A woman in a pair of heels clicked her way down the hall, checking a clipboard as she walked. B238. Her first actual assignment since Waking. She probably should be excited or something, at least, something in her mind told her that she should. But that nagging feeling, persona, reflection, mirage, whatever you wanted to call it, of the woman who had been her before was only an irritating distraction now. She was Lucretia now, and she needed to get work done.

Opening the antechamber to the sealed room, Lucretia took a moment to regard the still unconscious vampire fastened to a table the next room over. A move she instantly regretted doing so, as it gave rise to a sudden burst of images of the Black-Haired Man and feelings towards him that did not belong to her. The sound of her clipboard clattering to the floor as it slipped out of her distracted hands was loud enough to chase away the mental noise and gave the scientist/experiment time to clear her mind. Back to B238. The subject was in need of monitoring after her latest escapade and resultant gassing. She sat down at a table facing a window into the room and began her work with the white noise of beeping computers chasing away any unwanted thoughts.

A headache. A pounding, throbbing, irritating headache was what Arina had to wake up to. The noise that had woken her had actually been the sound of the door...She felt like she was in a fog; she was awake, but couldn't process anything outside herself at the moment...She moved to put her hands on her head, to try and stave off some of the pain, only to find that she was pinned down. At once she snapped her eyes open, forcing the haze to dissipate.

She realized then that she hadn't woken up in her usual cell...It wasn't dark. It wasn't cold....this was odd. Why hadn't she? And more over, why was she restrained? Normally she had time to rest...Was something different about this time...?

"What's going on...?"she said, more to herself than anyone else...Her mouth was dry...not like that was unusual...Then she realized she was in front of a window...With someone she hadn't seen before on the other side. "Who are you?" was the next question she asked. Something about this woman seemed....familiar. She noticed when the woman looked up...She had the same face Arina had once seen in a file on the Shin-Ra database...Of course, she didn't remember the experience, not what she was looking for, how she had found it, or even how she had managed to get the opportunity to look for it...Just a picture on a computer screen.

She had been trying to find information on Vincent, and had searched for "Doctor Crescent"...It had listed her as dead. Surely, Arina would have thought this new experience strange if she had remembered more than just the face in front of her...But that wasn't the case. "What's going on...?"She asked again, now directed at the woman she thought she might have remembered.

She was pulling on her restraints, trying to get up...But she felt like crap...even worse than usual, despite the "meal"...Her muscles ached. That was when she remembered the gas in the training room...God...She had almost eaten A233...She hoped he was okay...He was the only connection she still had to a life that wasn't full of pain...A life she didn't remember almost at all any more...But what scraps of that life she did still have, she was going to cling to...She didn't want to lose those...and no one, not the woman on the other side of that glass, not Hojo, no one, was going to take them from her.

Yeah, he was upset. He was pissed. He was so angry he could almost cry. Of course, he wouldn't give Hojo or anyone the satisfaction of seeing such a pathetic sight, since all he'd been since after he'd been broken down time and time again: pathetic. And suddenly his anger was more at himself being weak than at Touscon's sudden realization, or the fact that she had tricked him here, or that he was about to go through hell and back again.

The thoughts scrambling inside his head as he was being dragged into the chamber with the screaming blonde were becoming more and more uplifting, despite their depressing demeanor. If he did survive this piece of s**t place, he was going to kill all of these mother ********. And he was going to live. And he was going to beat the s**t out of Rude for not finding him, even though he knew the bald man was probably doing the best of his abilities, but jokes aside... He was going to get through this, whether anyone liked it or not, and he was going to tell Touscon a thing or two when he did.

Reno opened his eyes, but he suddenly wished he hadn't. He looked, terrified, at the scared, tortured woman strapped to the table. He jerked against his captors' hands, but he couldn't get any closer, and before much else could happen, after she pleaded for help, from him, she was out cold. He looked over at Hojo with disgust, thinking she was either dead or was going to be, and the only thing he could think of now was that, maybe, she was going to wake up as some killer fighting machine, and beat the bloody pulp out of him.

Why else would he be in this ******** cell anyway? And with her, no less. Little miss innocent, I'm gonna kill you? "I hate this ********' mystery bullshit, yo. What's the goddamn test already?" I'm not scared of you ******** anymore. You've already sucked everything out of me, what the ******** is there left to be scared of?!
I'm in the same prison as you... User Image

Even before B238 tried speaking, the various instruments that were connected to her relayed information back to Lucretia, betraying her state of consciousness. The scientist watched disinterestedly as the B238's heart rate jumped when she began to take notice of her surroundings. Lucretia continued to collect readings silently for a few moments, until B238 began asking questions. She should really just ignore her, but her hand still reached over to flick on the intercom, almost of its own accord.

"You're in Observation for further monitoring and testing. The Professor has been gracious enough to hand you over to me in an attempt to get your limits under control." Even as she said that, more images of the Black-Haired Man surfaced in her mind. Vincent. She had been trying to do the same in him. No, not her. The other Lucretia. The dead one. The one who had wasted her chance.

She felt something in the back of her throat, like she was going to be sick. She needed to distract herself. Chase Vincent and all those memories that weren't hers away. Shaking her head slightly, Lucretia blinked and recorded some more figures on computer, then stood up and opened the door to the observation room with a passkey. Walking over to Arina's side, the scientist donned a pair of gloves and removed an IV starter from a side table.

"Now hold still." The warning was mostly superfluous, as B328 was strapped to the table, but she said it anyways as she jabbed a needle into the subject's arm.

More testing. Fabulous...She should have figured...It never seemed like she was done being poked and prodded...Even in the "down time" she had in her cell, she was sore from their efforts to turn her into a pin cushion. But they were trying to control her limits? Arina laughed...They were stubborn. She doubted they would ever submit to the will of someone like Hojo, or this woman.

"Well, good luck with that....Maybe once you figure out it isn't going to happen, I'll get some peace..."she mumbled, not paying any particular attention to the window anymore, until she heard the door to her section of the room slide open. That wasn't normal...She hadn't seen that robotic Raven in there...and the Lab Techs almost never came in on their own...This woman was unusual...

Arina watched the Scientist reach for the IV..."Hey...What are you doing?" she didn't like the look of the needle. She tried to move, to avoid the stab of the metal skewer, but restrained as she was, she couldn't make even a little leeway. "What the hell are you doing?"she asked again, not actually expecting a legitimate answer, but none the less wanting to try.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 20, 2009 4:18 pm

"Putting in an IV." Lucretia replied distractedly. "It'll go faster if you stop moving." Despite B328's wriggling, she was able to jab the needle in her arm and tape the IV port in place. Next she retrieved a syringe of a rather sinister looking liquid. She wordlessly injected the contents of the syringe into the IV port and B328's arm then flushed the port with a syringe of saline. Now to wait for the anesthesia to take effect. While waiting, Lucretia flipped through her notes and objective, even if she already knew the information printed on the sheets. She simply needed something to do.

"Yeah, that's not what I want to know. I want to know what you plan to do with it,"She snapped in reply, already irritated. She flinched a little as the needle went in, and was a little annoyed with the tape, since it pulled just a little...She hated IV's. Every time someone thought she needed one here, they always got the tape too tight...It pulled on her skin uncomfortably. Of course, that was quickly forgotten when she saw the second syringe.

"Get that thing away from me," she growled the words slightly, not liking the color of its contents. Of course, her protests made absolutely no difference in her situation. Before even enough time had passed for a response to even be plausible, the strange solution had been pushed through the IV...She waited a minute, wondering exactly what was going to happen....Wondering just what that injection would do to her...When she started to feel sleepy...

Her eyelids started to droop, and she shook her head, trying to stave off the lethargy...She didn't want to sleep...Arina managed to keep off unconsciousness, but only just...Her limbs felt like led. She couldn't even manage to flex her fingers..."What...what did...?"she was trying to wonder what this woman planned to do now that she was decidedly numb...but she couldn't manage to get the words out.

"It was supposed to be a general anesthesia, but apparently you're able to resist the full effects." She moved down to B238's lower arms and lightly scraped her wrists and pricked her fingertips with a pin, looking for a reaction. "Did you feel any of that?" Lucretia was not rewarded with an answer, but took the subject's silence as a 'no'. Satisfied with that, she walked back over to the table and began to retrieve the supplies necessary for the implantation and placed them on a small tray. She donned a surgical mask and buttoned up her lab coat. The tray was then wheeled over to B328's side.

In it, and the first thing Lucretia took out, was the color-coded Raven collar and corresponding chip, which she fastened to B238's neck. Next she moved down to the subject's left arm securing it with several additional straps and cleaning off the skin with alcohol and iodine. She produced a small scalpel, made a small incision into B328's upper arm and carefully inserted a small piece something that resembled materia into the cut. She worked it deep under the skin so that it wouldn't be easily removable without inflicting considerable pain. Then she withdrew and quickly sewed the skin back together, with hands that acted almost of their own accord again. It felt like she had done this dozens of times, and yet she had never picked up a scalpel once until now. It was all from her, Lucretia knew. She didn't know whether to be thankful or not. Maybe for the time being she'd just settle for being grateful that she had something to work on and keep herself distracted.

She inserted two more pieces of materia in similar fashion into her left arm before finishing up. While Lucretia didn't think that three small pieces of the artificial proto-materia would be enough to control B328, she wanted to see if they would have any sort of effect. She cleaned up the subject, rechecking the stitches and loosening the extra restraints she had put in place, though she left the collar on. Satisfied with her work on B328, she pulled off the now-bloody gloves and stuffy mask and threw both in the trash before walking back over to the computer terminal to enter in information.

General anesthesia? Anything that was going to come of such a thing that Arina could imagine was not good. If the scientist knew that it was going to numb her, why the hell had she bothered to ask if the captive could feel anything...Arina had decided not to acknowledge that kind of a question with a response...That was when she spotted the surgical supplies.

"What are you...?" Arina realized that she was starting to sound like a broken record, but somehow, even with all that had happened in the last few months, she was still completely surprised to have someone preparing to operate on her while she was conscious. She tried to maneuver her head away from the woman with the weird looking collar, but it didn't seem to want to move. Soon the metal was locked around her neck, much to Arina's displeasure.

More straps were used to pin her down. The ex-Turk couldn't feel the blade entering her arm, but she knew it was...She couldn't feel the bit of materia being inserted into the wound, but she could feel the pressure..."Tell me what you are doing,"This time, it wasn't a request. She was demanding the knowledge...Apparently her little snack had added a little fuel to the fire that was her resistance....Of course, the doctor went about her work without so much as a mutter of a response...Fine. Arina would just have to keep asking.

She repeated the process twice more, stitching up the wounds as she went...The anesthetic was starting to wear off by the time the scientist had finished...As the stitches were cleaned, it stung a little bit...She flexed her fingers lightly, this time, feeling the numbness receding just enough to allow the movement...The doctor began to walk away, tossing the gloves and mask as she went, but then continued off. "Hey...Hey! Tell me what you just did!"she demanded as she began attempting to struggle once more (or as much as her still-mostly-anesthetized body would allow), not really liking that she wasn't being answered.

Lucretia sighed. "I implanted some artificial proto-materia. It was something I..." She stopped abruptly. "It was something that was experimented with in the past. B328 at least got the satisfaction of her eyes widening slightly when she realized that the anesthesia was already wearing off for her. She had really expected that between being gassed and now being drugged, she'd be set back more then this.

"You put materia into me? What for?" Arina didn't understand what cause there could possibly have been for such an experiment...What would it do? She had heard of people absorbing materia before...at least...she thought so...But never having it implanted directly in...What purpose could it possibly serve? She didn't understand how that could have managed to do anything at all...

She flinched a little, feeling something odd...The incision sites were already starting to heal up around the stitches...That was quick. Unusually quick...even for her...Arina could actually feel the stitches dissolving...She couldn't understand it...Weren't these things supposed to last for something like two weeks...? She expected it to be at least a week for her...Providing that she was right about what she remembered about herself...

All the while she was contemplating it, she didn't notice anything especially unusual...Until she looked up. For some reason, the woman was surprised. She had never seen that in an AVALANCHE member, as far as she had seen...or...Arina shook her head. Why now, of all times, was she doubting her memories so strongly? She didn't remember a damn thing...Not anything....There was nothing outside this place....

Hojo stood in silence. It was hard to decipher the red haired mans actions, his reasoning – everything about the specimen was puzzling. In fact that was just it. He was a puzzle.

Hojo quickly pressed the intercom button, allowing his voice to enter the room below. “I have come to a decision A233.” He began, his lips were slightly pursed as he spoke before he quickly shut the intercom off and made his way down from the observation room and to the steel door that held the subjects inside. Pulling out his keycard he quickly slid it through the slot and proceeded to open the door. “Please, walk with me.” He held the door lightly for A233. Of course confusion riddled the man’s expressions, even followed by the chance of freedom – though surely A233 realized that he would hardly get anywhere if he decided to run. So he merely followed the crazed scientist in suit.

“You have proven your worth. At first I was beginning to believe you to be a lost cause, but you managed to pull through. Thus, you’ve earned a little something. A thank you perhaps, from my staff as well as myself. We do hope you will be willing to move forward with your training.” Hojo led the red haired man down a few sets of corridors before coming to a stop outside of a room that also bore the same keypad. With ease he slid the card once more proceeding to open the door for him, and allowing him passage through. Once inside Hojo reached over to turn the knob that was located on the right hand side of the entry way.

The room immediately filled with light; and it was easy to tell this was an actually room if not a small apartment or similar to that. There was a small twin bed with white blankets draped over the end. At the top was a small pillow. Next to such was a nightstand, of course the furniture itself was not immaculant, but to someone who has had nothing it would be extrodinary. Off to the right was a table, perhaps used for paperwork but on top of such was a tray that held a decent selection of edible food as well as a glass of water off to the side. Also on the corner of that table was a set of clothes laid out, followed by a towel. Hojo motioned for Reno to help himself before proceeding to speak once more. “If you will please shower and eat I will send someone back to take a look at those injuries. We will have you patched up then, and if you wish we can go into the training further.”

It was with that Hojo left, proceeded to find a guard that was in the vicinity. He gave strict orders for LR-002 to be returned to her quarters and that Touscon be brought to A233. As well he ordered Lucrecia to be located and given instructions to introduce the B328 to LR-002 and move to the next project.

"To gain a better control of your limits." The scientist responded distractedly as her fingers flitted over the keyboard, entering the observations of B328 and pulled up some additional information on the subject. "You're still healing so fast, even despite the artificial proto-materia." Lucretia commented, more to herself then to Arina. At least this unexpected turn of events was serving as a distraction to keep her mind occupied. So occupied that she didn't hear the guard first call her over the intercom from the adjoining observation room. Only when he entered did she finally look away from the computer and B328.

He led her out of the room to explain Hojo's latest orders and out of earshot of the subject. When she returned, Lucretia looked expressionless. Woodenly, she asked Arina, "Has the anesthesia worn off completely yet?"
PostPosted: Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:45 pm

Arina laughed a little to herself...One materia, that they thought could control her limits? That was what her golden arm band had always been for...It never really worked as well as it had been intended to; the limits still popped out whenever they thought they were at risk. "Well...Good luck with that one,"she said to the scientist, a little bit offhandedly. She really didn't think much at all of this new development....No, she would believe it when she experienced it first hand...If, she ever did...Artificial proto-materia....proto-materia....that sounded so strangely familiar, but she just....couldn't place it...

That was when the guard's voice came in through the intercom...He called for the scientist's attention at once, and when she ignored him, came in to get her...Surely, the guard was overly confident....probably a rookie....but he looked experienced; world-weathered...or at the very least, very traveled...But he showed no signs of caution, no signs of the smallest thought that she might be dangerous...that wasn't normal...Apparently, the Masters were confident that she wasn't a threat after the surgery....

Arina waited, wondering what was next up on the list of irritating tests they were going to run on her...As Lucretia returned, she was immediately posed with another question...The restrained woman paused a moment, coming to the realization that, yes, for the most part, it had...She felt as though she would be a little weak on her feet, but could definitely move...and she hadn't even been trying. "Not completely...I've still got a little residual numbness...but....why do you ask?" Arina was curious...Surely the scientist wasn't just asking as a matter of the subject's comfort...Maybe she was to be kept anesthetized?...Arina really hoped not...but what other explanation was there?

Lucretia's face was void of any emotion and her voice flat. "Then apparently I can give you a full dose minimum of sedative without you suffering ill effects." She walked over a set of drawers and removed a syringe. Mutely, and ignoring any protests from the subject, she jabbed the needle into Arina's arm. When finished, she disposed of the needle in a bright orange sharps container and turned to face the guard watching them though the adjoining window. "Go wake up Deuce. B328 is ready for transport."
