Greetings to all.

MissMiyavi43 here (soon to be 44 for obvious reasons). Call me Kym if you like, I don't mind at all.

Who am I? It depends on the day and the hair color. Normally (if such a term can be ascribed to me), I am a published author and part time editor. Every so often I get crafty, go to Michael's (or the jewelry/garment district of Downtown Los Angeles), buy a bunch of jewelry-making supplies and spent two days doing nothing else but making assorted necklaces and bracelets all the while watching Last Exile, Gilgamesh, Emma, Ergo Proxy or Sequest DSV. I'm interested in all sorts of things and the secret of staying young is to never stop being excited about all the wonderful stuff there is to learn or to experience.

Labels are interesting things. Sometimes I find them helpful, such as when describing my evolution from punk nerd to metalhead to victorian goth to elegant gothic aristocrat. On the other hand, some labels tend to create artificial barriers and I have a difficult time accepting the words "shouldn't" and "can't" when it comes to who I am or want to be. For instance, I am a black woman and I'm certainly more than the sum of those two words and the images they often engender. I don't fit anyone's preconceived notions of because everyday I rewrite the book of me. Hell, I never know what I'm going to do from one moment to the next.

I don't think of myself as Christian, but a work-in-progress. I would rather be a positive light than beat someone over the head with words from a book that most people truly never read. I've often found it fascinating (and quite ironic) that my pagan companions are far more biblically literate than those I used to attend church with. I want my actions and my love to speak louder than words. Sometimes I succeed, other days I have to rein it in. I admit to a certain amount of wiccan sensibility, especially when it comes to their more enlightened views of gender.

That's it for now. This sounds like a fun and thought-provoking guild. I look forward to chatting with you all.

By the way, still a metalhead (can we say Symphony X and Kamelot??? biggrin )...
