Interesting Fact: Shelgon is known as the Endurance Pokémon for two reasons: it sits inside its shell dreaming of growing wings and becoming a beautiful dragon, and it has a high defense to withstand powerful attacks

Shellgon's name is a combination of "shell" and "dragon". Its Japanese comes from the verb "komoru" (篭る), meaning "to seclude oneself" or "to stay cooped up".
Pokedex Entry: Within Shelgon's body, its cells are continually changing to prepare for evolution into Salamence. Even though this Pokémon's shell is heavy, it makes up for it by drawing in its stubby legs and rolling around. This shell is very thick and strong, similar to bones. The shell protects disruption of its internal cell development. When it is finally ready for evolution, its shell sheds almost instantly.

While in this stage of its evolution, Shelgon fasts in order to grow hardier from hunger. It grows tired easily due to its lack of food and its heavy shell weighing it down.

Interesting Fact: Beldum, just like Magikarp, is a Pokémon with a pre-specified set of moves - in this case, Take Down. Also just like Magikarp, at level 20 it evolves into a form capable of learning a normal amount of moves. Beldum is one of the few non-legendary genderless Pokémon.

Beldum's English and Japanese names are both derived from "dumbbell", a small weight used in weight training.
Pokedex Entry: This Pokémon lacks a circulatory system of blood. Instead, it is powered by a strong magnetic force. It can exert magnetic forces from its body in order to communicate with others of its species. It can repel Earth's natural magnetism with its own, hence allowing it to levitate.

Beldum appears to be a floating arm with claws. This is no surprise; as 2 Beldum form together to create a Metang, each Beldum accounts for one of Metang's arms. Beldum live on cliffs by planting their leg into the cliff-rock.

Beldum move together in a synchronized pattern, attracted by the magnetism of one another. They communicate with not only magnetism but also brain waves.

Its small red eye can rotate at any angle, allowing it to observe its surroundings easier. These eyes become the shoulder-joints of Metang when it evolves.

Scientists studying Beldum's evolution have created many questions about the strange evolution habit when two Beldum come in contact. For example how does Beldum form the metallic body of Metang? Do two Beldum's mind and spirit join together into one sole being when they evolve? Does the evolution of Beldum result in the coming of a new life? Beldum have also been seen to evolve by not fusing, leaving all memory fresh and intact.

Interesting Fact: Metagross' name is a combination of metal and gross, as in corpulent and dense, because of its large size. The gross may also be derived from a mispronunciation of cross, in reference to the mark on its face, or the term "gross weight", because of Metagross' heavy weight from being made of solid steel.
Pokedex Entry: Metagross has the appearance of a tremendous, quadrupedal tank-like Pokémon. Its turquoise-coloured, discus-shaped main body appears to be its head, as it lies at the center point where its legs branch out to give the impression of a mechanized arachnid. Each leg could be viewed as the body of a former Beldum, and its head/body the four collective heads of Beldum used to fuse into it. Metagross has a metallic cross adorning its face diagonally between its two red eyes, often viewed as the letter "X" by onlookers, and this cross-shape is arranged to resemble both metallic "eyebrows" and a metallic "mustache." This is said to represent Metagross' wise, computative nature.

In the same way that its pre-evolved form Metang is comprised by two Beldum, a still more basic evolution stage, so is Metagross formed by the joining of two Metang. This essentially means that four Beldum make up a Metagross (this could be compared to Magneton or Jibacoil, both of which are comprised of 3 Magnemite). However, four Beldum come nowhere near to the size of a Metagross.

Metagross's intelligence is extraordinarily high: not only does it have four brains (one from each Beldum) but they are also connected by a highly complex neural network, which is nowadays a more accurate measure of the capacity for intelligence than the net amount of brain tissue. Thanks to its developed cerebral powers, which are said to surpass even those of a supercomputer (similar to Alakazam), Metagross can use psychic abilities, including the ability to render its massive body airborne by telekinesis once it draws its legs together.

Metagross live in mountainous areas. They can easily live comfortably on very steep slopes by planting their legs into rock or ground.

Interesting Fact: The name Regice originates from the words Regis, the Latin word for royal or king, and ice. This means its name is Ice King or King of Ice.
Pokedex Entry: Regice looks like a robot consisting entirely of ice. It has a crystalline structure, with an obelisk-shaped, multi-faceted main body, two legs ending on a point, two arms, and icicles protruding from its back. Instead of a face, Regice has a Braille-like pattern of seven yellow dots forming a symmetric horizontal cross.

According to the Pokédex, the body of Regice was made during an ice age, which makes Regice a very ancient Pokémon indeed. It seems that the substance Regice is made up of is ice similar to the kind found on Antarctica, the coldest region of the planet.

Regice envelops its icy body with intensely cold air whose temperature is -200 degrees Celsius (-328 degrees Fahrenheit). The absolute zero, the lowest limit of temperature according to modern physics, is -273.15 degrees Celsius (-459.67 degrees Fahrenheit). Regice seems to have control over this frigid air current.

Because of the cold atmosphere perpetually enveloping Regice, anyone even approaching it will freeze solid. Regice will not melt even if it is immersed in magma or exposed to the hottest flames.

Rather than walk, Regice hovers a few inches off of the ground. This may be because the feet of Regice are much smaller than those of the other two Regis.

According to in-game information, an ancient people sealed away Regice along with Regirock and Registeel inside caves which they had used to inhabit because they feared the three Pokémon, to which they nevertheless felt indebted.

Interesting Fact: Latias is one of the two Legendary Pokémon to be found at the end of the players adventure in Pokémon Sapphire (and possible Emerald) and she is the one of the only four Legendary Pokémon to have a gender. The other three are her brother, Latios, and the Sinnoh Legendaries, Hydoran and Crescelia.

Latias' name might have been derived from the Latin word" 'latere' (as in latent), which means 'to lie hidden', 'to be invisible'. The "a" in her name may also be a nod to her gender, just as "a" is often used in the feminine versions of some Spanish language terms.
Pokedex Entry: Latias is a red-and-white dragon/bird like creature with small arms and feet, and spiky wings on its back. Though it appears to have white flesh underneath the red carapace, it is actually covered with loads of very small feathers made to look smooth by a glass-like coat of shiny down. It has a triangle-shaped blue marking on its belly that is similar of a Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss marking. It is able to alter its appearance with this coat by enfolding its body with its down and refracting light in unique ways. With this it can seemingly transform into a human, or render itself invisible like a chameleon (compare with Kecleon).

Latias is highly sensitive to the emotions of people and can telepathically communicate with people. If it senses any hostility, this Pokémon ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe. It therefore rarely makes contact with people or other Pokémon. They often disappear if they sense enemies or people with the hostilities as described above.

Latias, though rare, is not a one-of-a-kind Pokémon like most other Legendary Pokémon. They have been occasionally sighted in small herds of several members.

Likewise, it is not excluded from competitive play like the Battle Frontier (Same applies to Regirock, Regice, and Registeel).

Interesting Fact: Kyogre (カイオーガ, Kaiōga?) is a mythical creature from the Pokémon franchise. It is one of a trio of legendary Pokémon, alongside Groudon and Rayquaza. In the legend surrounding the three, Kyogre is the Pokémon of the ocean, along with Groudon as the Pokémon of the land and Rayquaza as the Pokémon of the sky. Kyogre appears on the cover of Pokémon Sapphire.

"Kyogre" is a Romanization of the original Japanese name Kaiōga, meaning "Ocean-Orca". The "orca" was changed by the translators to "ogre". Its English name is commonly pronounced "Kai-OH-guhr."

The nefarious Team Aqua seek Kyogre in both the video games and anime. Kyogre is a gentle and benevolent Pokémon and does not anger easily. It has been known as a savior to people in ancient times suffering from droughts.
Pokedex Entry: Physically, Kyogre is orca-like, with large fins that resemble wings and a stylized bird-like tail instead of typical flukes. Along with most legendary pokémon, it is genderless. Kyogre represents the primal force of the oceans; as such it has the power to bring forth storms, constant rain, and massive floods. It is part of the creation myth of the Pokémon world. According to legend, a titanic battle between it and Groudon created the oceans and the land, and the two were sealed beneath their respective elements.

Kyogre and Groudon have a relationship similar to the Leviathan and Behemoth in Jewish mythology. In Jewish mythology, Leviathan is the primal unstoppable monster of the oceans, just as Behemoth is the primal unconquerable monster of the land. Rayquaza is also based on Ziz, another creature of Jewish mythology, as according to one Jewish myth the meat of the three creatures is to be served at the banquet at the End Times. Their appearances, however, are quite different from the traditional depictions of the creatures from Jewish myth.

Interesting Fact: It is the third of a trio of legendary Pokémon known by fans as the Trinity, alongside Kyogre and Groudon, and it represents the Pokémon Emerald game, for it is featured on the game's cover art. As Kyogre's role in the Trinity is to be the Pokémon of the sea, and Groudon's role is the Pokémon of the land, it is safe to assume that Rayquaza is the Pokémon of the sky.

Rayquaza's name is a derivation of the words ray and quasar, the former of which make sense as Rayquaza lives under the influence of solar phenomena such as the rays of the Sun. The derivation from the word quasar is likely either a misunderstanding of what a quasar really is, or giving the idea of a cosmic origin. It would appear if Groudon and Kyogre were ever to start fighting, it would break up the feud in order to maintain the balance of nature.

Rayquaza is based on the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl and the Ziz. Rayquaza looks like a giant emerald green snake/imperial dragon with shiny arms, no legs, black eyes, four horns on its head, black markings on its body, a pair of rudder-like wings and spines on its tail which ends in a fishlike point. Some have likened it's resemblance to that of a contorted missile, which would lend to the aerial theme of the Pokemon.
Pokedex Entry: Rayquaza resides within the ozone layer of the earth and has lived up there for hundreds of millions of years without ever coming down. To those who have glimpsed and observed it from the surface of the planet, it has always appeared to be a zooming meteor. Rayquaza feeds on water and particles in the earth's atmosphere. Due to its extreme age and living conditions under the rays of the Sun, Rayquaza has been tempered to wield incredible power. This power is said to be equal, if not stronger than that of Mew and even the legendary Mewtwo, Lugia, and Ho-oh. It is capable of calming any disturbance in nature, be it a storm or drought, and is said to descend from the ozone layer if Groudon or Kyogre were to fight, hence its ability Air Lock which stops any weather effects (The ability was changed to Cacophony in the new Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games, though the effect remains the same). It's attacks are extremely powerful, being able to unleash the most destructive Hyper Beam attack ever recorded in the Pokemon world. Also, it showed the capability to use an extremely powerful Ice Beam attack, being able to freeze everything in it's path. It is believed that Rayquaza can use nearly any Pokemon attack, it's most frequent attacks being Hyper Beam, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Extreme Speed. Being one of the fastest Pokemon in existence and having this incredible power makes it nearly invincible. Rayquaza's defense is also incredible, being able to withstand relentless assults of any pokemon attack to hit it. With these traits and it's high amount of endurance, Rayquaza is easily one of the most powerful pokemon on existance. The only Pokemon that was ever recorded to actually over power Rayquaza was Deoxys.
