" She's okay..." Waru said reassuringly. " She seems tough." He reached over and covered her hand with his own. Her green eyes were troubled and he wanted to do something to help. He didn't know Nolah, and he couldn't exactly reach out to her but he had the impression that those two, whoever they were didn't want her hurt. He smiled, lip darting out to moisten his dry lips.
" I'm more worried about you. I don't know what kind of powers you have or what physical defences you know."

"Yeah, she is. I hope she'll be alright." Lyra whispered, watching Waru wet his lips with his tongue. "I can defend myself to some extent, but I do not know enough to be a danger to anybody."

" Well I can help with that. I don't have any 'magical' powers...except being able to tell when immortals are around...well I mean immortals like me, not angels or whatever..." He was beginning to ramble and he blushed. " You stay here, I'll be right back." And then he got up from the bed and out of the room.
In the hall he took a moment to catch his breath. He hadn't been that close to a woman in a while...especially one like Lyra. He shook his head and continued on to his room. Once inside he grabbed his sword from the bed. It was a samurai sword, hundreds of years old. The handle was ivory, carved almost imperceptibly with his name and symbols of his heritage. It had been given as a gift when he'd 'become a man'. He'd never seen a sword of that quality since. He'd seen beautiful swords, wonderful, deadly swords but none had ever seemed better than his, at least to himself.
He smiled fondly at the blade and tucked it under his arm before rifling through his bag. One sword, and one sword only had come close. It was perhaps a hundred and fifty years younger than his own. The handle was ebony with jade overlays. The color of it reminded him of Lyra's eyes. He pulled it out of the backpack and held it up to the light. With a smile he turned and left.
Lyra let him in at his first knock. The jade sword was behind his back as he entered.
"Close your eyes." He told her playfully. She raised an eyebrow but after a moment, complied. "Hold out your hands." This too, she did and carefully he stepped forwards and placed the sword between her slender fingers. " Open." He instructed.

"Open." Lyra immediately opened her eyes and stared at the thing in her hands. "It...it's beautiful." She smiled, running her fingers over the ebony handle and stared at the jade embedded into it. "What am I to do with it?" Lyra questioned.

"I'm going to teach you how to fight with it." He said grinning, excited at her reaction. Now take a couple of steps back...out into the middle of the room so we won't hit anything, and then I'm going to come at you. Just defend yourself however you think you should or whatever instinct makes tells you to." He said, stepping back and glancing to make sure he wasn't near anything breakable.

"O-okay." Lyra hesitated, she had never touched a sword until now and she was unsure of what to do. "Just be easy on me..I've never done this before." She said meekly.

" Of course, but not for long." He laughed. " I have a sneaking suspicion that once you get the hang of it, you'll be really good." He broke off mid-sentence and rushed at her, hair flying up behind him.

Gasping, Lyra held the sword up high waiting for Waru to come in contact with her. Instinctively, when Waru's sword touched hers she immediately knocked it away from her and touched his neck with the cold blade. "Uh...I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.." She admitted quietly, adverting her eyes from the experienced swordsman.

Rien and Elure ran to the inn silently, through the pelting rain. Just before Rien shut the door, she looked out into the mess of Dark Haven. "Why?" she asked herself. "Why did I ever come here, especially to hide!? There is no hiding."
The two ran upstairs, to Rien's room. There she sat Elure on the bed and hugged him so tightly. "Elure, you came here to find me. How you found me I don't know, because I thought I was well hidden. I know what you're going to ask me now... why do I need to hide? "Well I've done a terrible thing, and I hope you'll forgive me. You remember, as children, the nightmares installed in us about the Reaper. Well as we grew up, we scoffed and laughed about the Reaper- there's no way he exists, right? Wrong. Well when I heard tale of the Reaper coming to our town, I fled as father advised. However, I presumed that if the Reaper was indeed real, then so must the Black Blade be real."
"The Black Blade," laughed Elure. "That's definitely not real. Have you not seen Theonidas? He's unstoppable, and there's no way that a sword will stop him!"
Elure's laugh trickled out when he looked at his sister's face: deadly serious. He shook his head disbelievingly, but she nodded in response.
"Elure listen to me. There IS a black blade. Whether it is THE Black Blade or not, I do not know. However, when I left home I travelled for days, months and eventually years to find this blade. I asked hundreds of people, yet all gave me one of two answers: it doesn't exist, or don't even attempt it. "I concluded that it must exist, but it was a dangerous mission to get it. Well I was right on both levels."
The elf stood and walked to her bed. Kneeling to the ground, she pulled out an old, wooden box: long and thin, but it was strong and beautiful at the same time, with stunning carvings on it. She flicked the clasp and opened the box, the hinges squeaking only slightly. Rien unfolded the black cloth, which covered the object inside, and stepped back for Elure to see.
Elure drew in a long breath, not knowing what to say or do. There, in front of the two of them, was a truely majestic sword. It was like a samurai sword: slightly curved, incredibly sharp and the handle was carved incredibly. But the most distinctive feature was the ash black blade.
"Elure, this blade can destroy anyone and anything. The legend is that only those doing good can wield it, and when one with bad intentions holds it, it will burn to white. "My aim was to wield it myself, but now that I know that Tank is the Reaper, I can't possibly. I could kill Athos quite happily, but not Tank. Elure I don't know what to do," she sobbed.
The older elf took his sister in his arms and hugged her tightly. "I will wield it for you, but you must understand the consequences. Blood will be spilt, including my own." Rien reluctantly nodded, and they stood silently. They embraced, savouring the memory of each other.
"Come," whispered Rien. They stepped into the hall, prepared to go outside, but heard swords clashing nearby. Running into Lyra's room, they paused in shock. "Um hi," attempted Rien.

Waru spun around, his and Lyra's blades pushed against each other. He could feel her arms shaking beneath the weight and cursed himself for forgetting that she had never weilding a weapon before, let alone one of such magnificence.
" Um hi?" He spun back around again to find Rien and Elure standing in the doorway, confused and perhaps a little shocked. Waru pulled his sword back, grinning.
" Hey...sorry did we disturb you?" He asked, face slightly flushed. Though their facial features were different and one was dark, the other light he could tell right away that they were related. He smiled again, piercings shining in the lamp-light. He seemed unaware or not the least bit bothered that the only article of clothing he possessed was the jeans (tight and torn). Lyra came to stand beside him, cheeks stained a flattering pink. In her hand, the jade sword rested as though it belonged. Her first few attempts at blocking had come remarkably well. Though slim in build, she was stronger than she appeared.
"Rien, right?" She asked softly. Her hands were still shaking from absorbing the last blow of Waru's sword.
" I was just teaching her how to fight." Waru supplied quickly to dispel any thoughts of malignant intent.

"And a good idea it is too," replied Rien, looking at Waru with a glint in her eye. "Who knows what we'll need in the coming days, or maybe even hours!"
She then turned to Lyra. "Yeh, it's Rien. Nice to see you again Lyra. This is Elure, my brother; and who's your new tutor?" she said, smiling.

"This is Waru." Lyra offered with a smile, gesturing to him. He stepped forwards, extending his hand in greeting.
" Pleasure to meet you." He replied, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear. " You're elves I take it..." His eyes darted up to their pointed ears.

"Yup that's the one," chipped in Elure. "You know life forever? That is... unless the Reaper gets us!"
No one laughed, making Elure feel very stupid, so he just shifted from one foot to the other uncomfortably.
"Don't mind him," joked Rien, "he's the stupid one of the family." Elure just laughed, pushing Rien gently.
"Yeh well you might have the brains, but I got the looks! So anyway, what are you two planning on doing next?"

"Cool, I'm immortal too." He held out his hand with a smile. "Probably not nearly as old as you guys but..." He chewed on one of his lip piercings, glancing at Lyra.
" Yeah...um...I'm not sure what we're doing. We overheard something we weren't supposed to." She tried to sound confident. " And we talked it over a little, and-"
"We're starting to piece it together." Waru finished without realizing. Lyra blushed. " We were outside the well..." Waru began to relay the whole thing, including his encounter with Bellamy in his homeland of Japan. Before waiting for a reaction, he headed towards the door. " I'm going to go get dressed in something more...appropriate I'll be back in a sec."
The look on Lyra's face plainly said that she didn't want him to put on more clothing but Waru flashed her a goofy grin and she couldn't help smiling as he ducked out the door and his footsteps faded down the hall. She turned to her two guests.
"So..." She said nervously. She was never good around people she barely knew. Her hands twined behind her back while she focused her eyes on the embroidery of her dress.
