Hi, I'm a Canadian living in Japan, and am a Christian. After reading Emotional Intelligence, I liked the idea of working on the emotions, and read Daniel Goleman's following books, Destructive Emotions--and how we can overcome them, and Healing Emotions--conversations with the Dalai Lama on mindfulness, emotions, and health. The emotions taught in Christianity are the similar to those taught in Buddhism, but it just seems that the Buddhists actually have a much better technique for actually practicing those emotions. What I mean to say is that knowing they are good emotions, and practicing them are two different things, and the Buddhists actually have a proven technique and take the time to solely practice those emotions.
I guess I'm more interested in secular Buddhism than actual Buddhism, but the results of tests done on advanced meditators is convincing, and seems to make a lot of sense. I'm hoping to go to some Buddhist retreats, but that will be after we've taken a couple trips back to Canada.
I have a wife and a son, and work as an English teacher at Berlitz.

Welcome to the Guild! I'm currently majoring in Japanese in Canada (chuckles). I'm a first year student at the University of Regina. Hopefully, I'll be able to take advantage of the exchange student program and study for a year at Tenri University (near Nara and Osaka).
Buddhism does make a wonderful non-religious philosophical system. It poses no threat to established religions (at least not any that I know of) because it's not interested in questioning the existence of the divine.

Hello, my name Doma-chan or just Doma. I am 16 and live in the United States. I've recently become interested in Buddhism and trying to learn more about it because I'm considering becoming a Buddhist. I lost hope in other religions a long time ago but still feel the need for some religion to go by for myself and my sanity. There is so much to take in and if anyone can help me out some, I would be very greatful for the help.

Call me Pam Maz. I'm only 15 but I'm so intrested in Buddhism and have become commited to the way of Zen Buddhism. I think I started whan I was 13. I was never bathatised (I think that's how you spell it.. no that not it.) so I have no ties to the faithes of gods and all that nonesense. I found that Buddhism is more of a way of life then a religion. One benifits more form it. (although I dearsay I'm very bad at it) I try follow the path. I know I'll never become a bddha be I feel that in my next life time I will. And that's a thing to say. sweatdrop I live in New York City yet manage to mantain a humble little teenage life. I'm pleased with my life and want nothing more from it (many little tiny thongs) but thay do not change my life and how I see it.
Yeah. I also want to learn more.

Hi everyone, my name is Melanie, I'm 21 years old, currently studying in the University of Toronto ^_^
I've taken a few courses on Buddhism, and I'm highly interested in learning more. Mostly because learning Buddhism helped me become more understanding towards things that happen in life (especially why bad things happen... <-- as a result from karma)
Right now, I'm still trying to find which Buddhism school is right for me, but as of now, i'm still really confused about which one, because each school seems to have their own philosophies that I respect so much.
I am interested in Tian Tai Buddhism a lot because it combines all Buddhist schools into one, and stresses the importance of philosophies as well as meditation (although I have yet to learn about meditation)

thought i doubt anybody reads this anymore because it's an old thread- i'll still post. ^__^
My real name is Rae, i'm 15 and live in Aloha Oregon. I had my initial step into buddhism in 7nth grade when i learned about Siddhartha Guatama's life and some of his teachings in a History class. I decided to pursue the life of a buddhist after watching the movie Ghandi and really changed me. the idea of non-violence entered my life and i was suddenly ready for a new life style. it has been a long time since that, maybe 6 months or so. And i've been finding it hard to stay true to this path- no matter how pure it ultimatly makes my life- i always find myself slipping back into an impure and unhappy exsistence. i joined this guild for help staying on track and i can only hope that i will find my inner buddha.

Just in case anyone is still reading this thread,
Call me Midori, I'm almost 45 (ouch) and I'm Episcopalian, myself, but I feel all paths to truth and the divine are valid. My priest (who also feels all paths to the divine are valid) recently let me borrow Jesus and Buddha: The Parallel Sayings by Marcus Borg. It's very interesting. I wanted to learn more, so when I joined Gaia Online yesterday and went guild hunting, I found you folks! Yaay!

Like the others have said, I'm not sure if anyone's still reading this, but I'll just post for the sake of posting.
I'm Celina-chan, or just Celina if you like. I'm 14 years old, and am living in the southern United States. I bacame interested in Buddhism several months ago, after I got interested in Asian cultures/lifestyles/etc. I've never had ties to any paticular religion (to the dissappiontment of most of my family), though I've always enjoyed learning about, no matter what religion it may be. One day, I just happened to be in Books-A-million, and had the sudden urge to go and find a book on Buddhism (ended up buying 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eastern Philosophy', heheh). Buddhism just made more sense to me than any other religion I've ever known about, and it fit pretty well with my own beleifs. I'm just joining to further what I already know, get a better understanding, and hopefully meet some people I can actually talk to (living in a place where practically everyone's pretty much a 'hard-core 'Christian[no offense meant to anyone], I don't exactly have anyone I can openly discuss other religions with).
Well, that's it for my introduction. Hope to talk to you soon!

Hello, I am Timothy David Martuch and I feel a bit out of place here, partly because I am a devote Christian. You don't have to worry about me preaching or attempting to convert anyone. I don't see how it is possible to convert someone over the internet. Anyway, I'm here for 2 reasons: 1) To educate myself no this faith/philosphy. 2) To obtain important information about the individuals of this guild. I want to use that information on an essay I'm going to write on nature and nurture. ^_^ I hope this will be productive. Thanks for reading --Timo

Hi all,
Bit of introduction, my name is Henry and I am 23 years old. I am Chinese Indonesian and, currently, studying in Australia for my Bachelor Degree.
I am a Theravadan Buddhist since small but began to understand when I entered junior high school. Since then, I learn more through books, friends, and reverends or monks. When I have free time, I go to nearby temple and do some volunteer works.
Hope I can learn more from you guys.
Heaps of thanks for accepting me into the guild.
PS: Sorry for my bad english. English is not my first language.

Hello every one.
My name is Charity Bedell. I used my real name as my screen name. You can call me Charity or Usagi-K.
I am 19 years old. I'll be 20 in November. I'm not Buddhist, but I want to learn. I joined this guild in hopes of being able to learn more about the religion. I hear it discussed all the time so I would like to learn about it to increase my knowlage of religions.
Aside from studing religions I'm an artist and I love children. I was in college. My major was in social work and elementry education. I also had art and psychology in there as well.
I tend to be easy going. I hope to learn a-lot from you guys. Thank you.
