There was a moment of silence. Then, Kahlan's rune started to glow. The light was dim at first, but soon radiated a bright glow. The light engulfed the room and all you could see was that white. Seconds later, Kahlan put her other hand on top of Birgit's. There was more silence. Finally, Kahlan pulled her rune hand back then smiled warmly at Birgit.
You should now be able to talk the way I do...Go ahead...talk...

Birgit didn't know what to say. She didn't feel any different but something definatly happened. "What....happened?" She didn't feel like she was fighting in her mind not to talk in her native tounge. "I can talk better?" She blinked and relized it was true. She felt a little odd without her accent but she could be understood clearly. She touched her throat before lowering her head and started to chuckle and then laugh.

Casron ((Noooo! I liked having an accent buddy! crying )) (( too be honest I think its gonna be a temperary thing XD I liked her accent too. It made for an interesting character razz and she wasn't that difficult to understand razz ))

((no no its ok hun ^^ makes for good plot. Birgit wanted to lose it so much...but now she is gonna find that she misses it and get it back ^^ and she won't blame Kahlan either. razz ))

Kahlan smiled. Her idea had worked. Even though it was only going to temporary, it was good to talk to a civilized human being.
So...when are you going to take me back to my friends?
Kahlan's body was slowly, but surely, fighting off the posion. She would be able to move perfectly in another hour or two.

"I keep telling you. When the poison is out of your system I will take you back." Birgit was still amused that she could talk as a normal person but she was getting over it. She didn't have time to dwell on it anyways. Sshe pointed at her bed. "Go and lay down. It get the poison out of your system faster. Up until now you have been fighting the poison. If you stay still it fades faster."

Hours passed and Kahlan felt like she had been reborn. Her strength had returned and she could now see her friends. But she had a few questions to ask Birgit. Kahlan stood up and walked over to Birgit.
Ummm...I have some questions...
She looked Birgit in the eyes for truth.
First of all, why did you save me? Second, why haven't you killed me and turned me in for the reward yourself? I don't understand! You could have anything you want if you turn me in!

The darker woman looked at Kahlan from her seat on her trunk and studied her again. "I have been watching you Kahlan...for a little over a year now. Not once have I stepped in on your or your persures behalf...until now. Now when I meet you face to face instead of just watching from afar." Birgit closed her eyes and sighed letting what she had said so far sink into the air before continuing. "I could not let them hurt you back there. My heart...cold and unfeeling as it is wouldn't allow it." She then stood and looked down at Kahlan with honest eyes. "Maybe I see in you a chance to clean my bloody hands." After pauing again for a few moments Birgit took her eyes from Kahlan and raised her hand making a portal in the wall much like the one they had come through.

Kahlan was shocked. "A whole year and she never noticed?" She had so many opportunities where she could have turned me in, or worse, kill me!" Kahlan looked at the portal, then back at Birgit.
Please...come with me...I would be honored to have you along my side...
Kahlan brushed her amber hair aside from her eyes and tucked it behind her left ear. The only way Kahlan could even try to pay Birgit back for saving her from being raped, was for her to accompany them. She extended a hand towards Birgit, smiling warmly.
We would make a good team, you and I....don't you think?

Birgit looked at her hand and then at the portal. She had almost always been alone since she started her life away from her people. To be welcome into a group again...
Birgit nodded as she took Kahlan's hand and then began to lead her through the portal that would lead her back to her friends.

Hand in hand, the two walked out of the portal, appearing back in the forest where she had left her friends. Sure enough, they were all still there, apparently planning a way to save Kahlan, even though they needed not to. When Zanzar saw Kahlan, he let out a sigh of relief. But when he saw Birgit, his face turned to one of anger. Quickly, Kahlan put an arm in front of Birgit.
No, brother...she is a friend! If it weren't for her, I would no longer be a virgin and most likely dead!
Zanzar backed down.
Very well...
He bowed quite gracefully for a man his size.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving my sister...I owe a great debt...Thank you...
And for once, in a long time, Zanzar smiled.

Birgit inclined her head to this man and then looked around feeling out of place. It was enough to set her mentality back into her native tounge. She looked at Kahlan. "Birgit understands der worries." She moved hair from her face and again the rune in her forehead glimored in the sun. "Birgit wouldn't trust Birgit right off the bat netter."
Her body was stiff and she looked about the group half exspecting them to attack her. She had always had to fend people off.

Even though they weren't really related by blood, she knew Zanzar cared for her, so seeing Zanzar so open and trusting put a grin on Kahlan's face. It was just about then, that Kahlan realized they had better leave the forest quickly. Because now that she had escaped from the bandit camp, they would be looking for her.
It's best that we leave as soon as possible...those bandits must have been pretty mad when I had escaped. They are probably looking for us right now! Birgit...do you know of a place we could go, other than this forest? If so, let us make haste!
