What does everyone have against Australian history? gonk

We don't see her telling you to do medicine. x3

Why would I do that? My son can do whatever he wants to do, as long as it makes him happy. *pinches his cheek*

But I thought you weren't this mother! eek gonk

In any case, hands off. ninja

I'm 7th! heart

And I had it wrong, the first guy is working about 1.5 times my speed. Not -too- bad. x3

DNA: I'm guessing it's an Asian thing then. xp ;;

Ok then.
I've always been told by my parents I can do what I damn well like in terms of a career.
That's the way it should be. No one should be expected to do something they don't want to do.

In the future I will treat my own children in the same manner.

That's a good way to go about it. I know mine didn't mind too much as to what I was going to do at first as I had my mind stuck on science before I even finished primary school... so they figured I'd get a steady career. Then, as soon as I'd done all my uni applications and my offer came through, my dad wasn't happy. I was going to be studying in an area with traditionally small job prospects. He even suggested that I reject my offer and do just a straight science course. I stood up to him though and didn't back down. Now I'm doing what I want, but I know he isn't entirely happy with me for it.

My mom has been upset with my younger sister lately because of what she wants to do. Lets just say, that until about halfway through last year she would get her work done and study. Now, all she does is play on the computer (pretty much like I'm doing now), and talking on the phone and socialising. She doesn't get assignments done on time, she isn't doing her homework or study, and last year failed math. Her complete personality has changed. She's no longer the nice girl, she's "bad-arse" I guess you could say. Instead of listening to the music she would normally listen to, all of a sudden she likes heavy metal and grungy sort of stuff. I don't have anything against it, just she had always claimed to hate it. Now all of her friends and her listen to this stuff, dress in that sort of clothing etc. I'm not saying I have anything against it, just that I feel she is following the crowd and trying to be cool. She's lost everything she used to be. Now she's telling my parents that she doesn't want to bother with school because she's going to be a zookeeper. My parents have told her she has to complete year eleven and twelve (she's in eleven at the moment). She didn't even want to do that. I guess it is because that isn't "cool" at the moment. I've looked into things for her so that she can still work with animals, but to have greater career prospects and working conditions. I've done so much research to try and help her. She just won't let me in, and I don't know what to do. I don't mean to push her or anything, just that I think she's making a mistake and just simply following a trend which she will regret later on in life. If she could just get some qualifications from tafe, which she could do whilst working as a zookeeper, she'd be able to do so much more. Studying at the moment just isn't a cool thing to do, and she's going to look back and realise what a mistake she made. I just know it, I know my sister. If she could just get some qualifications, she'll notice the difference for the better. I'm just so sick of all these fads that go around.

I've heard my parents make comments about her work ethic at the moment, and they're not happy. They've made comments to me such as "yes, but that's because you study". In othewords, I study but she doesn't. I've overheard them talking about her and they seem quite concerned. I know that it is neither mine nor my parents place to force her to do what she doesn't want to do. Does anyone know where I am coming from? I just feel she's making a huge mistake by following some stupid teenager trend.

I'm sorry about your sister, Chem. I know what you mean about the trend and stage she's going through. Yet everyone goes through adolescence and distractions and the majority can remain in control and still be good students through to the HSC. VCE if you're Victorian which I suspect you are.

I don't think there's much you can do about her if she refuses to accept your help and let you get through to her. She'll probably regret it and the best she could do then is catch up. That's the best she could do if she won't listen now. I've never really been a good student, who tried hard and gave her all all the time, but I've been smart enough to do really well in school till about Year 7. At the end of last year I realised just how badly I was doing compared to how I could. I was figuratively around halfway between average and best. I realised I could do better and I have to put more into it because I didn't want average marks, I'm better than that. So I guess I'd try harder. I'm improving so far, somewhat. sweatdrop

I'm glad you've got a good course in uni though- what are you doing? ^^

I guess not, I'm going to just have to let her make her mistakes and learn from them in time. I just hope that by then, it isn't too late.

I'm doing a B. forensic science and a degree in criminology and criminal justice. 3nodding Traditionally, it's quite a small field, so low job prospects. My dad fails to understand that the amount of jobs is currently increasing exponentially at the moment... sweatdrop

Is anyone else having trouble with msn? It keeps signing me out and won't let me back on... crying Neither of my emails are working... crying

Meh, well if nothing else works there's not much you could do. Forensic science sounds very cool. I don't think there's too little careers out of that.

How exactly doesn't your MSN work? gonk Keep your window open and it should tell you when it doesn't sign in. Troubleshoot. sweatdrop
