String theory is ruining physics. It's almost as bad as Plato was for mathematics.

Stupid ********. SCIENCE IS DYING AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, AMERICA!! I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL!!

What do you have against string theory.....
(And I'll take the version without swear words with a side of fries please! mrgreen and yes, that video is mehhhh)

Thirty years with nothing new, so much hype for so little output, everybody's all "String theory! String theory!" despite all of its fundamental flaws, first and foremost of which is the fact that it disregards General Relativity almost completely. It's not even science! It's pretending to be science, when it's no better than pseudo-science because it is untestable and will not be testable for a long time.

Replace thirty with four (five, seven, whatever), General Relativity with music theory, science with trance, pseudo- with euro-, and testable with tolerable and you've basically gotten Tiesto.

Isn't what every new theory is suggested to?
Look at evolution as an example, when it came out, every one was calling it heresy. No? If you don't advance new theories, nothing will be explored.
I'm not a science guy thought. I dab in it just by sheer curiosity.

Schizo: And little round "balls" floating around other little round "balls" is as absurd as vibrating strings if you look at it this way.....

Ah, but we have observed evolution. Furthermore, evolution isn't a blatant violation of Occam's Razor. Furthermore, evolution did not contradict accepted biological theory. Furthermore, evolution was arrived at through the scientific method.

There's a difference between heresy and pseudoscience. And string theory is not new. Thirty years is a long time, Linen. Thirty years of hype and research and the leeching of the best minds in physics and absolutely no evidence that is even the least bit conclusive. That might have worked in the 19th century, but 30 years in the Information Age is a long time.

Yeah I admit that you're right on this point. But still, it's something to dive into even to disprove it.
Anyway, I'm not a science guy, I'm a History/sociology buff! wink

It makes more sense for them to be 3 dimentional, condsidering this is the third dimension.

Actually, membrane theory is just as ridiculous as string theory.

Shall we agree that Standard Model and General Relativity are the proper theories?

I don't know. The Standard Model also has a lot of flaws, what with being horrendously ad hoc and all. I mean, yeah, it's the best approximation to date, so it should be regarded as the proper theory, and I do like it more than string theory, but still...

I guess my geometry leanings make me inherently biased toward GTR over QM and its children.

Mebbe it's the crazy "HOLY s**t MOTHER ********" mentality I'm in right now, but I'm thinking, when everyone goes to bed, I get my brother to drive me down to the Kingston airport (yeah, kingston has an airport, it's for little planes) and I hijack one of them little planes, fly down to MTL, and make it back in time before anyone notices...

MY BROTHER'S BEST FRIEND SINCE GRADE 7 NEARLY DIED LAST NIGHT

This ******** kid, omg, he was so upset he lost a game of fooseball to Brenden and Will that he smashed Brenden in the face/head with a bottle, then ran. Brenden was released from the hospital early this morning after more than 100 stitches and a transfusion or two because he lost over a litre of blood.

I just don't understand crying
How the ******** could someone do that to someone so sweet and nice over a GODDAMNED GAME OF ******** FOOSEBALL, this poor kid, he's only 19, and his face is gonna look like a pizza for the rest of his life

crying
