hogsmeade trip." With that done Daniel went to the front of the class and neatly stacked the remaining papers of missing students on the corner of his desk. "Morning everyone, we're few in numbers but today we're going to pair up and duel non verbally. Now I don't want any unforgivable curses, make sure you play fair, and I want no speaking. Any violations of these rules will result in discipline."

Ricky had been sprinting down the hall trying to beat the bell. He knew Professor Blackburn's tardy policy and that it was not kind. So when he was still a few steps from the door when the bell sounded he swore under his breath but kept sprinting. As he ran into the classroom he skidded half the aisle trying to stop and was thankful he hadn't fallen over. He quickly slid into the seat next to Scarlett and nodded as Professor Blackburn said he wouldn't be penalized for his tardiness. When he got his paper back and saw all the red marks on it his heart sank. When he then saw a 46% glaring back at him on the last page he felt sick to his stomach. Defense had always been his best class and he had beat his brains out trying to do this essay. If he was going to become an Auror he had to do well in Defense and now he was way behind. Upon hearing Professor Blackburn's remarks about seeing him for extra help Ricky couldn't help but groan. He had no time but he had to get that extra help if he wasn't even passing his assignments. He nodded quickly and shoved the paper in his bag hoping Scarlett hadn't seen. When they were told they would be dueling each other silently Ricky turned to Scarlett with a forced calm expression. "Do you want to be my partner again?"

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett laughed quietly to herself as Ricky ran into the room and tried not to fall over. The bravado and optimism she had felt going into the class faded slightly, though, as she got back her paper and saw an 86% on it. She sighed in relief as she was glad she hadn't made a lower grade on it. It was lower than her usual A's, but she would take a B over a C any day. She saw Ricky hastily shoving his paper into his bag in a disgruntled fashion, his face sullen and disappointed. Wonder what he got, she thought to herself, wondering if she should also offer to help him just like the professor had asked him moments before. When Ricky asked her to be his partner, she smiled at him and said, "Sure thing. I don't mind one bit."

Ricky smiled at Scarlet and nodded getting to his feet. He couldn't dwell on his paper right now, he would just have to do better next time and bring it up. With a smile he was trying to make genuine he silently started the duel. Nonverbal spells were not what he had to brush up on, for he had been one of the first to get them down last year and once he got it it just came natural. He wished he could talk to Scarlett but the rules had been no talking and Blackburn was not one he planned on challenging. The man had been wounded in the battle but he still held strong just like all the other teachers that had been hurt in it. Professor Yelsah, Professor Blackburn, Professor Travis, Professor Yomamato, and Professor Wixom were now idles to him. He couldn't say much for Headmaster Dasklin since he had left the school again leaving Emily to go completely crazy trying to manage the school and keep the board from coming after her. The woman had enough on her plate without taking on other teachers' responsibilities.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett faced Ricky, determination blazing in her eyes, and began the duel eagerly. After the Hogsmeade incident, Scarlett had a newfound fire in her to become an Auror. She wanted nothing more than to defend the magical community and save their lives in the event something like Hogsmeade happened again (which was inevitable, as much as Scarlett wished otherwise). She vowed to try her absolute best in her classes and reach her dream and thus become part of the next generation of magical defenders.

Ricky kept up the duel with Scarlett and couldn't help but smile. The girl was putting her heart and soul into it and giving him a real good challenge and that was good. It had been his lifes dream to become and Auror and after seeing the Hogsmeade situation he knew that that was his calling. It had torn him apart to be ordered to safety and he was determined to pick up his game. He was glad that he had asked Scarlett to be his partner because she was on the same path as he was and that would give him a good challenge making it all that much better. "Scar we should do this on our own sometimes. Get in a little extra practice." He knew he shouldn't be talking for a couple reasons but he also knew he would probably forget if he didn't say it now. One reason was that it distracted him slightly from the duel and the other was Blackburn's 'no talking' rule. Sure enough as soon as he said it Ricky was blasted backwards by one of Scarlett's spells and Blackburn turned on him.

"Sanders I suggest you shut it now before I make it so you'll have detention instead of extra time to practice." Daniel's voice was firm as he looked up from his stack of papers. Though they weren't speaking the incantations he still wanted no speaking because he wanted the students to focus on the duel. When Ricky was blasted backwards Daniel shook his head. "That's why I say can it. I don't need anyone getting hurt because they are not paying attention and when you're out in the real world there is no 'oops let me try that again.' You only get one chance and that's the end." By this time Daniel was standing and speaking to the entire class while Ricky faught to get to his feet. He had been blasted into one of the desks behind him and then it had tipped over. He was now caught between the desk and chair he knocked over, and the desk that had beside it. "You all saw the Hogsmeade scene whether you spent physical time in the shop with the death eaters or if you just watched from the Three Broomsticks. You saw how consentrated everyone was and even then some of our best fighters went down. Professor Yelsah was badly hurt in the battle, I was hurt in the battle slightly as well as Professor's Yelsah, Travis, and Yomamato, Headmaster Dasklin lost his son and Professor Wixom was hurt so bad she had to be carried out of the fight. She may be fine now but she was only given one chance and the only reason she survived was because young Kathryn Yelsah broke her free before running for cover herself. If Miss Eaves had been your real opponent and this a real duel she would have kept attacking you when you were down. Many opponents won't care if you are down but keep going. They will often go for the kill if they can Sanders and right now you would be attacked again and again had I not stopped the class and had this been the real deal. Soon I'm going to have it actually go like that. You won't take turns throwing spells at each other but your goal will be to either knock the other person out or to make it so they can't fight anymore. This won't happen until you are prepared and you will not be prepared until you physically show me you are all mature enough and ready for it."
Daniel scanned his class quietly. They knew his expectations by now and they knew not to mess around or they would regret it. Daniel took a deep breath and continued. He wasn't meaning to come down so hard and he hadn't meant to turn this into a lecture class but this was a perfect moment. Especially for 6th and 7th years. "I'm actually really glad this has happened Mr. Sanders because it gives me the opportunity to point things like this out. You all may murmur that Professor Yelsah and I are so strict on not talking, not passing notes, not goofing around, doing things on time, and stuff like that. Just realize we do it to help you. Professor Yelsah has seen a lot more than I care to ever see but both of us know the real world. If you plan to go anywhere in the world you have to step up your game. A single noise can give away your position or your thoughts. You must have full concentration to keep going or it doesn't work. The other side can do magic as well and they won't take a break. You must put your heart and soul into it and realize that sometimes even that is not enough. If you can't give 110% you shouldn't be fighting because they will see your weakness. I mentioned Kathryn Yelsah a moment ago and her bravery in helping Emily Wixom. All of you know how timid and shy Kathryn was but since her adoption Professor Yelsah has helped her get stronger and more confident. You wonder why Emily Wixom is so strong? How in the world she can keep going after all she's been through? All she's seen? That woman may be the ideal blond but she has her wits about her. She gives 110% into everything she does and she fights with every ounce she has in her. She knows she can't give up because then all that she has fought for and remained so strong for is worth nothing if she just gives up. I believe that woman will fight to the end just like Albus Dumbledore, Severous Snape, Lily and James Potter, Sirius Black, and all the others from the last Wizarding War with Lord Voldemort."

As soon as Ricky went flying he had made himself loose to lessen the impact of landing. He struggled to a sitting position and by the time he got there Blackburn had started in on the lecture. He nodded about the warning of detention and sat still as he listened in pure awe. As he thought about it he knew that Professor Blackburn was right. In the real world there really was just one chance and that was all they got. If they weren't killed they were at least made not able to fight and in the auror field they had to be ready for absolutely anything. There was no time for messing around. As soon as Professor Blackburn had finished Ricky got to his feet. "Sorry Professor, Sorry Scarlett, it won't happen again." At that he stood with his wand at the ready waiting for Scarlett to give the ready signal and start.

Scarlett Eaves Scarlett gasped whenever she sent Ricky flying into the desks. She wanted to apologize, but then Professor Blackburn began lecturing the class and dropping some real world knowledge. She listened transfixed, awed by the honesty in Blackburn's words. He wasn't sugar coating anything; he was making everyone see the world for what it could truly be. Upon hearing the reference to the ones who died in the war against Voldemort, Scarlett felt a new sense of purpose for she too wanted to be considered as brave as them and fearless and selfless enough to fight to the death in the name of protecting millions of lives.
Blackburn finished speaking and Ricky apologized. Scarlett was about to give Ricky the signal to begin the duel once more, but the bell rang signaling the end of class. The class seemed to breathe a simultaneous sigh of relief after a tense class. Scarlett picked up her bookbag and stashed her wand in the pocket of her robes before turning to Ricky and saying, "I'm so sorry about hurting you; I didn't think it would hit you that hard. About what you said, though, I'd be more than happy to get in a little extra practice with you some time. Just tell me when and I'll be there. Oh and for the record, I wouldn't hit you when you're down; you're not my enemy." Scarlett laughed softly, trying to ease the tension out of both her and Ricky.
