Orin was crossing the street when it happened. The headache suddenly went away. Must be the drugs, he thought, his mind now free from the roaring pain. Cheerfully shoving his hands into his pockets, he crossed the road and walked towards the trendy burger joint, unaware that his metal barriers had, in fact, crumbled.

It took nearly everything that the telepath had to fool his prey into thinking that they were as strong as ever. If anyone were to brush their mind against Orin's they'd know instantly that his barriers were gone, and they'd be able to trace it back to his stalker, but that was the risk. The telepath knew that, but didn't care. After all, Orin was the prey, and the hunter always gets the prey.

Loreno listened to Niro talk, watching with mild interest. Huh...go figure. So it shrunk objects....certainly explained a little, that's for sure. He ignored the little chuckle that Niro gave though, as well as the time out comment. He figured the guy was joking around a bit...or at least hoped so. He would not be happy being put in a pocket that shrinks him. He did raise an eyebrow as Niro began talking about time continuims. He shook his head before replying.

"Not sure what you mean by feeling something....but I am feeling uneasy. Have been for a bit...ever since we seperated from Orin, in fact...and as for knowing my future, even if you could tell me...well, I'd prefer to be surprised anyway."

He paused when Niro began speaking of the alleyway detour, and thought about it for a moment...hmm. From his understanding, the burger joint wasn't that far away...what was another couple minutes to go a slightly longer way? He nodded once before heading towards the alley...figuring if he could stop time, then surely Niro could keep up with his speed...or hell, even beat him there. As soon as he was in the alleyway and out of view from the eyes of those passing by, he became little more than a blur of black....a blur that was rather hard to follow with one's eyes, at that. This blur would stop and seem to suddenly reform into Loreno at the other end, a mere second later when it likely would have takent he average man about ten seconds to run the entire distance at full speed. He then simply continued his way to the burger joint, halfway expecting to see Niro sitting at a table when he got there...whatever Niro had mentioned being an event they didn't have time for, he was sure he avoided quite easily. Not like he was really detecting any strange thoughts from whatever had been ahead of them...but...well, he was still quite hungry and didn't want to be delayed. Thus, the detour was taken. Whether Niro was there or not, he would at least get in line to order the food...he already knew what to get Orin, and he knew what he wanted for himself. He was sure Niro would pop up in time to get whatever he wanted, as well.

"Right on time." Niro chuckled as about a minute later there were several gunshots from somewhere ahead of them, if they had continued on the path they were heading they would have been right in the middle of it. "Another drug deal gone bad, typical of Humans." Niro once again slipped in a time stop, found Orin and then flicked it back to normal. He figured Loreno had never noticed the time pause in his crazy sprints. "Loreno will probably arrive at the joint in a few seconds. However, we have another bunch of gun idiots running about near the food place. So I decided to make sure nothing happened to you, since stupider things have happened." Niro seemed to have just appeared beside him; as if it was totally normal to do such things. "I see you were successful in your endeavor." Niro mentally agreed with Loreno, both of them were uneasy and something was nagging Niro.

'Where'd you... Never mind," Orin shook his head, becoming less and less surprised at Niro's antics. "There's always some group of people running around with guns somewhere. And what's with this sudden protective streak? I assume you don't go around protecting all the humans you meet, right? I mean, nothing's going to happen to me, right?" He asked, suddenly becoming afraid. "I'm not going to get shot and killed by those guys with guns, am I?"

The telepath was puzzled by the man's sudden appearance, but decided to hang back in the crowd on the opposite side of the street. Not knowing the full extent of Niro's powers, the telepath felt that invading his mind would be a horrid idea. That, and it would alert Niro of the fact that Orin was being stalked.

Interesting...so it seemed neither Niro nor Orin were at the burger joint just yet. Ah, well. He waited patiently in line, only to hear gunshots in the distance as he got close to the front. He furrowed his brows as he scanned the thoughts of those nearby...seemed no one knew what it was, and fear began spreading a bit through the burger joint. He sighed...looks like he was next. Hopefully, Niro would eat whatever Loreno got for him. He spoke before the cashier even had time to ask what he wanted, quickly scanning the menu above their heads as he spoke.

"A number six, with a Coke...a number two, also with a Coke...and a number five, with a Sprite...easy one the ice for that one."

As soon as the opportunity arose, he pulled out the card Orin had given him earlier, and swiped it...proceeding to punch in "8158" when prompted to enter the PIN number. Once the cashier handed him the reciept, he would walk off to the side a little bit and wait for the food to be ready...hopefully Niro and Orin would be here by the time it was. Though he supposed it would kind of be their own faults if the food was cold by the time they got here.

"Well you see Orin, before I got into your life. You were writing that lovely test and so you didn't. Though you did have to endure a terribly boring drill while these idiots were rounded up." Niro again pulled out the watch and checked it. "So you see, now you're not where you should be. So quite possibly yes you could be, since it is the fault of myself for appearing to you. Thus, changing your time line and making it fork in a different direction as I was just explaining to Loreno. Therefore, I don't know if you will or wont get shot if I left you alone. Rather then take a chance, I decided to make sure you were safe."

He tucked away the watch again. "No, in truth, I kill humans. I can't help it, I control time. Time kills people, that is the way it is Orin. Eventually I decided I was also Death and so created a creature powerful enough to slaughter billions and set her upon mankind. She did exactly like she was supposed to and in time her descendants also become my creatures. The other Oracles, especially Ashra the Death Oracle, got pissed with me. I was stripped of my magic and tossed down here to learn something." Niro grinned.

"Course I knew all this and so made the watch. You are officially, the first human I met. So not I certainly don't. I do feel responsible for screwing up your life. Perhaps, I can keep you safe enough that once I learn whatever I am supposed to and get my powers back, you can go back to living your mostly boring life." He turned down a street that was in the opposite direction of where they were heading. "Since they are fleeing and the cops are hunting them, it would be best to avoid being there for a few minutes. So we shall take a roundabout route and keep out of everyone's way." It seemed to be a very good plan.

Orin winced at the gunshots. "Just between so you know," he whispered, "I think we're being followed. There's a very heavy person following us- since you popped in next to me. I don't know what he or she looks like, but they kind of smell like gunpowder. "

The telepath nearly shat its pants when it learned that Orin both heard and smelled someone following him, but relaxed when Orin described their stalker.

The man Orin had described was overly muscled and carried a freshly fired handgun, and had a scowl plastered on his face. By scanning his mind, the telepath learned that he was going to take both Orin and the other man hostage and use them as bargaining chips if the cops found him. Oh, this will never do. No, no, no... The telepath told the man through his mind. You'll leave MY Orin alone. If you so much as touch him, you'll find that a gunshot fired into your body via your large intestines is extremely painful. Best turn yourself in before I turn you inside out.

The overly buff man stopped in his tracks, the outside thoughts highly compelling. He turned around and marched himself to the nearest police officer, shoved his gun into the cop's hands, and surrendered peacefully.

It caused such a commotion that it drew Orin's attention. "That was the guy who was following us. Huh, well, now that he's gone, can we go eat now? I'm starving."
