Perdue winced at the innocent inquiry, an expression of sheepish pride distorting his tall features. "Yes and no," he replied after quite some time, spindly fingers fiddling with the copper wedding band among the charms he wore about his neck. Chuckling softly to himself, he shook his head, scratched the spattering of stubble on his jutting jaw and caught Sam's eyes in his own. "Let's just say we haven't spoken since I left her on Dominica with a flighty Creole and his madcap uncle." Dragging a calloused hand through his dark hair, he flashed a puckish grin to his companion and busied himself with refilling his flagon, but the humour never reached his eyes. "You, lad?"

John warily entered the pub, peering over the door and inspecting the current occupants suspiciously before entering. He had just arrived on Provoka in the Sea Crow, a Provokan War Sloop, in the company of Vincent Daithes and Governor Angevin. It had been some months since he had been on Provoka, having evaded the detection of a hellish entity and making his way to the island of Hispaniola in the company of petty merchants.
Now, back in his old haunt, he feels comfort creeping over him once again. Though he doesn't trust it. Comfort? Now?! With an entity of such viciousness on the loose?! Hardly.
A few occupants he recognised, others were just common people passing through port. Sam he recognised, who seemed to be debating the merits of dresses and bows with a calloused, sea-worn gentleman. Quite an odd scene really. A man of such gruff composure discussing ladies garments with a cross-dressing lecher. Madness ...
" ... This is Provoka ... "
John told himself before sitting at the bar, awaiting service.

Vincent walked into the pub, taking in the smells and scent of the all-too familiar place. Having finished the meeting, he needed a good strong drink; the stuff he had on his Isle was not aged properly. He took a seat, and helped himself to the tap.
"Ahhh...Provoka life-juice..."
Filling his mug to the overflowing point, he took up the dark liquid and drink it down. His parched lips brimming with life again, he felt right at home.

The resounding silence plaguing the common room intensified, if at all possible, for the briefest of moments as a pair of scurvy scalawags entered the pub accompanied by a salty sea breeze. Something in the familiar saline wind bespoke a frightfully paranormal presence, however, and Perdue shuddered as the fresh air grazed the back of his neck. "I take't the great gatherin's o'er and done with," he droned in his pleasant baritone to no one in particular after a healthy swig from his teeming flask. He recalled the piteous lack of patrons in the pub, the pretty assemblage of ships in the harbour, and the furtive whispers circulating the Provokan gossip train. That there had been a council meeting, there was no doubt. The contents and outcome of said meeting, however, were fair game for the ambitious gossip-monger. Reclaiming his seat between the silent Arthur Rudd and his young, cross-dressing companion of five minutes, Perdue rested a scraggly chin in rough palm and stared into the depths of his flagon. "If I were a blackbird, the wind 'neath my wing, I would follow the vessel me true love sails in..."

-: Having just arrived in Provoka for the first time in what seemed years, Myere Vanstring made his way to the Spyglass Inn. Pushing the door slightly open, he crept inside and made himself comfortable across from his Captain's usual chair. Shaking his head, he raised his hand and guestured for the barwench.
"Thrice-Dey Groog Ratians, eef you coud." :-

Vincent nodded at Perdue.
"I see you've found your way back here, Perdue. Nice to see a familar face or two in these parts. Who's the quiet one?"
He motioned towards Arthur, who looked like he was on the verge of a mental breakdown. He kept mumbling something about a gorilla and cutting the throat of 'them no good sonssabitches', whatever that meant.

"Is'at so?" Perdue queried on a bark-like laugh. "Nor I, lad, nor I." He flicked the wedding band hanging from the chain about his neck and winked just as Sam turned his attentions to the newly-arrived Governor. Nodding solemnly to Angevin, he returned his attentions to his flagon of grog and basked in his solitude for the time being. "And in the top riggin', I'd there build my nest. I'd flutter me wings o'er her lily-white breast," he finished with a soft chuckle and a wistful sigh, raising the flask to his lips once more as the melody of the Scottish ditty reeled on in his mind. At the sound of his name, he craned his head to fix a keen grey graze on a familiar brown face. "Well met, Daithes, well met," he drawled in response to the pirate's amiable greeting. Shifting on his stool to better peer at the seaman in question, he shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck. "Haven't the slightest. But I'll be hanged if he ain't a reg'lar Provokan tenderfoot," he drawled in regards to Arthur Rudd's muted mumbling and struggle with the tap.

The old rouge went right over to the barrels of rum and killed the tap until it popped off. As it started to run down she grabbed a tankard and collected the little of the liquor that poured out; the barrel was empty. "Ween waz ze last zime anyone refilled ziz pub, eh?" the governor yelled slightly before taking a drink of the nice cool rum. It was relaxing to have some people to yell at.

"Lat time it was filled it was after our little skirmish with that gorilla. Looks like I will have to go and do that myself..."
Vincent hopped over the counter and made his way into the locked backroom; he forced the door open. He returned a few moments later rolling two barrels of rum across the wooden floor, and mounted them to the tap. Testing his handywork, he filled a mug with fresh rum. He handed it to Angevin.
"Figured if Ardrick could do it, why not me?"

"I reckon I saw Common Theif wondering around the port a few days back..."
Vincent lit his pipe, and began to smoke.
"...what worries me is Warwood. I haven't seen him for months. Although, he has been writing. I guess I am just overly paranoid when it comes to my nephew. Hard worker, he is."

John sat silently, anxiously inspecting his surroundings ...
The governor had entered, as cautiously as he had, but seemed to have relaxed since her entry and fallen into one of her characteristic wobblers, having found the pub ill-kept.
The calloused old captained had struggled with the tap before otherwise occupying himself. Nothing out of the ordinary. Sam seemed fine, though John doubted he would ever empathise with his odd dress-sense ... Ah, but that's neither here nor there.
Vincent then lit up his pipe and memories of the demon began flooding back into John's memory ...
" ... Yer' bein' paranoid, John. Calm yerself'! ... " He murmured, toying with his hair girlishly.Vincent Daithes "...what worries me is Warwood. I haven't seen him for months. Although, he has been writing. I guess I am just overly paranoid when it comes to my nephew. Hard worker, he is." Hmm?
"Er ... young Warwood's missin'? "
