Maximilian nodded. "I never did care much for aliens. I've got nothing against them, but sometimes they creep me out... long fingers and huge feet were never something I ever trusted." He said with a snicker, knowing that the Alistrani were quite lanky in comparison to humans. He turned towards the door, holstering his weapons and heading out into the base.

Almost as soon as he left the room, a growling sound filled the antiseptic-white hallway. "Huh... guess I'm hungry." Max mumbled, looking down at his stomach. Almost instantly, he felt the fatigue cramps setting in. Max quickened his pace, and rounded a corner, only to run right into a tall Alistrani officer. "Speak of the devil..." He said under his breath. The man looked down at him with an irritated frown, only to go around him and proceed forward with vigor. Max himself continued to walk until, by some intuition, he turned and asked, "Where are you headed?" The man turned and replied, "To lunch. Where are you headed?" He replied. "Same." Maximilian blurted as they both chuckled. The two began walking together, telling each other about themselves.

Maximilian turned to the three men, greeted them, and pushed open the doors. "Yeah, I got the job. In fact, I'm your new lieutenant." He said briskly, smiling with a meek expression. He had a feeling the reception wouldn't be so great, but then again, nothing ever was within the military. He hadn't even had to present any credentials; the fact that he showed up was a resume enough. And already, I'm the leader of four privates, Max thought with a somewhat satisfied attitude. The Alistrani merely listened and said nothing of his own rendition.

Maximilian shrugged. "I have no idea why he promoted me so quickly, though. Maybe the IEF is a little short-handed lately..." He said. Max returned the salute, dismissing Dave. "Actually, I misreported my rank... I'm just a sergeant. Just wanted to make you squirm a little." He said with a laugh.

"They looked like they could be a problem, but I doubt those Balrog things would be very tough if we could keep them out of the forested element." Maximilian muttered. He had heard the name mentioned once or twice in their discussion with Captain Vega, and adapted it as best as possible, like he knew what he was talking about. In all seriousness, the thought, I do not. The Alistrani turned to him and shook his head. "Not true. The Balrogs aren't the threat here. The Panevi have taken increased countermeasures against any advancements by the IEF. I don't believe that we will be encountering them any time soon... but to make things a bit clearer for you, if we do run into even one of the fiends, we will probably find ourselves at least wounded. They are faster and more technologically adept than us. Our only hope would be to keep a tab on all movements and to gain the element of surprise." He said with the usual Alistrani know-it-all naivete. Out of all the things he didn't like about their kind, which was very few, the fact that they always seemed to have good intentions was quite untrustworthy. Their input was appreciated, but not neccesary, and any time they spoke, they always acted mechanical and emotionless. He himself always wondered what was really going on inside of their heads. Max looked to the tall. "The Panevi aren't that tough. I've fought plenty. Sure, if they have a chip on their shoulder they can be annoying, but they aren't that big of a threat to me." He said with a skeptical look on his face.
