Nanako sat, and watched what was going on around her. She had all the fiath in Markus' ability to get the needed horses, but dreaded riding an unfamiliar animal, potentially in a chase, while still under the influence of her "calming drink".

The thought of it made her head spin, but the words uttered from Gwynne's mouth literally made her head hit the table. Cursing aloud, she couldn't quite decide what called for it the most. Gwynne's audacity or her foolish action which made her head feel as though she split it open.

Bloody place, bloody foolish girl, bloody light forsaken drink!

Grimacing, she decided it best to simply leave, and deal with things later. As they had just arrived, she simply picked up her bags and headed outside to where Markus and Nikoru had already mounted. Squinting and cursing against the brightness of the sun, she simply mounted the first horse she came upon in an uncharacteristicly gruff fashion. She was getting weary of the constant action this group seemed to attract, and simply wished for a uneventful period of a few days.

Hoisting her saddlebags around so it was more comfortable to get to what she needed, she let out a long sigh... hoping that the group would now mesh more kindly with one another.

Or light, I swear I'll knock my Old Friend from here to the blight if need me.

Seluth
"Allow me to gather my horse and my belongings. I will not be long."
Turning away from the others, Seluth turned to head back inside the inn. Opening the door again, he noticed that some of the others had left the common room. Upstairs, probably, readying their belongings. Noticing that Kai was still seated in the room, wooden sword beside him and a book in hand, he moved over to the youth.

"A matter of some urgency has just been brought to our attention outside. I'm afraid that I, and most likely Aorn as well, are going to have to leave the south at short notice. I'm going to gather my belongings."

With that, he left Kai and made his way up the stairs, rather more slowly than he would have liked. Once in his room, he set about changing his clothes, replacing the dressing on his wounded leg and packing his gear into his saddle bags.

He felt more comfortable in his blacks these days. They were a part of him, almost. Keeping his pins safely tucked away for now, Seluth pulled his black cloak back on, rolling up the one he had used for playing the part of a guard. Tugging the dark cloak closed over his blacks, the Asha'man slung his packed saddlebags over his shoulder, checked that he had everything and made his way back downstairs again.

Now he just had to ready the bay. After several days cooped up in a stable with no exercise, he almost dreaded to think how excitable and jumpy the highly strung stallion would be. This would be ...interesting.

((kai's bokken is not his wooden swords. I took the name and applied it to his special sword...remember the technique is called Tebokken which in my version means hand and sword. Just so you guys know, though he does have practice swords of wood.))
::Kai looked up at Seluth and nearly sighed with relief. He gathered his packed belongings and headed out, catching Seluth coming down the stairs again and followed him out to the stables.::
Where are we headed?
::Having been told of them moving, and with anticipation of leaving this blasted city behind, Kai naturally assumed that he would be accompanying Seluth and Aorn. Kai shruddered to think how close danger was coming. It irked him that they were taking this long to pinpoint their location, but Kai never looked a gift horse in the mouth...he disliked horses altogether.::

(( Edited my last one to fix that ))

Seluth walked the length of the stables, finding the stall that his horse had been stabled in. Setting down his saddlebags, he moved up to the horse's head, letting the animal know that he was there. He didn't particularly want to be kicked right now. Turning to Kai, he spoke quietly.

"Trouble in the Borderlands. A comrade has asked that Aorn and I move to assist them." He gave the youth a meaningful look as he spoke the word 'comrade', before moving to find the bay's tack. Finding the saddle that he vaguely remembered as having belonged to the horse, he began tacking up. He could have asked a stableboy to see to it, but he'd rather make as little commotion as possible.

The Asha'man hoped that Kai had picked up on the hint. He wasn't about to spell it out loud, not here, but neither did he want the youth kicking up a fuss about channelers. Since his intentions seemed to be to come along.
Buckling on his saddlebags, and tightening the saddle's girth, the Arafellin took the bridle and began to back the highly strung horse out. The stallion danced a little, tossing his head.

"Watch this one. He jumps more than a rabbit does." Seluth grunted faintly. He hadn't even given the horse a name yet. On the rushed journey down to Illian, it had just been 'the bay'. He'd intended on trading the horse for another more suited to battle, but time had run out on him. It had run out on all of them.

The dull thud of Nanako's head on the table made Gwynne stare at her friend. Burn me, that is why I never get drunk. If not for the utterly miserable cast of Nanako's features, Gwynne would have laughed. Instead, she wanted to cry. It was almost a relief to see Nanako leave the room. Her eyes went back to the improbable man who had reacted so impossibly to the Dark One's name. "The Forsaken were sealed in Shayol Ghul. Lews Therin was victorious." These statements were a guess; it was obvious that even if this man was what he seemed, he did not remember what that was. She glanced at the doorway, worried for Nanako. "If you come with me, maybe we can find out more of who you are." I am mad. Inviting a man who must be able to channel to travel with me... Confused by her actions, but unwilling to question herself too deeply for fear of the answers she'd find, Gwynne followed after Nanako.

Darz

PostPosted: Tue Nov 16, 2004 3:27 pm

Even if Darz were not amnesiac, he wouldn't recollect the events Gwynne just related. They occured some time after his departure from the Age of Legends. In the present, however, his amnesiac state seems oddly selective. He's forgotten more about himself than of history and skills. Darz looks to the stairs and decides to take her advice. He feels vital importance in rediscovering himself. He answers her hidden question as he walks down the stairs.

I'm sorry... I don't recall that. I was...I was on a mission...

Even to Darz, that statement came from out of nowhere. What was his mission? How did he know Lews Therin? How did he hear of the Shayol Ghul? He knows he could never have named any of them on his own...without stimulation. That had to be it! Darz wonders if, maybe...just maybe, stimulating his brain enough might bring his memories flooding back. Darz notices Gywnne leave the room. He thinks on following her for a moment, but, feeling the need to have his memories back, he does come to the quick decision to follow. Darz does so while keeping his distance, but he does have one more thing to add.

Please... What else can you tell me? I feel as if I've learnt more of myself in just our talking.

Please... What else can you tell me? I feel as if I've learnt more of myself in just our talking.

Gwynne stopped in her tracks, half-turning at Darz's words. 'More of myself just in our talking?' All I've said are a few things I remember out of old books and common knowledge. Doesn't he remember anything at all? No one could fake that dialect... But the potential knowledge this man represented, if he was what he seemed, was too much for her to pass up. "If you travel with us, we can talk." Two thoughts occurred to her then, each more frightening than the other. "But under two conditions: don't tell the others about anything we say - " If the Aes Sedai realize what he is, I'll never learn anything from him - "and don't channel near me." A man who channels... I'm as mad as the false Dragons, she thought again. "And... what is your name?" No... I'm as mad as Kinslayer himself...

It had occurred to Gwynne that there were some ways Darz's oddities could be faked. He could have read the book of dialects before she had come upon it and be faking amnesia. He could even be one of the Forsaken, who would certainly know exactly how to play the role and how to disguise thsemlves. But such deceptions fell under a heading of 'Why?' What advantage would the Darkfriends, or even an ordinary man, gain from this? It did not, however, occur to her that she might have her own deeper motives for being willing to speak with him, and for keeping knowledge of his nature away from the Aes Sedai.

The borderlands?
::Tarma grew up there. He had heard legends and knew its people survived harsh conditions including trolloc attacks::
But that mean snow, and horses, and how long is it going to take anyway? We are all the way down here in the south and we have to trav...
::Kai relised what that looked had meant now. His face contorted in a look of disgust.:: Oh no! More of those?
::He slumped back against the wall and sulked a bit.::
Well anywhere is better than here. I'm surprised no one has picked up on a missing suldam, a whole troop of missing guards and a cha...one of 'those' people doing their thing around here.
::Then another detail dawned on Kai. He scrambled up against the wall looking at Seluth.:: You? One of Aorn AND your comrades? That means your one of them!
::Kai's last comment came out in a low growl.::
Oh bloody light-forsaken luck! Is there anyone here who can't do that other than me.
::This whole bloody troop was made of those witch-things...these channelers. He poked the empty space in his mind that used to be inhabited by the comforting twirl of his crescent and almost sighed. Once out of this city, Selene's ban on wearing it would be lifted. At least he would be able to fight when they get to the borderlands. Perhaps train some more with Tarma...::

Channeling? Had Darz known anything of that? Does he even realize what it is? He asks himself these questions as he maintains some distance. He can sense something...different about her. He can't place it, and it certainly isn't familiar. Gwynne, however, has, and may well will, proven herself a valuable source of information. He finds himself willing to agree to the first condition...but the second is one he's not even sure is necessary.

I agree to your conditions.

Darz finds it odd, but the first two he has found that he trusts are two female warriors. Tarma and Gwynne have gained his trust -- though they may not know it...and for very different reasons. Darz nods as he hears her second question, and he leans upon the hilt and sheath of his blade almost as if for support.

I'm...not sure. People...call...or called me Darz.

Darz still has no idea where this "name" came from, but he is, sometimes, reminded of "illusions" or something similar. Were those channelings? Are those related to who he might be? Darz's sure that traveling with Gwynne and others will aid him in regaining his memories. He's also hopeful, somewhat surprising himself, that Tarma comes along. He can't identify why, but, perhaps, it is because she did awaken a memory...his first visual one. However, when he looks upon Gywnne's face, Darz is a bit surprised to find something he hadn't noticed before. Though he can barely tell, he is able to read her expression.

Umm... May I ask what it is...that troubles you? Was it I?

Aorn

PostPosted: Tue Nov 16, 2004 8:01 pm

Throughout the entirety of the situation, Aorn had simply sat and absorbed. His admiration of Markus however, noticeably increased as the man quickly took hold of the situation. Then, the room went to chaos as people began moving in each direction.

Then, as if from nowhere, there was a man on his arm that was Asha'man. Familiar, yet not so, he sensed kindred in the man that came from all men who could channel since Saidin had been cleansed.

Listening dutifully, Aorn accepted the orders of the man with a nod, and took two steps with his limp, then realised he was among friends. Casting the expensive silk robe over his head, he strode across the room like a man possessed. Glad to finally be free of the facade, Aorn didn't care that he strode across the inn in little more then an undershirt and breeches. Striding upstairs, he quickly dressed, the black lining of his clothes feeling good against his cool skin. Undoiing the braids on the front of his hair, his hair spun down uncharactaristically in his eyes, his teal eye shone like a beacon behind the veil imparted.

Attaching his pins to his teal doved cloak, Aorn inverted the collar. No need to cause problems yet... Aorn smiled slightly to himself. Sending out a feeling of warmth to Kurai, he adjusted his eyepatch and buckled up his sandals. Striding back downstairs, Aorn took one last glance at the chaos and approached his friends.

"Markus," he said slowly, his voice tense. "You have your path in life, and I have mine. We have both changed much since that night we met so long ago, when we battled a darkhound with Nikoru-Sedai's help." Aorn grinned, hoping his friend would not be too put off with their leaving. "However, it seems that our roads are not meant to be parallel, at least not currently. Seluth and I have recieved word of a falling outpost near the blight and it's border. We will go to assist. Kai is coming with us, and any more who you think you can spare. I know you have your own road to follow, and I wish you the best. May our roads cross more in the future." With that, Aorn nodded briskly, taking his leave of his ally and friend. Turning quickly, Aorn winked with his one good eye.

"You seem to have a volatile lot of females around you my friend. Keep yourself safe from the shadow and them."
Nodding apologies to the Seanchen woman who he had not been formally introduced to, Aorn grinned. "Maybe next time our visit will be longer friend warrior," Aorn almost shouted over the din. "But have them tell you the stories of our travels over the campfire at night. I'm really not as bad as they'll make me out to be."

Turning, as he was striding out the door he saw many people that he knew were going to be going in seperate ways. Some, he may never see again. Sighing inwardly, he strode over to the girl that was referred to as Gwynne, who was deep in conversation with Darz.

"They call you Gwynne." Aorn let the statement hang in the air for a moment, then extended his arm. "I am Aorn. I don't know what you've learned of our group, but we are all of quite interesting skills. You are a welcome addition in my mind, as long as you don't go around killing people. Be welcome and know that the people here will accept you for who you are, and not what you have been. You are blessed with both a gift and people who will teach you to use it for the world of good." Aorn leaned across the table and smiled at Gwynne, hoping the next statement wouldn't make her fly into a murderous rage. "I don't know what you have learned, but if you believe me, Saidin has been cleansed. I am Asha'man, and a follower to the Dragon. I will stand for the light until I fall, and no madness fogs my vision. Many of our group can channel, and many can help you learn more. Just because you have been alone in the past doesn't mean you're alone anymore friend Gwynne." With that, Aorn stood and strode away, his black cloak with teal doves fluttering in the breeze behind him.

Striding outside, Aorn nodded to Seluth and the other Asha'man. Seeing Nanako atop a horse and in fits, he quickly prepared Cloud and rode up next to her.
"You've lost a friend I see Nanako," he said knowing that the girl missed her horse by the look on her face. "And this one," he motioned to the horse under her. "Isn't used to rough work."
Sidling up to her side, he leaned close enough so that she could hear him totally. "I have know idea what happened in Tanchico, and frankly, it's probably best if you put it behind you. Gwynne is a fiesty one, and you are her calm half. Be strong, and she will follow by example. You will learn, and you will be great."

Jumping off of Cloud, Aorn unhooked his staff sheath and offered the reins to Nanako. "Here. He's no Aldo, but he'll see you safe, and I won't need him as much where I'm going. Just you take care of each other alright? That way, next time we meet, I can be happy about seeing you both." Not waiting for a word in response, he left her speechless with Clouds reins. Clucking softly, he whispered soft words in the horse's ear and heard the horse sniff and snort. Then Aorn patted the gelding on the nose, and turned to where the Asha'man was waiting.

Seluth, Kai and the Asha'man stood still, Seluth still working with the reins of his new horse. With his saddlebags over his shoulder, Aorn grinned as Kurai and Captain Addin broke out of the house with their things.

"Nice of you to join us," Aorn said with a smile and a warm feeling for his bonded. "We're about to leave. Care to accompany us?" Turning back to the Asha'man that was simply a messenger, Aorn nodded a second time. "We're ready."
PostPosted: Tue Nov 16, 2004 9:03 pm

::Kai looked up at Aorn, happy to be moving again. He reached into his pouch and pulled out the jewel, holding it in a closed fist. Standing between Seluth and Aorn he nodded in confirmation of Aorn's "We're ready"...ready as we'll ever be he added mentally.::
Lets go hunt us some Shadow-spawn.

::Then another detail dawned on Kai. He scrambled up against the wall looking at Seluth.:: You? One of Aorn AND your comrades? That means your one of them!
::Kai's last comment came out in a low growl.::

Seluth gave Kai a long look before he nodded. He had not realised that the youth had not known about him. But then, it made sense. He had only caught up to the group just before Illian, and he had been unwilling to channel while in the city.

"I am what I am," he replied simply. "And I do what I have to do. Just as we all do." With that, the borderlander began to lead the skittish horse outside, the familiar jingling accompanying his movements as always.

Moving over to the other two Asha'man, the Arafellin gave them a nod. He was ready also.

Jazral eye Selene oddly, knowing full well she was holding something back. "What is it Selly?" A look of convern came across His face as he sat there in the grass . He watched Selene idoly pick a small flower from the grass and fidget with it. He eyed her sternly "Selene you know you can tell me anything, "
"I know I can." Selene sat with her legs pulled up close to her body and her feet tucked up underneath her on one side. "Nothing bad happened to me, I just had a bit of fun as an Illuminator. It's truly amazing what a woman can get away with if she has a different title."

Now she grinned broadly, thoroughly amused by the thoughts dancing through her mind. Keeping her eyes on the flower she mused to herself, 'So much more fun being an Illuminator some days and not a prim Aes Sedai...' smiling more she decided to keep her thoughts to herself for a bit longer.

Looking up at Jazral she asked, "So, what have you been doing while I wasn't looking?" She had blatantly and intentionally meant to change the subject to further frustrate him, their bond told her he wanted an answer. A straight answer and not a cryptic Aes Sedai answer that could mean 20 million different things.

They took all night, but they finaly found it, not long after sunrise. This is another one of the many reasons we're no longer safe in Illian, riders were dispatched shortly after we left, the lord of the manor may have been alerted to our actions there. The man's name meant nothing to Gwynne. But his question surprised her. "I am always troubled... Darz. You'll learn that if you travel with me." She tried to complete her exit of the room, but Aorn reached her first.
Aorn
Turning, as he was striding out the door he saw many people that he knew were going to be going in seperate ways. Some, he may never see again. Sighing inwardly, he strode over to the girl that was referred to as Gwynne, who was deep in conversation with Darz.

"They call you Gwynne." Aorn let the statement hang in the air for a moment, then extended his arm. "I am Aorn. Just because you have been alone in the past doesn't mean you're alone anymore friend Gwynne." With that, Aorn stood and strode away, his black cloak with teal doves fluttering in the breeze behind him.

(OOC: For the record, both "deep in conversation" and "leaned across the table" are discontiguous with current reality, but for the sake of simplicity and saving time I'm replying as if Aorn wrote it as "speaking" and "took a step closer".)
The black-cloaked man's words shook Gwynne as if the Dark One himself had a grip upon her. A self-admitted male channeler, one of the Black Tower, an Asha'man, proclaiming loyalty to the Lord Dragon and claiming an impossibility of the Power. But there was that... thing...

Like every other channeler on the continent, Gwynne had felt the impossible, hours-long surge of the Power that had marked the Dragon Reborn's cleansing of the male half of the Source. And like most of those channelers, she had found no explanation for it. Now a potential explanation was coming forward in her mind. It had, after all, felt as if all of saidar had been drawn to that insane column in the sky. Why not all of saidin as well?

Could saidin really be clean, after 3000 years? she wondered. That would mean... She spun to stare at Darz again. Feeling faint, she sagged against the wall, belief forcing itself upon her. He is... He's... Light, he... She fell to her knees. "Da'es shan," she whispered, her tone one of deepest respect, the inflections on the title indicating that she thought herself an ant beside him. "We share a common goal, the triumph of the Lord of the Morning. Under the Light, I will do all I can to help you." Her eyes no longer seemed to have much mind behind them, only shock and fear. Under the Light and upon my hope of salvation and rebirth, I pledge myself forever to the Light and shall never walk in the Shadow. If I put myself before one of the Dark One's servants, let it be known to the Light that I follow the Light even should the Shadow triumph... Her thoughts repeated themselves over and over, her only ward against the terror she had just committed herself to. saidar dwindled to nothing in her senses.

For Gwynne, it was nearly too much. First she had acted in that childish way towards the Aes Sedai, making enemies she did not want. Then she had nearly prostrated herself before them. Now she was willing to take the word of two male channelers that they stood with the Lord Dragon and that no male channeler was any longer a great danger. Much of her fear was of what she would do next, and this was much of the reason for her repeated pleas to the Light. Never in her life had it occurred to Gwynne to turn towards the Shadow; she would sooner have walked into Shadar Logoth alone in pitch darkness. That this Darz might really be what he seemed made her aware of possibilities stretching into the infinite; that she was willing to take the risk of accepting him froze her soul. All that kept her going was the certainty that should she be wrong and die, the Wheel would spin her out into the Pattern again in another life, and that she would never, could never, turn to the Shadow.
