it's about time i read the chronicles of Narnia again, i adore that sort of book, aimed at an old enough child to not be twee, but still not old enough to contain the violence present in some adult books, i always cry when i read these books too!

if you want to read them it's best to do them in order, The Magician's Nephew is the first book, and it's great 3nodding

Here is another hint about the Aubergine One....

I have read the Chronicles of Narnia since I was a child! I adore them.

HOWEVER, please please PLEASE read them in the order C.S. Lewis intended! I don't know who bought rights to the books, but they have reordered them. The FIRST book is, of course, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe!

If anyone is interested, this plump purkle plant will return and post the proper order of the books, since this rubbish of ordering them chronologically just doesn't make sense to the storyline!

In case you haven't noticed, I have a WICKED pet peeve about this! Muwahahaha!

tsk tsk oh aubergine one, the first book is most definitely the Magician's Nephew as it tells the tale of the creation of Narnia.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was published first, way back in 1950, the Magician's Nephew wasn't printed until 1955, but, out of the 7 books, only the final book The Last Battle was written after it, the others came in no particular order, obviously as inspiration struck.
i have a box set and the order that they are in is this :~

1.The Magician's Nephew (1955)
2.The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (1950)
3.The Horse and his Boy (1954)
4.Prince Caspian (1951)
5.Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1955)
6.The Silver Chair (1953)
7.The Last Battle (1956)
this arrangement makes the most sense when you read them

when i was at school i read the Silver Chair over and over again, i even got a fine from the school library because i had it out for too long, it was a huge ammount too...2 pence! surprised

i'm horribly afraid that the Chonicles of Narnia film will annoy and disappoint me as much as, and if not more than Lord of the Rings, because the chronicles have been with me from a much earlier age and you can lose yourself in them totally, i'm definitely going to have to read them all again now blaugh
i love having the box set but i much prefer reading the older printings that i have from the 70's, i wonder why that is, i really like old books, i love the way they smell

Tsk, don't knock 'em til you see 'em! You might be surprised. As far as I knew, you haven't even given LOTR movies a chance yet.

i have seen bits of lord of the rings, and what i saw i wasn't that impressed with as they missed such huge chunks of plot out, i know that with a book that size it's inevitable that parts will be dropped, but i think that for people who didn't already know the story some of it may have been confusing as there wasn't much explaination for some of the things that you saw, also i hear they totally missed out Tom Bombadil which is a crime in my opinion. i also didn't like the way they portrayed Galadriel, or the hobbits, don't know why they made them so human, my Mum says Gandalf's fight with the balrog in Moria was fabulous, but i didn't see that bit rolleyes
i have seen a clip of the chronicles of Narnia, only a very short one mind, but Aslan looked good, because they're shorter books they should be able to follow the story more faithfully, also i have seen a televised adaptation of the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe and that was very good, so i may have been a little hasty in my pre-judgement, i expect i will like it, especially as it will be aimed more at children and productions with a (mainly) younger audience in mind are generally good fun to watch

Just make sure you watch ALL THREE LOTR movies, all the way through, and pay attention. THEN you can judge.

I have two inlaws who don't care to see Gladiator all the way through because they were tired when they saw it the first time and they fell asleep. I say, if they'd just WATCH it and pay attention, they'd like it.

i sort of saw Gladiator, it was on TV but it didn't hold my attention at all, so i have no opinion on that either way rolleyes

I suppose I am just odd... I can happily READ epic type stories (even considering 'Memoirs of a Giesha' believe it or not, but I can NOT watch movies unless they are funny... for that matter, I often cannot sit through a TV show that is longer than 30 minutes unless I really love it. *VERRRRY short attention span*
