I was sitting by my bed last night, listening to some classical music, when I saw a strange shape outside my window. I took my headphones off and stood up for a better look. The rock music trickling from below assaulted my senses for a moment, but I adjusted quickly.
Something that looked like a large bird stood on my window ledge. With a quick flick of the wrist, I opened the window. To my surprise, the animal was a large barn owl, and in it's beak it held a slip of paper. When I reached for it, the owl let go of the paper and flew off. The envelope floated silently into my hand. Odd thing. I tore open the envelope to find a long letter inside.
Reading it carefully a few times over, I was shocked to find there were others like me. Buffy wouldn't be too happy about the news when she found out. People like her! Maybe they could explain what was wrong with her.
Sitting ontop of my bed with the rock music drumming loudly below me, I thought of all the opportunities this magical new school could give. Opportunities that, in the future, would help me decide how I wanted to live my life.
I decided I wanted to go to this 'Hogwarts', but I wanted to go as a new person. So I decided I should change my name to go with my new life.
It took me a few hours of pouring over books in the local library to find a name that had a strong meaning and history. I found a book that depicted a flower that could live for centuries without water and soil, withstanding strong heat and cold weather, the Jericho Rose. I thought this would be a strong last name. When I went to reply to the Hogwarts letter, I found that I wasn't satisfied with my new name, it wasn't complete. I sat and reflected on my life. With a sad smile, I decided I would honor my first true best friend as well. On my beloved Hogwarts letter I signed, Anika Katherine Jericho. Thus, beginning my new life.
Now all I need is to go out and buy some supplies...

********************************************* January 15, 05Dear Diary,
I've been busy these past few days getting ready for my trip to Hogwarts. Two days ago, Buffy took me to the local mall and we shopped for hours! It was a beautiful day. We had a blast... until I accidentally spilled Buffy's soda ontop of her. Ya, the day went down hill after that. She grounded me all day yesterday. You know Buffy and her precious soda. So I took the day to clean up my room. It wasn't that messy, but a few things needed a good dusting.
It took most of the day to clean my room. I only stopped to have some lunch and a couple of bathroom breaks. While cleaning my room, I stumbled upon a red-leather book hidden behind my dresser. It was covered in years of dust. I don't know how I had missed it before, since I always cleaned behind there.
The book was made of a strange material. It's red exterior was bright and vibrant; very peculiar since it was covered in years worth of grime and gunk. I rubbed down the sides to find the pages were still in good shape; they were a soft peach color. Both sides of the cover were blank. When I tried to open it, it wouldn't budge. It didn't even have a lock! Strange...
Since I was trying to keep a tight schedule, I put the book ontop of my dresser and continued to clean the rest of the place up. I heard Buffy calling, so I went to dinner. When I came back, the book was gone, but I didn't notice. It had slipped my mind. So I went to bed.
I woke up this morning to find Buffy standing over me, holding out a large duffle bag. She told me to stick everything I wanted to take to Hogwarts, outside of clothes. Clothes go in a different bag. I quickly got to it. The duffle bag wasn't that large, so I had to choose carefully. I threw in a few books along with some of my favorite stuffed animals. Then, as I was zipping the bag up, I caught a glimps of a red-leathery looking object. I then remembered the book which I had found the day before. I tried to pull it out, but it seemed to be stuck inside. I decided to leave it where it was for now, perhaps when I got to Hogwarts one of the teachers could have a look at it or something. It was sure strange.

It's been a few since I've written in here Diary. I would have jotted something down, but there was nothing to tell, until today that is. Buffy has been acting odd lately. She's been in and out of the apartment, dissapearing for days at times. At least I haven't had to fend for myself in terms of food, but shesh, I'd like to know where she's run off to some times. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to go with her. But I'm too afraid to ask her what's up. I'll just have to wait and see if she'll tell me.
On a happier note, I recieved a letter today in the mail. It was rather odd too; it didn't have my full name on it. Just said "To Anika, From Eragon." I don't know who this Eragon is, but he sounded like a nice boy. Yes, a boy. Inside the letter was a strange photograph. I say strange because he looks very stiff and ridgid. As if this was a military-issue photo or something, but he seems soo young.
Anyhow, the letter was pretty short. He was asking who I was and what I was doing with Buffy. It was an odd, strange, letter. Some of the sentences didn't really make sense with each other, as if someone had edited the letter before sending it to me. That, or the boy has some serious grammer problems.
I plan on writing back to him, telling him a little about myself. With it, I'm also going to send a pretty picture I have of myself with Buffy.I have duplicates, so it shouldn't be a problem.
