(( Oh! You mean like my Vidar? Okay, got it. wink Sorry about that. sweatdrop ))

Masha wings flapped wildly, powerfully as she tried to pull herself higher and higher into the air and farther from the flames. She was right behind Frenkhul as they flew away, and she noticed him looking over her shoulder. She frowned, her eyes filled with sadness. Then she looked over her shoulder as well. Her eyes then grew wide with horror. It was then that she spotted the winged serpents, flying about wildly as they tried to find a way out. Unsuccessfully. Masha could feel her heart sink and she knew that she couldn't just leave them. She called to Frenkhul, saying, "Go on ahead! I'll be right back!" Without a second though, she twisted herself around in the air and began plummating down back to earth, back to the roaring flames.

"Mahsa!" Frenkhul called, his eyes wide. He wheeled around and streaked back to her, knowing that she was trying to save the snakes. "Come on, we can get more if we both try!" Frenkhul shouted over the crackle and roar of the flames. Snatching up a few of the snakes, he released them into the air and made a u-turn back to gather up some more.

Mahsa didn't like the idea that Frenkhul was in danger, so close to the deadly flames, but there was no time to argue. She had to get into the woods and help the snakes. It was heard to get into the forest from the top, for the amount of smoke that tainted the air was nearly suffocating. But there was no way to go from the side.... a wall of fire blocked her. Despite the smoke, the top was the only way. She held her breath and squinted her eyes before dive-bombing into the fire. It was amazing how dark and merky the air had become from the thick smoke. She searched her way around, the intense heat making her dizzy. She avoided the flickers of light in the trees. Winged serpents were fluttering everywhere, just as blind as her. Swiftly, she snatched them in her paws, gently, simply because they were too histeric to listen to reason. She managed to grab a hold of four with her two paws and beak. Two more realized that she knew a way out and wrapped themselves around her neck despertly. Quickly, she took off into the air again, through the smoke and into fresh air again. She released the snakes and they flew away wildly, frantically, releaved to be free. Mahsa coughed slightly before peering back down through the wall of smoke. She felt her stomach churn when she realized there was still one, baby serpent left. Without thinking twice, she dove back down into the fire, the flames encroaching on her. She grabbed the baby as the flames came close to licking her feathers. Suddenly, a tree branch, alight with flames, broke off from the dying tree and came tumbling down to earth....

Frenkhul had just finished releasing his latest grab of the little serpents into the clean sky above them when he saw Mahsa dive back into the flames. What is she doing? She could get killed!

Then he saw the branch.

"MAHSA!" Frenkhul screeched, diving down as fast as he could. He hoped he wasn't too late, wasn't too late to get her out of the way....

And then, at that moment, he felt a burning, a scorching more intolerable than anything. He had smashed into the branch with a sickening crack, his front left forelimb going slack and bending at the wrong angle. The flames licked and burned, crackling with delight at their newest fuel. Frenkhul made a small noise before he was surrounded by flames.

Even then, if he might die in this very instant, he hoped and prayed to whatever gods that could be watching that he had gotten Mahsa out of the way in time.

Masha clung the young serpent closer to her, arching her neck and raising her wings to try and sheild them. Just then she heard a screech, which sounded so faint and far away amongst the crackling flames. But there was one crack far louder that the cracking flames. It was unnatural, a sickening crack. Just then, the branch landed on the earth with a thud some feet from her. Confused, Mahsa looked up to see what had diverted the branch's path.

Her eyes grew wide with fear as she spotted Frenkhul, his feathers burning in the flames. She squacked in terror and shot up into the smoggy air. She released the young serpent, nearly flinging it into the air of of harm's reach, where it was reunited with its family. In a frantic hurry, she dove back down to Frenkhul and grabbed onto his neck with her claws before he could fall to the ash covered earth. She could feel the pads of her feet burning, but she clung to him anyway. She flapped her wings vigourously, the gust chasing the embers away from his feathers.

But they were still trapped, for trees around them were still burning. She needed to get him out of here. Fast. She just hoped she'd be strong enough to carry him...
