"Good. as for the leak...see if you can find it. I wouldn't be surprised if one of these two or Semara was involved. As for what he did this time, he was given a fledge to teach to hunt, was overly abusive i think, and the fledge bolted. since his a** was grass if he came back without him..he savedhim for the blackroses when Calin crossed the border. at the expense of harming my daughter. so I threw them both in that special room, and am watching."

A grin and a gesture for Marx to come look at the monitor.

"Xearus can't afford to kill Calin, as he's taken responsibility for him. and they'll be straved for two days, and the long walls are layered with silver. the roof opens to admit sunlight enough to force them agasint the wall. the silver up by the ceiling is thicker..and wil heat and drip. so they are going to suffer for the next two days."

The idea of torture never did please Marx. Swift and painless was usually what death meant for him and seeing others suffer like that made him uneasy. A compassionate vampire, who knew? he thought to himself. But adding toward punishment wasn't torture at all. He must tell Lord Adrik about his suspicions, but the last time he talked with Xearus, every single accusation he had made was thwarted by a clear logical answer. Still the gut feeling was dominant.

"Lord Adrik, I must bring up something that has been in my mind. Has the thought of betrayal in one of your servants ever risen in your thoughts? What I mean to say, my Lord, is that I have had an uneasy feeling ever since I met Master Xearus. His presence just stinks of brooding and backstabbing." He felt as if he was going nowhere, as if he was rambling on. The the talk with Xearus had shooken his confidence in his own case but his habit of following his instinct always prevailed.

"I would not put it past Xearus to try and betray me. But he has no choice but to be loyal. his age makes him a living breakage of teh informal rules of our kind. and while Lynx...despite my knowledge..is portrayed as a rather...benevolent leader as if I wasn't. Even he wouldn't allow one like Xearus to live. He may despise me, but he knows his survival is because I allow it."

A look a Marx.

"But I would wonder about why you came to this conclusion, other than the obvious displays you witnessed between us. After all I would hate to think that he's actually a traitor."

That last comment just dripping with sarcasm. as if Xearus was proven traitor, it woudl give him a reason to throw that at his maker, and either throw them out or have them destroyed as well. after all, the fledgling had to learn from someone, didn't he.

Marx frowned, "Not to be informa Lord Adrik, but it is just a gut feeling." He took a moment to recollect what really did lead him to this conclusion. "The night where you had ordered me to find him, he said he had found the fledging already ashes on Blackrose territory. Even with his vampiric speed it seemed unlikely that he'd find the pile so quickly and it must've been pure luck to have noticed the pile on the other side of Blackrose." He listened to his own words and found them saturated with paranoia.

"I'm sorry my Lord, this is only a gut feeling that I had. And I am doing my duty to report anything... suspicious that I might see." Marx suddenly felt nervous... no not nervous, anxious to see what Lord Adrik's reaction would be.

Darvien was quiet a moment, before nodding lightly.

"I see what you mean. I'll have to keep a closer eye on him. and if you want, feel free to question Semara. those two are thick as thieves."

The video monitor sank back into the desk, and Darvien got up, and moved to teh other side of the desk, pulling out a drawer and taking out a set of keys, tossing it to Marx.

"That will get you one of the cars in the garage, and give you access to one of the bloodbanks. I know you prefer cold blood, so there's an easy supply for you, for your attention to details and your loyalty in telling me what you felt about young looking friend."
PostPosted: Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:20 am

Marx gracefully caught the keys and quickly put them into his pocket without looking at them. He bowed deeply and said, "Thank you very much Lord Adrik. It is always a pleasure to work with you." He stood upright and took a quick look at his watch. There wasn't much time left. He had to get ready for an interrogation in a couple of hours.

"If you'll excuse me Lord Adrik, there is another matter I must attend to. Thank you again for having faith in a low servant as I." He bowed again and walked out into the hallway. He took the keys from his pocket and looked at it. A car? What use do I have with a car? He shrugged the thought of and went into his office.

It took all of his self control to lay off of Calin. He wanted to beat him into those silver panels till he couldn't stand it anymore. He wanted to just beat Calin until every bone was broken then chuck him into the sun. But Xearus didn't touch the young fledgling.

Both had survived. If one clearly defined survival. Calin has survived Xearus' wrath, his first taste of silver, and even his first day of sun. He barely survived his first night with no blood. Xearus himself had experienced the whole starving thing, but Calin took it harder than he ever did.

And Xearus was just becoming an a** from not feeding, the dripping of silver and the burns it caused were further annoyance to him and he would cringe every time one would hit, but didn't move from the corner he had planted himself in. Xearus hadn't slept either. He found it hard to concentrate as he wasn't feeding. Other vampires needed one full adult to sustain a night...Xearus needed an adult and a half usually, sometimes two. Starving one day was like two for Xearus. His eyes were taking on a lethal feral look.

But now, dusk was coming around again and the sun was falling. This meant several things. One, the damn silver would cool...and not incessantly drip on the pair. He had his coat off, folded up and was sitting on it as a few latter drips of silver dropped to his hair and shoulder, sizzling as they leaked through clothes and hair.

Those feral looking eyes turned to the corner across from him. To the half asleep, starved, pained fledgling across from him. "Calin...wake up..."

Calin wanted to die. He was hungry, tired, there were parts of him that were sizzling every time silver droplets hit him. He wanted to beat something up but he was too tired. His eyes kept closing on him and he just wanted to sleep. When the irritated voice from across the room came to him he hissed and growled, "I'm...trying..." Taking a deep breath he hissed again when another drop hit his shoulder. "This is ******** insane! When are we getting out of this ******** place!" His fists clenched and he slammed one into the floor. Looking up at the lightening sky he closed his eyes, "Sun'll set soon and we'll get some peace..." But he knew they wouldn't. He was so hungry he was ready to fight Xearus. Either Xearus would kill him and his hunger would be gone or he'd kill Xearus and feed himself. Either way it would be gone...

"Oh shut the hell up, don't be such a fledgling." He was more than irritable. He was also wary of Calin. Fledges, when hungry enough would go after anything. Xearus at the start of this had hoped that a bird would flutter to close to the open so he could snatch it and shove it down Calin's throat. Bird blood, not appetizing, but blood none the least.

"Might as well settle in...no telling when Darvien will be letting us out. Depends on how long he uses us for giggles. Another drip of silver, landing on his exposed hand that was resting on a propped knee. Xearus didn't even blink at it, didn't even seem to care about it anymore. Just another burn to add to the others. But he sighed. "How you holding up Calin?" But he didn't make eye contact with the younger vampire. Feral look in his eyes might send the other over the edge.

Chest heaving, fists clenched, eyes going wild, his tongue licking his lips repeatedly, Calin was not happy. "How the hell do you think I'm doing? I'm locked in a ******** torture chamber with another vampire. My head is burning with every drip of ******** silver AND I'm ******** hungry. How are you doing Xearus?" Calin sighed deeply and laid his head back against the wall, eyes closed. The panel above him was still dripping but there was nowhere else to go. "I'm sorry Xearus...really...I just..." Then he shook his head, his fatigue overtaking the momentary burst of anger. He just wanted out. "Damn a*****e! Open the ******** door!" he screamed out. He didn't really care if Darvien heard or not, he was so tired of this.

Xearus shook his head slowly. It was a rather pitiful sight. Like watching someone set ants on fire because they had nothing better to do than blink the things out of existance. "Calin...Calin calm down!" He hissed himself, running his tounge over his fangs before picking at them. "Yelling is only to give us both headaches...not going to help a thing, only serve in giving Darvien his giggles.

With a high and immense effort, Xearus stood and staggered over to Calin, keeping again the still partially liquid silver walls. Hurt like a b***h, but the sun wasn't completely down, and even a little sun hurt worse than silver. He crouched next to Calin, gripping a hand on his shoulder to gain his attention.

"If you're that hungry..." He grabbed Calin's wrist and presed it up to the fledlings own fangs. "Then drink your own blood. It may not fill you, but it will at least trick your mind into thinking your feeding..."

Calin watched Xearus warily. The older vampire was moving and Calin was feeling that his time had finally come. It wouldn't take him long to kill him...hopefully he was so tired that he woudl just do it quick and clean and not make him suffer. But then taht wasn't what Calin would have done. He had to commend Xearus, though he had been a vampire longer so maybe he could hold on longer. He didn't know. Then Xearus grabbed his wrist and Calin knew this was the end...but it wasn't. Instead he watched Xearus for a moment and then sank his fangs into his own skin, greedily sucking the blood. Slurping and sucking, he got as much as he could. The sweet feel of blood gliding down his throat was enough to make him moan.

The mind of a fledgling was so easy to fool...and in some cases it was too easy to fool. Like now. One taste of blood, even his own and Calin was already in a happier place. How own personal false heaven. Xearus still had a hand clamped to the younger vampire's wrist as he watched him drink of his own blood.

It didn't seem possible, but Xearus' eyes took on an even wilder appearnce, and an odd feeling of jealousy crept over him as he knew Calin had that little heaven. Xearus couldn't make his own like that. One of them had to keep thier head straight...well at least as straight a starved vampire's head can be. He shook his head and took a breath then returned careful attention to monitoring Calin.

Pressuring Calin's wrist in his fingers he tugged, forcing the wrist away from the fangs and thus ending Calin's false meal. "That's enough Calin..." Drinking too much woul donly make the fledgling weak. And with an unknown amount of sun and silver to look forward too, that wasn't a good situation for eithter of them to face.

Calin growled when his meal was interrupted and bared his fangs before he realized who it was and why he was stopped. He shook his head and licked the blood from his lips trying to savor at least a few drops of that sweet, sticky substance that kept him alive. He still had the feel of the blood in his mouth and he wished to God that he could get more. But after a few minutes he was only hungrier than he had been before. It was the worst hell. Now he knew why Xearus hadn't done it. He yanked his wrist away and stared down at the fang marks in his skin. "Damn...I really am desperate..."

"You're not desperate. Just starving. And a fledgling." Xearus sighed again as he moved away from Calin, back to his own corner, sitting on his trench coat once more. A breif look up and he noticed that the silver was no longer dripping and the first few stars were coming out. Ah, sweet sweet night. He rubbed at his eyes and then looked to Calin once more. "Don't you dare drink anymore tonight. Your body may not be able to handle it. It's something you only do when you absolutely are on the verge of loosing yourself...and even then, you're to hesitate."

He shifted slightly, popping his neck, running a hand through silver speckled hair, pulling out a few dry fragments. "You should count yourself lucky actually, you need less blood than me. So I'm just a little more crazier than you at this point perhaps." Another sight and he leaned back, arms going limp by his sides. Silence reigned a moment. "A whole dollar for your thoughts Calin? Seems you always have something on your mind, and this silence is deafening."
