~Wednesday 17th June, 2026 (optimistically tagging this as Part I).Now playing: Peasant's Throne - Lilith Max I am the king and you my loyal subjects. Bow down and swear servility...Doing a little post today because I didn't do one yesterday. The last two weeks I've not achieved much (read: anything at all) but yesterday I made a start and clocked in. My initial challenge I set myself is to convert the stuff I've written so far (the stuff I'm keeping anyway) to past tense as my original draft was present. This is largely because my editors feel my MC is too immature and I wonder if changing the tense might help me to reevaluate the voice a little better, plus would distinguish the book from my last one which was written in first person present tense. Honestly, so far it's mostly a task that's keeping me busy and getting me back into the book and the world without really changing much. Not sure whether it's impacted the voice at all, though it's made me pull back on a few of the little asides, but I will pay more attention to that in the edits. Yesterday I transcribed about 3k, which seems great except because I've not written my daily goal is now up at around 3k, so it wasn't a Progress day, just a 'progress' day lol. sweatdrop Today I'm hoping for another solid day, ideally achieving more than 3k to close the gap in my larger goals but I'm not sure yet where my original storytelling runs out, so we will have to see. It's currently 13:52, so let's crack on and see what I can accomplish! Will aim to report back before the end of the day. whee Words written today: none yet! Overall word count: 5,860 Favourite line from today/so far:From the outside we probably looked like any other travelling troupe, a hodgepodge of ages and colours and sizes, though the discerning punter might notice that we were made up almost exclusively of women and girls. Most didn’t notice though, and anyway the definition of ‘women and girls’ was open to interpretation. ... I sit above while the peasants bow below, unaware of their hostility. And the rest is history

~Wednesday 17th June, 2026 (Part II !!!).Now playing: Perfume and Milk - Florence and the Machine The trees turn grey and the land turns brown, in a house in the woods on the edge of town...Alright so, gonna be real: today was hard ******** work. I thought it would be another day of simple transcription but it turned out I hit fresh-words territory sooner than I thought, so I got about 1k transcribed, and then had to come up afresh. I definitely hit a wall. I basically hit the 1k, took a long break to walk the dog, and then my dad said he wanted to come round and watch the football, so I decided to try to write as much as I could while that was on. It wasn't an awful result, and I did finish the chapter I was working on, but unfortunately it was a fair bit shy of today's goal word count. Still, progress is progress and I'm not too disappointed. My daily goal of 3k works on a basis of me writing I think 3 or 4 days a week instead of every day, so hopefully I can still catch up a bit before I go back to work. Tomorrow I am out and about for a very much delayed birthday celebration with my best friend, so I suspect I will also not write very much, but every little helps. Words written today: 2,286 Overall word count: 8,146 Favourite line from today/so far:(chosen from fresh stuff and not stuff I transcribed because I want to celebrate true progress) In the beginning these petty thoughts of revenge were the only part of myself I recognised. The shadow parts of myself, maybe, but something real and vital. Now the thoughts felt old and cheap and hollow, a mantra repeated so many times without belief that it had lost meaning. I’ll kill her. I will. I promise.... bury it deep, swallow it down. Taking the herbs, a laurel crown

Now playing: a random episode of L&O:SVU atm
I had a great day yesterday (went pottery painting with my best friend!) but the evening got a bit derailed by personal trauma so I didn't actually write any words. Today I had a day of errands, another close friend's birthday, then saw my dad and took the dog somewhere a bit different (traumatic for a different reason, bless him). Sooo writing really didn't begin until 10pm aside from a couple hundred words I wrote first thing.
With that in mind I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made. It's now 11pm and I've been in two minds about whether I should push myself to hit my 3k goal (I suspect this would take another hour or two) or give up and go to bed...
I think, at 35 years old, I can pretend 'growth' when I choose my bed. rofl Plus, this is about building new habits and having fun, not hurting myself and hating everything XD
I doubt I'll get anything written tomorrow or Sunday due to another friend's birthday celebrations and Father's Day, but Monday is a new week and I'm not back to work until the following Monday.

I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Everything faded into the black of nothing as my eyes found the source of the fresh buzz of excitement. The queen continued to titter and greet her public, guards’ watchful eyes roving. Another woman stood off to the side, hands clasped and head bowed in a mild show of deference. “That must be the newest bride then,” Aspen said dourly, pulling her elbow back. I dug my fingers in harder.

Now playing: the hum of my bedroom fan (did I mention I can hardly ever draft to music now?)
As predicted I didn't manage to write over the weekend. I also didn't write during the day today. The UK is having a heatwave and I'm cranky, so I spent the day sat in this stupid (glorious) inflatable pool lounger thing I got. I did some reading (not enough) and didn't start writing until 9.30pm.
I didn't hit my goal, again (broken record at this point) but I'm too tired to keep going now since it's nearly midnight. Tomorrow I might be able to steal some words from my previous draft and just make them past tense, but we'll see how that goes because the new plot is diverging a bit.
I'm still not falling in love with this book or these characters and I'm not really sure what to do about that. Part of me is still hoping that will come with consistency and hard work, but I kind of doubt it... sweatdrop
Here's hoping tomorrow will be better.

~Tuesday 23rd June, 2026.Now playing: Stem the Flow - Paris Paloma And it is not my fault, it's something I was learning. I only feel at home now, in a home when it is burning...Tried a different tactic today and started writing at around 11am, hoping to break the back of things before it got too warm. I did not succeed in that part (owing only slightly to a pretty big gap over lunch where I discovered my hob was broken and needed replacing to the tune of £350 lol) but I have, for the first time in a while, succeeded in actually hitting my 3k daily goal! This is partly because today I've been back to stealing a lot of stuff from my previous draft, but honestly I'm still considering it to be a win. I've hit my inciting incident, and from here on out there's very little old stuff I'll be able to keep, but hopefully it should be more fun too because it'll all be fresh and there will be no stitching together or comparing to previous drafts. Words written today: 3,017 Overall word count: 14,550 Favourite line from today/so far:I'm including two lines, because the first is a freshly written one and the second is my favourite bit from when I drafted this scene before. #1Quote: “The girl who fled tonight—she is the reason I made my first bargain. Ours is the thorny connection of love and hope and loss and grief. She will bargain with me, I know it. I can find her again, and I can make her yours. “You can have her soul when I’m done with her as the cards intended, but please Dark Lady, I beg of you: let me punish her first. Her death must come at my hands.” #2Quote: Castle Heirn loomed overhead like a fist with its middle finger pointed at the Sky herself, though it was less a castle than a collection of many-walled palaces, a mountainous hodgepodge of towers and turrets, steep forested slopes and plunging ornate gardens between villas and ramparts all the way down to the ocean, the whole expanse winking in Heirn’s characteristic silver stone. The sight of it made me sick. ...After gathering this knowledge I have to face the truth, that you never loved me. But I tried so hard to love you

~Wednesday 24th June, 2026.Now playing: Achilles Come Down - Annapantsu Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down. Won't you get up off, get up off the roof?Heatwave day 3 (4? I've lost track) and my house is hotter than the surface of the sun. I was at my desk at 11am again, and wrote a good 800 words before midday, but honestly it's been too hot to focus so it's been hard work. Still, I'm aware that tomorrow my hob is being fitted which could mean losing writing time dpending when it happens and how long it takes as it's meant to be another day of 31+ degrees. With that being said, I ended up writing in fits and starts today, slamming in another 800 words between 10.30 and 11.30pm in order to hit my goal. I'm not completely happy with the speed the plot is progressing, but I am extremely proud of my progress, as if you'd asked me at 6pm if I was going to even try hitting my goal instead of resting at 2.2k I'd have told you NOPE. So I'm proud of myself for coming back to finish up, even if the book is rambly. I'd rather have too many words and be able to cut it down than not have a book (ask me again whether I still feel that way in the edits lol). I also managed to finish a book I've been reading for ages, and spend a delightful hour or two in the garden in my splash pool thing, so all in all a decent day for both progress and relaxation. Go me! More tomorrow, but let's see how having the hob fitted (and the continuation of 31+ degree heat) derails my best laid plans. dramallama Words written today: 3,001 Overall word count: 17,551 Favourite line from today/so far:This wavering was so unlike me that I stalled, my thoughts hitting a wall. ~Thursday 25th June, 2026.Now playing: Choreomania - Florence and the Machine And do they speak to you? 'Cause they speak to me, too...Another scorcher today. Hob is being delivered between 3-7pm so I've cut things off early. I've managed to salvage around 2.5k from my previous draft that I think I'll be able to use. I still need to change the tense and stitch it all together, but given I don't have to write again this week to keep my goal intact I might take a break now and work on the tense-changing and stitching over the next couple of days when it should start to cool down a bit. I've left myself something of a road map, so it's not as if I've done nothing today, and it's still 3k in the document even if that 3k isn't 'finished'. Words written added today: 3,021 Overall word count: 20,569 Favourite line from today/so far:“Is it true?” Elestren asked, side-stepping as though I was contagious. ~Tuesday 30th June, 2026.Now playing: Good Boy - Paris Paloma And I have never seen a creature more pitiful than him...I ended up taking the weekend off, which wasn't part of my plan, and yesterday I worked late for my stock-take shift. Today I set out to stitch together and re-tense what I'd done last week but ended up not making as much progress as I'd hoped, largely because my new hob was *finally* delivered (it works!) and then I had to tidy and clean after two weeks of it being too hot to even think about doing that. Then my dad came round. So, only managed a third of my daily goal which is... less than ideal. But given I didn't get home until midnight last night and I was pretty exhausted all day I'll take the 1.3k as a win. It was all freshly written stitching stuff together, so feels as big a win in some ways as the 3k days where I was just transcribing. Wouldn't be a bad day if not for the fact that I don't manage these numbers enough for me to hit my goal. I only have until August 31, which is now exactly 2 months. 2 months to write basically 80k. *shudder* I am a bit concerned too that I'm 22k into this book and the characters still haven't entered the deadly trials yet, but that's a bridge I'll cross in the edits. I just tell myself Katniss didn't enter the Hunger Games until the midway point dramallama Bed now since it's midnight again, I might be seeing my mum tomorrow, and I've somehow got to hit my writing goals and then some to make up for today... Hmm. I’ll never keep everybody straight.” Elestren had finished her pastry and was now onto several little sandwiches. Sugar from the sweet still coated her lips, giving them a faint sheen. I caught a whiff of something almost herbal and my stomach churned. The hours of anxiety and anger and zero sleep were catching up with me. “You probably won’t have to for long.” Before I could ask what she meant the contestants started to drop like the flies they were. ... Now playing: nothing, it's bed time
Very quick entry tonight as it's 11.30pm and I should be asleep for work tomorrow. I've adjusted my minimum writing goal so I can write 4 days a week and write less, and today I split the day with 1k this morning and another 1.2k or so tonight. I'm pleased with the progress even though the book is coming along slower than anticipated. Fingers crossed it edits better than it's writing lol.

And then Yseult was right in front of me. I could smell her—patchouli and rose. The same, but different. A bitter note swirled beneath it all, coarser than before. She was still a head taller than me, still slender as a rake. Her collar bones were more pronounced, her chin a little more pointed. She came to me and I froze. Again. “You must be new to court,” she said, and her voice was like honey—and full of rotten lies. “I know you know who I am but I wanted to introduce myself formally. I’m sure I would have remembered if we’d met before. I’m—well, in here you can just call me Yseult.”

~Monday 6th & Tuesday 7th July, 2026.Now playing: nadaaaa~ I completely forgot to update yesterday. Wrote (and transcribed) about 3k yesterday and then whisked off to my mum's to pick my car up after its MOT and service. I thought I'd get more done after I got home but by the time I'd nipped to the shop, cooked, eaten, walked the dog etc I couldn't be bothered. Ended up watching movies instead lol Today I've done fairly well again! Managed to hit the lower goal, changed my sheets and done like four loads of laundry. The rest of my usual weekly cleaning up can wait because my afternoon plans have been derailed slightly (in a good way) by Mum inviting me round for dinner. So I'm gonna pack up for the day now and get ready to head over there (after I feed the dog and peg the last laundry load out haha). Story is still coming in fits and starts. There's lots of dialogue, way too many characters, and I need a bunch of them to get binned off STAT. Fortunately I think I've found a way to do just that Words written added today: 2,657 Overall word count: 30,597 Favourite line from today/so far:Quote: I was going to kill her. I was absolutely without a shadow of a doubt going to string her up and gut her. Now playing: nadaaaa (again)~
I worked an extra day this week, so worked Weds and Thurs back to back. Heatwave part II is kind of killing me off, but it is what it is at this point. I tried my best to crank out the words today, managing only 400 words before I went to my mum's to do some grocery shopping together, and then another 1k or so between when I got home and when my dad came round. We ran a few errands and he stayed at mine to watch the football while I scrolled completely disinterestedly.
I thought, given I still had another 800 words to do at 11.30pm, that there was no way I'd get the words down, but I decided I'd at least try. Well, what would you know, less than half an hour later I have some words!
Idk if they're good words, since I've STILL not reached the drama point I mentioned in my last post, but look: the goal here is Done, not necessarily Done Well. Because hopefully my editor can help with the 'well' part.
Anywho, it's late and I'm knackered so I'm going to bed now. Got another 2.4k to do tomorrow before I head to mum's as my sister is apparently hosting a bbq (three guesses who might actually end up cooking stare ).

~Monday 13th & Wednesday 15th July, 2026.
Got to the scene I wanted, still concerned I'm 40k in and not much has happened. My writing this week has been squeezed around a trip to London yesterday to celebrate my literary agency's 18th birthday, and work tomorrow. Managed my 2.4k on Monday by about 5pm, and today I did 1k this lunchtime after a very slow start, then went to meet my mum for a shopping mooch, came home and cleaned the litter trays *shudder* and then cranked out as many words as I could before dinner and walking the dog.
It's 7.30pm so fairly successful, I'd say. Though I did stumble a bit trying to work out a plot thing involving how the bargaining works for my MC when she (and her victims) are outside the fair... so I've literally just left that in [[square brackets]] for now lmao. That is a problem for future me.

All done today by 5pm. The words are definitely flowing easier this week, for which I am glad. Still feels very light on the plot, but I have to keep going and hope it all comes together soon. Very soon, I hope sweatdrop I feel at the moment like I'm headed towards a 120k novel which is... awkward as my deadline is calculated using 100k. A less good day today. My period knocked me on my a** so I spent most of the afternoon in bed. Managed about 1.6k, which is about 800 words less than I need, but maybe I can pull that back tomorrow after work so it doesn't change next week's goals too much, idk.
