Well, it won't always come striaght after.
Or it could be a lie.

The pattern is quite often found, but most people expect it to be a major sadness, then a major happiness, each being exact opposites (I.E., Death, then some sort of birth or other thing coming into your life, bringing great happiness).
The pattern of good-bad events is seen is most everyone's everyday life, just many of us fail to be able to compare any small amounts of good to large amounts of bad, or even the good in the bad.

For example, about two years ago, late in the very same night, both my grandfather and great-grandmother died. The next morning, at around 0600, the chemical plant 400 yards across the field from my house had lithium batteries get wet by melted snow, and it subsequently set the whole plant up in very large, dangerous explosions, and my family, and all others around it, had to be evacuated until the next day.

Now, many who have or might go through this sort of series of events or those I have told about it think I see it as an overall shitty day. While, truth be told, it did really suck, I see the positives in it:
-My grandfather was suffering from rapidly progressing Lewy Body Dementia, and I see his death as a release from his suffering, because in his state, he was in complete psychosis.
-My great grandmother was like my grandfather, except she had terrible Alzheimer's, and had gangrene on much of her lower legs.
-The explosion gave us the chance to go and see my grandmother, with whom we stayed after being evacuated.

Also, since that ordeal, we no longer have to worry about either of my relatives. While, true, we were very sad to have lost them, it comforts us knowing that they're no suffering, and that they could possibly be in whatever afterlife they may or may not have believed in.

Along with these losses, several days later, one of our mares gave birth to a health baby foal. Completely irrelevant to the incident, but it was something to look up to.

It doesn't even have to be any sort of birth or extremely happy thing. You could flunk a test for a negative, and then just spend a good night hanging out with friends as a positive. Life is always going to be just as happy as you make it. I prefer to try and find a more positive or less-depressing angle to view it from.

(And Ved, please tell me you were joking about the bear thing... A bear can take you head clean off with one hit to the head...)

Actually, what Ved said, does actually work, but not always. Depends on if the bear still has a plug up it's a** or if it's irritable.

Now to make this post relavent.

LESSON:

Never, ever, ever, EVER try to light your crotch on fire. Just don't. It's stupid.

IRRELAVENT:
About the bear thing, I just got it off of Manswers, with does have good points.
So I say it should be more of an option to those who can't run.

RELAVENT:
Don't travel to large political events, your standing space will only be the size of a piece of paper.
Do enjoy the last day of a semester.

Don't let yourself get obsessed with a guy you've just met. Oy, heartbreak.

If one of your relatives confides to you with a personal problem, don't rat to their parents. Or your parents. Or anyone.

No matter how painful, sometimes you need to keep your mouth shut. A bloody tongue is better than a broken home.

If you can't talk to your family, talk to complete strangers. They're usually more sympathetic, more accepting, and generally give better advice.
