Me: Don't take this the wrong way- but why? That's buying into every Hollywood stereotype. I mean, if you were wondering what I was going to do it would have worked to ask- but asking if my roomie isn't being nice is kind of rude.

Person 2: It seemed more like he was joking than being rude, Esiris.

Me: Insensitive jokes can be rude- especially when they play to stereotypes that hurt a religious community.

Person 2: Maybe you need to lighten up a bit and see the joke for what it was. He wasn't being insensitive, and, besides, poppets can be used for negative things, so I don't see where he was being insensitive.
It just seemed like you were going out of your way to start a fight.

Me: Not going out of my way at all- if it had been asked differently it would have come across more like an honest question and less like an "Oooooh... Voodoo!" reaction which is rude. People might think it's funny- but it isn't any more than someone calling a Wiccan a slut because it's a fertility religion is funny.

Even if all their posts are just honest mistakes, they both lost a HUGE amount of respect in my eyes. They used the same arguments that people use against LGBT people, against Blacks, other religious minorities... Just UGH.

Dear people in my Ancient Religions class,

THE GODS ARE NOT HUMANS! Please stop treating them like constructs of humanity! If I hear "the Greeks created the gods" or "the only worthwhile thing to be learned from these myths is how Archaic Greek society worked" one more time I swear... They aren't human constructs. They ******** exist and people ******** worshiped them. Hell, people still worship them, even if it's not in a historical context, so STOP. DELEGITIMIZING. PAGAN. RELIGION. I don't ******** tell you that your God isn't real, so don't keep doing it with other people's gods! I'm sure you'll show great respect when we start talking about ancient Abrahamic religion, so please just extend that courtesy to pagans as well. Otherwise, I'll just start going on about YHWH as an Abrahamic tribal god who should be unapplicable to other contexts, and you will understand how I feel. ... except for the atheists. I don't know how to make you stop making shitty comments in class.
