I read the season 8 comic too..pretty good and the thing with Dawn...totally hilarious (she gets on my nerves) but all in all a good start...typical of the Buffyverse.
Although..I hear scandalous things are ahead for Buffy!!!

I hope they're going somewhere with this whole Buffy-sleeps-with-a-woman-thing. It just seems more about shock and 'ooh funny lesbian' jokes to me and it's just weird. Why have a one-night stand with somebody if you're not ******** gay? That's what has always bothered me about certain straight people, no offense.

You guys HAVE to understand that, even if you just wanna be fun and fool around with us or experiment, we're going to bring our emotions into it! It's just, you grow up in a world with mostly straight people, and you finally get a little same sex action- but it means more to you than the other person! So then you don't want it to go deeper, but they will....because being gay is about the gender you're romantically attracted to as much as it is the emotional and sexual parts.

So many men on the DL like gay sex more than anything else but won't take on the identity cause they think it makes them weak. But they don't even bother challenging the stereotypes. So they're just selfish whores. They could do A LOT by being masculine and coming out of the closet at least as a bisexual, but they can't even do that for the most part.

I just really hate that. I just think it was wrong of Buffy to do that to Satsu. It's like, she kind of felt sorry for her and I get that it's easy to do that. Like if you're the only gay person or even gay in a very visible straight majority, straight supportive people will want you to find somebody to be with- but it's better to find them another gay person than it is to fool around with them yourself. But then sometimes it's easier for gay and straight people to connect, because other gay people seem too uptight and wary. But that comes from self-hatred issues and not trusting ourselves.

I just think Buffy really overstepped her bounds there. But maybe it was supposed to show how she was equal to her Slayers or something. Satsu getting a crush on Buffy was so like gay guys getting crushes on likeable straight guys. But I remember meeting this younger gay guy before and I was the first real gay person he ever met before who could matter-of-factly say that he's gay, and his face just lit up like a christmas tree.

Satsu needed to meet other lesbians to see if she meshed, not just what was first available: ie a very supportive, but very straight girl. But I suppose that's not too realistic, is it... They both wanted love. And Buffy isn't totally straight I know (who is?), but - it's like what, are they gonna make everyone gay now. Not that I mind. Xander already has many gay male signs. I think that would be so awesome if everybody was gay, so it would be empowering not just a whiny/emo thing like it usually is on tv. Really when are we gonna get our gay characters to kick a**? Besides the lesbians of course- we already knew they could do that! Haha.

Joss has done so much for the gay community though. I have faith he knows what he's doing here and he's not just fulfilling straight male lesbian fantasies. *sigh*

Wynter? Alex? I would like your opinions on this matter too. Despite being activisty and kinda bitchy about this issue, I know I only speak for myself not every gay person. Still I just don't know if Joss knows what he's doing with this. I can't help but think he's just being cute with the straight guy likes lesbians thing. Which I don't mind. If makes sense for straight guys duh, that's just what you like.

HephaestusOS
no...f*cking...way...
buffy is a LESBIAN!?!? stupid satsu and your conniving ways! grr...what an awful move! seriously, that's worse of a move than willow choosing buffy over tara. it's just wrong! buffy can not and should not be a lesbian!
now, i have nothing against lesbians, but i do have something against buffy if she is one!
okay, so buffy and satsu are just gettin' out of bed, apparently just having had sex. buffy tells her not to tell anyone, and then mr. xander walks in.

oh, and, apparently, xander is twilight. d*ck move, joss!

OH MY GOD!!!! Please tell me this is a joke! My store hasn't got this one in yet, so I have no idea. I did look on the darkhorse website though and I saw the page in question (Satsu looked like she was 12).

I think that the show is diverse enough, I think that the best representation of loveable characters is Tara and Willow there is anough about lesbians, but I think if they planned to do another gay couple DO GUYS FOR A CHANGE!!! Tara/Willow showed two women are completely devoted to each other, yet when in Buffy have we seen gay men portrayed in a non-comical way? We get Larry who's main quirk is that he's a manly gay guy and thinks Xander is gay too, but he dies and we barely know him. And of corse Andrew who's just a flamboyant little rascal who crushes like a school girl on Warren and is always joked about. And to be really technical, Scott Hope pretended to get with girls like he did with Buffy and turned out to be gay in college. Gay males are treated like a joke in Buffyverse rolleyes . Make a boy character who is not Andrew come out and have a cool relationship, cause if they do Andrew... yeah what a shock, he's gay.... hello it was practically his purpose to be mocked because he's effeminate, make Robin Woods or Xander gay, now that would be better.

I think Buffy may not be technically a lesbian though, but I think she is, however, a sex addict . I mean it wasn't enough that she used Spike for sex but now she's using a shy younger girl, come on at least to her defense with Spike he is like 200 years older, Satsu is atleast 3+ years younger. And she sorta has shown that she has an addiction, hello that house episode when she and Riley's 5 hour romp raised the dead (literally), the numerous Spike occasions, and RJ (who was DAWN'S AGE!!!). Plus she constantly talks about how much she misses sex since she went like a year with out it. I think Buff could use a ice cold shower before she starts sleeping with Giles... or Dawnie... or Willow... or any other nasty pairing that the pervert writers think up. Also writers greeeeaaaat job guys making an empowered role model into an sex fiend sex freak for fanboys to jerk off to, kudos reeeeaaaally talk2hand Come on Buffy going lesbian is way less believeable than Willow, Buffy was with boys and she has a fantasy of a threeway with Spike and Angel in the comic for crying out loud!!! But then again if she's bi... I don't have anything against that lifestyle, but for Buffy it just doesn't fit her, it clashes with every relationship that she's had. Not only that but it's not good story-wise, out of the blue she sleeps with a character that has no personality except young and gay? Unless Satsu is really an evil slayer like GiGi, or Satsu gets turned into a vampire and torments the hell out of Buffy, she won't really work as a love interest cause we've both been there done that and seen it done in a way that implies an actual RELATIONSHIP not just "Wanna have sex?" "Sure, why not?" like this relationship looks like it is, honestly people should only do that kind of thing if they really really love the other person and mean to stay with them, which is a reason I thought Tara and Willow sleeping together worked.

Also Xander is Twillight? Wow I actually thought that for a second when they did the itchy neck gag cause that's the sort of dumb thing Xander would do while wearing a mask rolleyes I never thought it was ACTUALLY him though, that flat out sucks balls. My main guess was Riley Finn cause he was supposed to make an appearance and he's with the government or whatever the hell they're making Buffy fight.

And also, I just had to mention what it said on the Darkhorse site about this. Yeah I'm so sure, a coincidence that the papers heard about Buffy's liason the same day that the issue came out rolleyes Yeah this sounds so much like a ploy for readers, but come on it's only going to attract pervy little boys who want to see boobies and probably won't buy again after they find out that there's no real nudity shown (atleast I'm guessing there isn't). But I'm still going to buy Buffy comics even if they are screwing with me cause I think part of being a Buffy fan is learning that they're going to 1.) screw with us and like it & 2.) They will probably kill off our favorite character eventually cry

I've had a lot of fun reading everyone's comments so far. Mmm, tasty discussion!

I'm interested to see what the end goal is with this...Buffy's not gay, we know this, she desires men, as evidenced by aforementioned sexy 3-way dream. I often feel like there isn't really a large enough vocabulary with which to discuss love and sexuality, and this is definitely one of those times. So Buffy's horny, and guys are in short supply; Buffy hooks up with a chick. I didn't have any major freak-outs about this; I really believe in a sliding scale of sexual orientation. However, not everyone does. This is where I start to wonder about the repercussions this might have. The Buffyverse has been lauded as a place to make people (or, at least, women) feel comfortable about homosexuality, but this sort of flies in the face of the "you're born a certain orientation" argument.

Buffy gets depressed/emotional, she goes and has sex. There's a precedent for this. With Parker, and Angelus ("the morning after"), Buffy was extremely hurt that her feelings were not reciprocated, and felt used and confused. Beyond these examples, though, she seems to be the sort of person who does a very similar thing. She didn't love Riley, but seemed to keep him around so she could feel better about herself ("I have a boyfriend, I'm still a normal girl") and have a ready partner for sex. She seemed more interested in using him as a babysitter than in really taking the time to connect to him. With Spike, it was all about how he made her feel, and not at all how she felt about him, except perhaps to the extent that his nature fueled her much-craved self-loathing. In season 7, I believe she was just beginning to appreciate what it could be like to have a relationship built on mutual trust, attraction, and perhaps even love, but before that could fully germinate, they were seperated by the war they had to fight. Spike was able to finally somewhat redeem himself through love for Buffy, but Buffy didn't have a chance to really get into that space herself.

Flash forward to Satsu. It would at least seem that history is repeating itself. Satsu knows that Buffy doesn't return her feelings, but she's so enamored with the queen of slayers that she'll take whatever she can get. Buffy manages to find some temporary relief from her stress, but wants to keep it a secret. Sound familiar? Yeah... The only notable difference is that everyone has already found out about this tryst, albeit in a very forced, not-quite-funny-enough, escalating-quasi-hilarity sort of way. I suppose I could be greatly underestimating Buffy, but it does seem extremely likely that Satsu is going to be hurt by this. I honestly hope they don't kill off Satsu, not because she's such a great character or anything, but for a dose of reality that Buffy has slept with this person, used her, and now has to continue interacting with her on a day-to-day basis.

Buffy likes having sex. This is not a bad thing; in fact, it seems like her issues with power, sexuality, self-image, etc. are the only parts of her character that are really interesting (to me at least). At some point, though, I feel like it desperately needs to be acknowledged that while she expects/demands devotion from those whom she couples with, she doesn't seem to feel like that applies to her. I don't even think casual sex is a bad thing, but as Sol has already pointed out, it's not casual to Satsu, and Buffy knows it.

Oh, yeah, and if they try to pass it off that Buffy is suddenly gay now, goodbye, credibility. I have enough faith to not pass judgement for now, but how the story is handled from this point will determine whether there is a storytelling function of this event, or if some of the writers just thought it would be hot. Thanks, dudes, but there's already fanfiction for that, some of it good, some of it hilariously not. Just keep it out of the canon unless you're gonna do something meaningful with it.

I guess I agree with most of that. I think it's kinda going back on Buffy's whole "I'm cookies" speech to Angel, I thought it ment she was trying to wait for a time to have a relationship built on her being ready to be fully open with someone. If that's the case here it's extremely rushed (even more than Willow and Kennedy was rushed!!!). She obviously hasn't been honest with Satsu, or else Satsu would know Buffy isn't lesbian. Satsu's going to be heart broken when Buffy shows her that she wanted it to be a one night stand. Also Buffy has a strong gay following which is because same sex couples weren't based on "I'm so sex hungry I'll screw anything... why hello there little girl who has a crush on me... C'M'ERE!!! pirate " I don't think I'd like it if I read that Buffy pretended to be lesbian just for sex, it's kinda saying that being homosexual is just an option or that anyone can change orientation at any given moment.

And also, everytime that Buffy does something bad karma gets her. I kinda figure that this is going to be bad for her because she obviously doesn't care too much about Satsu at least not in the same way Satsu did and is ashamed to have to be caught in bed with her. I have to wonder if Satsu knew that she was getting into something so one sided. She obviously LOVED Buffy since her kiss woke Buffy up and it was only able to be broken by someone who loved her romantically which is why Xander and Willow didn't try. Also I think it's going to get awkward as hell if Angel or Spike show up and Satsu finds out. Also I just realized that spike would have an extremely hilarious reaction to being replaced by a girl "Bloody Hell Buffy!!! A sodding girl? Over me? Who saved your sodding bacon and coulda died?! eek ...This is almost worse than when Dru left me for the sodding larva demon..." Or maybe Xander, since he doesn't really like Spike, would say "Yeah turns out Buffy needed a more masculine mate rofl " then poor Spike just picks up a stake with a blank stare and stake himself. They can't let Angel find out cause he'd just look at her broadingly say "Buffy? neutral " then go somewhere and sob to himself (...well it seemed to me like Angel's reaction).

Even though I'm a Buffy/Spike shipper I think Buffy has only really loved Angel on the show. Everything after him was one sided with her either attaching too fast or her not getting attached enough, ironically each time it was too fast she got used. Riley was in love with her but she didn't like him as much as Angel and she didn't put a lot of effort in telling him she liked him. She used Spike's love for her to her advantage when she was lonely and that's the only reason she had sex with him, cause out side the bed room she treated him like an object. I like to believe that when he died for her she realised she loved him too at least a little bit. With Satsu it's kinda like Spike mixed with Riley, she obviously sees Satsu as a friend but wants to have sex with her, but she doesn't appear to be as close wth her as she was with Riley but is ashamed to have people know like Spike.

Yeah I don't think sex is bad but I think it should be something people do when they trust a person and, at the very least, know the person enough so they don't have to realize the morning after that the person used them. Here she's pulling a Parker on Satsu! I like how you put this

At some point, though, I feel like it desperately needs to be acknowledged that while she expects/demands devotion from those whom she couples with, she doesn't seem to feel like that applies to her.
I think that fits her perfectly because she did that to Riley and Spike when she ignored how they hurt because of her and she was trying to avoid dealing with it by pretending to not notice Riley's inferiority complex or Spike's constant need for her attention.

And I just felt like discussing other things in Buffy Season 8. I think they should bring Oz in somewhere the Wolves at the Gate arc has him written all over it. I'd love to see him and Willow meeting again after a long time, cause they agreed that they both would always have a connection. And hello he has no idea how much has changed since they last talked. It has so much potential fr story possiblitiies (Hopefully involving Oz ripping off Kennedy's face 3nodding ).

And Also Twilight , I think he's someone we've seen before cause he knows Buffy's moves, is kinda quirky, hates to see Buffy cry, and seems to think girls aren't as strong as boys stare .

My main hope for someone to show up is Tara, Willow spoke with Element Goddesses She could have asked one of them about Tara, if Tara was able to be reborn or brought back since Willow is favored by them.

Seeing Oz show up again would be great; he was one of my favorite characters back when the gang was still in high school. Everyone's been through some pretty extreme changes by now, but Oz was adventuring long before the others left Sunnydale. Has there ever been an Oz miniseries? That would be interesting...

I'm pretty curious to see how the Drac plotline pans out. I'd give him just about equal probability of plotting against Buffy & co, doing nothing but being all suave-yet-lonely, or becoming an ally to the slayers against a "greater evil." Actually, I'd give a bit more weight to the latter, simply because it's a cooler option. Dracula respects Buffy, and supernatural-type creatures don't typically benefit from covert government programs...

Oz was so awesome Seth Green is the best! I think there was a comic mini series about him working on making his powers work in his advantage, but I never read it. I think it's in the newest omnibus which I haven't bought yet sweatdrop I want to bad though. I would love to see him back with the old gang. I think if he's not at least mentioned in Wolves at the Gate once then it'll be shocking to me. I wonder if he'd attack Kennedy for sleeping with Willow because when Tara talked to him he smelled that they'd been all over each other he chased her into that room and would have hurt her if the initiative hadn't come in, that was pretty out of character for Mr. Mellow eek .

The Dracula idea was kinda unexpected for me, but it seems awesome. His turning to smoke thing was neat. I haven't watched Buffy vs. Dracula in a long time was he able to turn into a bat? I don't really think that this Dracula is the "real" Dracula because according to the creators vampires look more bat/devil-like as they get ancient and Dracula would have to be older than the Master, I thought this Dracula was a poser using the name. I think Dracula is going to be a little of both, he'll be on the side of the slayers but wants to suck their blood because according to Spike slayer blood is the best for vampires. I wouldn't mind if he took a bite out of the slayer with the weird accent and outrageously poofy hair, Leah I think her name was...

Is Dawn going to do something at all soon because I think they aren't using her Giant-ness to do much lately... Is her condition being focused on because I just want them to get it over with, being a average height whiner isn't as bad as being a giant whiner. And how are airplanes not seeing her? She's the size of a house for Pete's sake!

And how are airplanes not seeing her? She's the size of a house for Pete's sake!

xd Yeah, I was wondering that, too. Ummm, magic. Magic is shielding her from prying eyes. Yep.

Yeah, it definitely seems odd to do something gimmicky like radically changing a character's appearance, and then not even use that gimmick. Maybe the writers couldn't think of any other excuse as to why she'd be hanging out with Bufy instead of being away at school?

Oh maybe they said that as a reason people don't notice her.

I thought so too. I mean in one issue we find out how she got that way and there doesn't seem to be any concern on finding Kenny to making Dawn normal. If that's a reason for Dawn to not go to school, it's kinda odd that none of the new Slayers' parents know/care that their daughters are going out to potentially die without getting told about it, like the unnamed girl who dressed as Buffy cause she obviously had parents because she went to private school and it's not like anyone will tell them their daughter died pretending to be Buffy and battling an evil vampire from hell...

I agree we need more REAL GAY MEN on the show. But male homosexuality is actually threatening to people for some reason. It's a way to cheapen both lesbians and male homosexuality actually.

Not to brag or anything but I'd be a good gay cast member. Not too andrew-y or Xander- just right. I'm no Larry either... I'm Sam, the best gay person in the universe. ;p I'd be a gay male shaman as my super power, cause shamans rock.

So if they can't have actual homoerotcism instead of just 'haha gay' I don't know if Buffy is a show I can take seriously. We really need to be out of that junior high mentality. I have a sense of humor too, but if you met me in real life you quickly realize that I can be quite serious...

They need a real gay leader on the show that can own this s**t.

Many people compare me to Xander but I'm not really a Xander. I can be goofy but Xander was just ridiculous. I don't get why so many people are surprised that I'm actually big and masculine. Do I really sound like some petite twink online? LOL.

That reminds me of something I heard on the commentary of the epsiode where Amy turns back into a girl and they make the two dudes that were being rude to her and Willow dance in speedos in cages, but it was originally Willow or Amy was going to make them make out with each other but Joss said that making two guys kiss shouldn't be humorous or portrayed as funny. I think that means he wouldn't mind making a gay man strong and not act like the typical stereotype that says fabulous every 5 seconds, the Buffy guys that are gay don't really do that but Larry and Andrew are pretty much stereotypes even if they are kinda funny it's still not really showing that they think gay men are deep like Tara and Willow made gay women look.

I mean Andrew is an awesome character. I think he's funny and has personality but they make too many jokes about him crushing on Spike or Xander or Warren, come on Andrew would be so much better if he wasn't played as a stereotype which is why his and Anya's moments are the ones that fans enjoy the most cause he's not a walking gay joke. I think if they are praised for making Willow come out it would attract a lot more people if they did a positive portrayal of men.

For the most part, Joss is respectful to gay people so for the most part, I'm respectful to Joss....and I am glad he said that.

I thought Larry was well done actually. He wasn't too much of a joke really. It's okay to be joke-y, but to turn an entire orientation into something like it's meant to be made fun of is of course offensive.

I agree, Larry wasn't done too bad. I thought his moments were pretty funny but I'd have liked him to be more developed. I thought he would have been a nice addition to the cast, plus it would bring more diversity with strong gay men. He was in an alternate dimension "Scoobies" kinda cause Giles, Oz, and Larry were the only defense against the vamps with out Buffy in Sunnydale when Anya mad Cordy's wish come true. Plus it would be kinda cool if he came along cause he was a recuring guest on the show during the high school years, of corse they had to kill him in Graduation stressed . If they didn't kill him it would have been so cool if he was in the college episodes especially if he came along when Xander was looking for work.

The next issue is out...it's got a couple of rather amusing scenes, 'specially for any Andrew fans out there, and the Drac/Xander stuff mildly references the one issue of Tales of the Vampires I ever managed to read. (<---- is a happy little continuity whore)

I also read #6 of Angel: After the Fall, which was nice, because it actually starts to explain what the heck is goin' on in that whacked-out series.
