Ryoto noted the silence that had fallen between himself and the dwarf and, in response to his lack of a quick reply, shifted uneasily, his eyes straying to the horizon instead of looking at the creature, ashamed of the look that he might be recieving; in truth, the knight felt quite foolish. Was it wrong of him to ask for such a thing after such a short aquaintance? As of now, the knight felt as though it was and therefore decided not to speak, allowing the silence to sink between them and grow. Sighing, the knight began to focus on the sun that had begun to rise above the ship; even if he wanted to speak, he was going to have to wait out of respect and reverence for the creature. If he had offended him, then he definately could not direct a single thought towards him until the other decided that it was time for him to respond.

Strangely enough, diplomacy was always a weakness of the knight's. Before his quest, it would have been normal to assume that the art of speech was not one of Ryoto's strong suits for that was why he had taken the position of knight, to protect and defend physically. However, now, after taking his current position as leader for his quest, one would believe that he should be good at such things. But in truth (and much to the misfortune of the crew) he was not; Ryoto had the ideas and words in his mind, but expressing them was not something that he was able to do well, as one might have figured, especially the dwarf as of now.

However, he had been successful in attaining Alyxandria's Starker's, and hopefully Anima's trust and that had to mean something. But as of now, Ryoto was not feeling too good about his ability as a diplomat. Unfortunately, and Ryoto knew this, he would have deal with many other situations such as this one, but he was willing to risk it, for peace was not an option; it was a way of life that had to be optained, not just dreamt about. Hopefully, he would come across creatures similiar to the dwarf, hybrid and the pixie. But with their help along with Tilliad's and Luke's, he knew that he would be able to do it; it was his destiny.

As Ryoto continued to stare into the sun, his mind lost in his thoughts, the knight finally heard the words of the dwarf in his mind. As he had expected, the dwarf did not take his request too keenely, for the first sentence rang loud and clear of what he believed 'Please forgive me if I seem rude...' However, the dwarf was quite polite and, the further they got on the subject, the more he became sure of it, until finally, the idea of testing the ability on the crew came to mind. Smirking, the human turned to face the dwarf. I am greatly indebted to you, o dwarf. My idea may have been strange, and in truth, a little unexpected, to you, but I do believe it is for the better good. However, I do agree with the importance of privacy and secrecy. Breaking into ones mind can be quite a compelling experience that can make one paranoid... believe me, I know. And I do agree with your idea about 'testing' the technique with Tilliad. I believe he would not object... especially if it is for the better of this mission. He has already risked his life for it and I am sure that he would be more than happy to contribute in another way possible. However, the knight paused before continuing, noticing the wheathered look of his features and the wheezing of his breathing, you do not seem to be in the position of doing such things now. I suggest that you regain your strength for a couple of days until your powers have rejuvinated. Even though I do not fully understand the mastery of magic, I do know that casting just one spell can cause great weariness to the user. And you alone have already used much since we first met. Therefore, I think I can safely say that this will not take effect for sometime. And during that time, you can think on it... maybe you might change your mind... if you do, I do believe that it will be for the better good...

Anima's eyes switched to a light green and her spiritual form looked up. She easily made it to her body, curling up into a ball before lowering herself back into her body. Her eyes slowly opened as she gave out a small yawn. She twitched her wing, it would at least take another day to grow it back. She sat there for a second, licking the pillow under her, she'd have to steal it for her notch in the wood.

Anima moved to the edge of the table, climbing down one of the legs. She pet Ein's head, easily waking the dog up. He gave out a bark as he nuzzled his little friend, happy she was still alive.

Anima laughed slightly, straddling herself to the dog's back, getting him to make his way to the deck. Ein gave out a bark to Ryoto, trying to get the human's attention.

The little pixie happily bathed in the sun's light, helping her to slowly gain energy to regrow her wing.

[[ Sorry for this one, guys. I took some sleeping pills, and I'm really out of it. I still really wanted to post, though. >.< ]]

With a sweet smile to Luke, she laughed slightly once more. "You're quite welcome." Alyxandria said in reply, tying off the rope she was working with securely, before wandering back to the series of rope piles near Luke. Taking another, she walked back over to the base of the mast, moving to the side opposite that she was just working on. Repeating the binding process, it took her but a few moments to complete the task of securing the new mast in it's place.

Dusting her hands off on one another, she stared up at where she'd need to rig the sails. However, that was a step for the evening, as she'd be freer to move about once the waters calmed. And that task would take every bit of hand-eye coordination she could muster.

Grabbing the largest of sails that lie, (instead of hanging from the mast) in a pile upon the deck, she moved to the steps that led to the helm of the vessel. Seating herself upon them, she pulled the sails over her legs like a blanket and eyed a lengthy rip in one of them with irritation. She'd get to stitching that promptly.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 06, 2007 1:27 am

Luke watched Alyxandria intently as she still went about fixing the mast. It almost amazed him at how fast she could move, how fast she could work, and with such detailed perfection.
Completely flawless. He thought, keeping his icy eyes locked onto her constantly moving figure. Then she sat down atop a hanging sail, and Luke advanced towards her, smiling weakly.

Seating himself beside her, he could feel the blush slowly fading, though the pink still tainted his face ever so slightly. "Hm. ...Nasty rip." Luke muttered, looking at it in a somewhat pained manner. It reminded him of his back, or what it must have been like before she helped him.
Probably... I'd probably be dead right now if it weren't for her. Oh, man... Luke's smile faded somewhat, only slightly. I'll never be able to repay her.

"Alyxandria." He said softly. "I just wanna... I want to thank you again. I'm in your debt for... Forever. As long as I live. Need a thing, give a holler."

Starker listened to the human's response. He felt a pang of guilt when Ryoto alluded to some paranoia as a result of Starker's mental exploration, and decided to let everyone know about the "emergency channel" as soon as he could, and then start building them mental shields, and maybe train them to make their own. It all depended on how much else there was to do.

And then the knight got to his misconception of Starker's powers. It was a common misconception, and very easy to associate the two, but it would be best in the long run if Starker were to quash this wrong idea before it got out of hand. He waited for the knight to finish his statements.

I hope you don't mind terribly, but allow me to correct one of your incorrect statements. What I do, my powers... they are not of magic. They are Psychotic instead of Thaumatic. I need not mutter any special words, position my hands in any certain way, or use any special material any more than you do to wear your armor or swing your sword. My telepathy comes as naturally to me as speaking to an orator. My telekinesis is to me as manual labor is to you. I will be perfectly fine after a decent meal or two and a good night's rest. A little sore, maybe, but otherwise perfectly able to perform any task. However, for the rest of today, I will only be able to perform minimal telekinesis. Fortunately, my telepathic ability is as affected by strenuous efforts as thinking is to you, so I will be able to communicate perfectly well in almost any circumstance. However, unless you have anything else to talk about, I would like to watch Alyxandria fix the mast. Skilled labor always has fascinated me. Oh, you've already figured this out, but I feel that it would be best to make it absolutely clear: though I am not in your mind, I can always hear thoughts directed at me, with or without a mental link. However, if you're too far away from me, I won't receive your thoughts. And now, if you'll excuse me...

With that, Starker turned and began to amble back to where Luke and Alyxandria were, ready to turn back to Ryoto if he should wish to ask or tell of something else from/to Starker. Starker ran his fingers across the knob of his walking stick. He would call it a cane, but he still was very young, and did have some self respect, and so would not stoop that far. It was a walking stick, and would remain a walking stick until he was into his 300s.

However, let us dwell on this walking stick. It is a singularly interesting walking stick, made of two different colored woods intertwined. There was a light yellow wood and a dark yellow wood, both of which were braided intricately. They tapered down at the end, and wrapped around a marble sphere at the top. Everything was smooth but not quite worn. The only thing it was missing was a glossy veneer.

It went clunk, clunk, clunk as he made his slow way towards Alyxandria and Luke.

The knight listened to the words of the dwarf in fascination and wonder. Never had he heard of such powers outside of fairy tales. But now, much like the pixie, another myth had come to life right before his very eyes. It would be a lie indeed, if, once he had died or ever survived to see the end of the queset he was now undertaking, one said he did not gain anything from his experiences away from the humans. For he was making friendships with those he never thought was possible and, not only that, but he was conversing with creatures that were only thought to be letters placed together in a certain order to create the name of a creature that only existed in ones mind. Outside of the pages in which the name resided, they were nothing, just the fragment of ones imagination. But there before him was one of them, a creature with telekinetic and telepathic abilities; it was quite amazing indeed.

After the dwarf had finished "speaking", Starker slowly turned and began to make his way towards Alyxandria and Luke in hopes of watching them fix the mast, or as he put it, watch them partake in skilled labor. Not wanting to say another word (so as not to disturb his short journey to the center of the ship where the rest of the crew resided), the knight instead turned back to the bow of the ship to look at the waves which surrounded the vessel. The view was quite remarkable. It had been only a few times when the knight had actually traveled upon the waters. For rarely had he been sent to fight battles across the channels. But now, he had the chance to see what was only possible to see from a ship such as the one he was on right now; the sight of the sea. Sighing, the knight closed his eyes, breathing in the air that drifted by him, pulling back his hair as it wafted through his strands.

The knight only opened his eyes when he heard a bark from behind him; it was no doubt Anima's corgi who had made the sound and the only way Ein would be on deck was if his pixie was with him. Immediately, the knight turned to face the small beast which stood before him, its tail wagging. Smiling, Ryoto made his way over to the corgi, soon bending down next to the beast so as to see the pixie more clearly. As he scratched behind Ein's ears, the knight looked down at Anima, soon noticing that she was missing one wing. "Your wing!" Exclaimed the knight. "You are severely injured! Is there anything that you need?" But before he could even move, the knight noticed the pixie's expression; it was a look of pure serenity. Was the situation under control? Or had she accepted her fate? However, if there was indeed a problem, Ein would most likely be making more of a scene than he already was. Relaxing, the knight remained by the dog's side, continuing to scratch behind the creature's ears. "Well, if you are fine, then I hope that you recover soon. I am sorry that you have gotten involved in my problem. But I am deeply indebted to you for saving my friend's life, Tilliad. You are truely a blessing..."

Anima looked up to Ryoto, smiling up to him. A small grren light shot from her back and quickly created the outline of a new wing. The green quickly disappeared, leaving a thin frame of some form of metallic element. The pixie carefully climbed from the corgi's back, scratching his ear just before she ran up Ryoto's arm. She placed her form onto the human's shoulder once more, now basking in the sun on his shoulder.

Ein looked up and watched her before slowly making his way to the cabin. He stopped and looked to Ryoto, giving out abark, wanting the human to follow behind him.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 06, 2007 9:23 pm

The knight watched as the pixie's wing began to heal before his very eyes. Smiling, Ryoto nodded, his body relaxing once he learned that Anima was not in danger or in any pain. "Well, I guess that answers my question, then." As he spoke, the knight stared in awe at the creature; the pixie was full of surprises. Just when he thought he had learned everything about her, something else happened, opening another realm to him. "You pixies sure are something. I don't think that you will ever cease to amaze me, Anima. It is quite a shame that my people have shunned your kind away, making you nothing more than legends... and you are certainly not a myth. No, you are so much more than that."

After the knight had spoken, the pixie quickly made her way up his arm until she had reached his shoulder. Once there, the pixie set herself upon it so that she could bask in the sun from a higher lever. Smirking, the knight stood to his feet (gently, so as not to upset Anima's balance) and began to make his way towards the rest of the group, when Ein began to bark. At first, the knight thought that the corgi was just barking at something it had spotted, like a bird of some sort. However, when the dog continued to do so insistantly, the knight turned toward the beast. As soon as his eyes made contact with the dog, it stopped barking and slowly made its way towards the cabin. Does it want me to follow...? Intrigued by the dog's actions, the knight made his way towards the beast.

There is something different about this corgi, thought Ryoto as he neared the dog. Not only because of its bond with the pixie... but, it seems to have an intelligence that regular dogs would not have... so, could it be a different race or has the pixie put a spell upon it? But of course, the knight would never know just by thinking... somehow, he would unlock the secret...

Alyxandria glanced upward at Luke as he made his way to her, pink-faced, and seated himself. He seemed to sit pensively for a few moments as she sat there calmly and quietly. Upon his gracious thank-you, she shook her head and smiled. "Don't worry about it. It comes with being allies. That kind of thing is on the house." Her smile then broadened slightly as she patted his back, above where he'd been injured, and rose to her feet.

However, she didn't walk away as her gaze moved onto Starker. The sound of his walking stick against the deck couldn't be mistaken for anything else. Watching as he approached, she wondered what was going through his mind, for she knew that he could, if he so wished, dip into her thoughts whenever he wished. Though it was a slightly disturbing thought, she accepted it. Ryoto, after all, seemed to trust him... and thusfar he'd proven himself a decent judge of character.

Except for the whole... "Sam" incident. However, the blame could lie on none but the betrayer in that situation.

As I, Starker's Narrator, have mentioned before, Starker could see minds. Depending on the species of the mind, they were different "shapes" (we'll use terms that the average person can understand for Starker's vision of minds). Depending on how focused and sharp the mind was determined how cloudy or dense that shape was. For example, a snake's mind was angular and bright, whereas a human's was sort of puffy and somewhat undefined. Depending on what was on the mind at the time, the mind appeared different "colors". Hopes had a sky bluish tint, envy an emerald green, and you can probably guess how bloodlust was colored. So without even looking into a given mind, he could make a decent guess on how it was feeling.

And as he approached, Alyxandria's mind seemed to be the soft lemony light of mild apprehension. Guessing that he was the reason of apprehension based on the arrival of the color about the same time as she sensed his approach, Starker figured that she was concerned about his ability to dip in and out of minds as he pleased without the slightest indicator, especially if you weren't looking for one. With a slight mental sigh at the lack of trust (which was probably a wise decision on her part, as much as Starker may have disliked it), Starker decided to clear things up between the lot of them. As he walked, he sent a message to both Luke and Alyxandria.

The color of Alyxandria's consciousness alerts me to the fact that I may not completely have both of your trust yet, that you are apprehensive of my ability to read minds at a whim, that you are afraid that you no longer have any secrets. Please allow me to put that fear to rest. As with all sentient creatures, I have a code of ethics. There are things that I will and will not do, with exceptions for extreme circumstances. One thing that I will not do is simply read your mind at any given time. I will usually to almost always ask permission first. I can see how you are feeling, but that's not a unique trait. Body language and tone of voice does the same thing for the normally sighted. So you have your secrets as long as you wish to keep them. However, I am not completely deaf to your thoughts. There is one way that you can communicate with me using your mind instead of your tongue that I will always hear. If you direct a given thought towards me, I will hear it. If you speak aloud, I will hear it. My ears still function. He paused to allow this verbosity to sink fully into their minds. That being said, I wish to watch you finish working on the mast and sails. May I do so, or is this a bad time?

Ein walked to the cabin door before stopping and looking to the side. His ears stood erect as his attention was quickly brought to a seagull. He gave out a slight whimper as he slowly made his way, watching the bird land on the railing.

Anima watched her dog, easily climbing ontop of Ryoto's head, He's hungry... I could use something too... She gave out a weak sigh, resting on her stomach, watching Ein.

Ein had made it to the bird and watched it closely. The bird hadn't noticed the dog until it looked down. The bird gave out aloud screech as it jumped away, missing the dog's attack. Ein landed on the railing, barking up to the seagull, slowly turning his attention back to the human. He carefully walked along the wood just before jumping down and walking up to Ryoto. The dog sat down at the human's feet, giving out a loud whimper.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 07, 2007 8:15 pm

Ryoto watched as the dog chased after the seagull the best it could. However, due to the fact that the creature had wings, the bird was able to escape the claws of the four-legged beast. It was almost comedic, seeing Ein try so hard; it was quite adorable. However, after looking into the corgi's eyes and in the way it looked at the bird, Ryoto knew that it was hungry. Sighing, Ryoto made his way to the dog, but instantly stopped. Had he heard something? Standing in his tracks, the human began to look around him, confused by what had just occured. He had felt as though a female had just spoken, but at the same time, he did not hear anything. He knew that it was definately not Alyxandria, for her voice could never be missed due to the accent which flowed within the syllabels of which word she muttered. If it was not Alyxandria, then it had to be the pixie who now resided on his head.

Amazed, the knight looked up the best he could to try and spot the pixie known as Anima. However, due to the fact that she was in his hair, he could not spot her. Giving up, the knight brought his gaze back before him... leaving him to his thoughts. It was quite strange. Even though he did not actually hear her words, Ryoto knew that she and Ein were hungry and needed food badly. Had he just imagined it? Was it just a feeling which made him believe that they were famished? Of course, it had to be. He had seen the hunger in the corgi's eyes. Therefore, his mind made him believe that he heard a voice telling him that she and her dog were hungry. Yes, that had to be it.

However, as the moments passed, it became quite obvious to the human that she had spoken to him in some way. It was not telepathically like the dwarf, however. There was something different in the way in which she had communicated with him, but there was no doubt that she had spoken to him, telling him of their current condition. But then why had she not spoken or tried to communicate with him before? Shaking his head, the knight turned to the rest of the crew. There was no way that he could find that out. He, of course, could not find out by asking her, for he did not know in which way she had done so with him. So, for now, he would have to do as she wished... As the knight prepared himself to speak to the others, a thought came to mind. Can she only communicate with me? If she can with the others, she could have easily asked the Captain for food. However, since she did not, then that must have been because she could not... but then why me...?

Not wanting to dwell on the subject any further (due to the fact that Anima and Ein were starving), the knight spoke to the captain, making his way towards her first so that shouting would not have to be needed. "Captain, I believe that the pixie and her dog are hungry. Is there some food that they could have...?"

Alyxandria almost stopped breathing as Starker's voice once again found it's way into her mind. It was almost as if she were thinking in his voice. His gesture was greatly appreciated, much to even the young captain's surprise. She hadn't expected to make such a great leap as far as trust went simply because he assured her. Though she still didn't fully place her trust in him, his 'words' had helped in the matter. Speaking aloud, as he had instructed, her oh-so-recognizable accent came forth. "Thank you, Starker. Though I don't believe I fully trust your immense power as of yet, I realize you mean well and do what you are able." She left it at that, before turning to the steps that led down into the ship's innards. "And you're more than welcome to watch, if you like. I believe Luke is doing so as well." She mused.

About to walk down into the larger, more homey areas of the vessel, she was met by Ryoto on his way up. She assumed he'd been in one of the cabins below. Somewhat surprised that he'd been able to determine the pixie's desire, she simply nodded in response. 'I suppose she does make it quite apparent when she wants something...' She thought, remembering her dive from the seagulls and her attempt to use Ryoto as shelter. 'Still...'

Shaking the thoughts from her mind, she moved down the steps and down the narrow pathway that could have been called a sort of 'hallway'. Though a few cabins, a sort of galley, and a dining area lined it's sides, there were two larger storage areas at the hall's end. "Food and the like are on the left. Anyone on the ship is welcome to anything in there at any given time." She said with a faint smile. Moving into the chamber on the right, Alyxandria faced a rather large storage area for supplies and weaponry.

Drawing a special kind of stitching thread for the sails, she emerged and headed back topside, the large spool in her hand.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:00 am

Ryoto followed the captain down into the depths of the ship, with Anima still spread out upon his brown locks which flowed down around his face. For some reason, Alyxandria seemed troubled by something; he could sense it in the way in which she moved and later spoke. However, there was no way in which he would be able to convey his thoughts on the matter, for it was of her own and not his matter to dwell on. Perhaps she would want the comfort of anothers words, however, it would most likely only be welcomed when she asked for it. If he brought up the subject on his own accord, she would no doubt become angry, not at him, but at herself for being able to be read so well by another who had only known her for less than two days. Despite the fact that it was only an exppression that was read, it had the ability tear apart ones belief in their own strength and will... dampening their spirits and making one become weak. No, he would not speak of it. She was already volunerable, for her ship had been attacked by a creature that was attracted by their strong spirit of unity, wishing to break it. Already, in less than a day, she was tasting the blood of the path of which she chose when she accepted Ryoto onto her ship. He would keep silent.

After she had shown the room in which their food provisions were stored, the knight bowed to her in thanks, muttering a few words of his gratitude before turning from her, wishing not to take up anymore of her time. There had to be much going on in her mind, already. Therefore, no more would he burden her thoughts with his petty virtues of etiquette and protocol. Then, closing the door behind him (after letting Ein in behind him), the knight turned to the many barrels and packages and waved his hand in its direction. "Here is the food that we are allowed to feed from," said the knight. "Of which would you like?"

Of course, Ryoto was not expecting an answer, especially in the way she had communicated with him before. However, the knight trusted that the dog would no doubt choose for the pixie. As he waited for one of them to act, the knight placed a hand on his stomach, feeling his intestines growl from underneath his chest plate. It was then that the knight realized that he had nothing to eat for the past three days except for berries they had found on the trail. It would probably be wise for him to eat as well. And in that case, since he was hungry, the crew would also be as well.... "Might as well since I am already here..."

Luke stared at Starker as he approached, a moment later, the dwarf's message entering his own mind.
I thank you for letting me know such, Starker.
Luke, though, had never even taken into account the immense power that Starker held. It is kind of you to let us know this. And hopefully Lady Alyxandria will be more at ease now.
Then, no longer speaking to Starker Verstand, Luke kept thoughts to himself. He's amazing, really. No eyes, no speach... Yet look at this. He must be more powerful than I had even imagined at first. Here, a low sigh passed through the youth's lips.
I need to be... Less open. Less trusting. I'm no good. All right. Shake it off.

Luke grinned at Starker and nodded to him, patting the side of him that Alyxandria had not been sitting on before she left to retrieve materials for the mast. She rejoined them momentarily.
"I would suppose there's nothing I could do to help..." Luke said softly as he watched her with the spool.
Of course not. You don't even know how to sew, idiot.
With another, heavier sigh, Luke put his left elbow on his knee, and put his forehead in his hand, staring at the wood of the deck.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid."
The repeated word was unheard, almost even to Luke.
