Jon-OH
why don't you just use your incredible magic weilding powers to mute your own magic signiture then when using it in practicum, make it appear to originate from random points of origin?

What do you think I've been working on for the last two weeks?

...

Cause, well, I mean... It's not that. But it's similar.

Wait, wouldn't casting a spell that mutes a magic signature leave a magic signature?

whee

Probably.
Besides, if you tried to collapse the radiating magic on itself to prevent it from being noticed on the usual channels, and succeeded, there's a pretty good chance that it'll create the magical equivalent of a black hole.

Magic tends to attract other magics. It's one of the reasons why mages are both handy and annoying.

And it's why this is taking so long to sort out.

Besides, the radiating magic isn't the part we need to worry about. The Magic Marker system that the folks back at SG utilize tracks those with a strong connection to magic by following mystic currents.

You see, magical energy flows around the world in this wild pattern that's like a giant spider-web of rivers... you just can't see it, because it doesn't exist as far as the physics of our reality is concerned. It's like mixing Windows with MAC OS. Doesn't work.

Anyway: the big guns, like Dale, are easy to track because they're at the convergence of many of these currents. A giant, magical X marks the spot. And they know enough about Dale to be able to find him anywhere in the world outside of this base, which doesn't allow for any signals in or out (which explains the lack of cell-phone reception).

Dale's also the most mortal out of any of us, hence the great deal of focus we have on this problem.

It's true that users of conventional magic retain a certain... well, I don't know what to call it. Casting magic takes a price from everyone eventually. Darker magics usually erode your soul. Elemental magics have... well, very unpredictable physical effects. Dale's sensitivity to sunlight is part of this. Aside from these physical or spiritual effects, there's also a kind of... magic charge, I guess. It shows up in certain low level scans, but as you said, there are all sorts of creative ways for a mage to get around that.

In a nutshell, that's why we're focusing on a way to cut off, or at least mute, Dale's broader connection to the flow of magical energies.

We all need to be able to move freely.
It's only gonna get worse.

Okay, first prototype is nearing completion.

Hammered out a rough figure of what it will look like.

Due to the subject's strong connection to the element of fire, the device is built around a compressed crystal of the elemental force of water (which I am currently 30% through the forging/crystalizing process of).

Managed to find a clean-burning power source to start the thing up. That was a load off.
Temperature emissions, much lower than expected.

Device fits around the wrist like a manacle, or a semi-clunky wrist watch. There's a bit of a p***k involved in initial application, as it needs to regulate internal as well as external magical field interaction.
Self-adjusts to a comfortable fit (I even remembered to account for circulation, this time).

Simple code imput for on and off switch, to prevent accidental de-activation while in the field, or when engaged in an up-coming, motion intensive Wii games.

Hopefully I'll have it finalized in the next few days, but we'll be needing some extra tests and trials to make sure it isn't, y'know... lethal.

Sent schematics and abridged notes to Jared and Dale's offices for a twice-over, just in case.

Is there a particular part of the body those magic stream converge on? If not wouldn't it be possible to just summon forth some ethereal limbs to divide them onto so he just appeared to be several moderately powerful mages?

I don't think that would be possible. It takes a great deal of energy to alter the path of a Magic Stream, which puts us at a double disadvantage.

Dale would be expending his own MP to consciously push the source of his power away from himself. Best case scenario: it would work, but he wouldn't have access to his own abilities due to the drain.

Worst case scenario: he pushes the streams off until he runs out of strengh, which causes a backlash. The magical energies force themselves back in, while he has no ability to hold them in check. He could end up brain damaged, go blind, or actually explode.

Also, having a group of moderately powerful mages show up on their screens is likely to throw up a red flag... maybe not as fast as Dale showing up normally, but we're shooting for him being completely off the radar.

Umm. Stop it please, Saint. I don't want any drama in here.

If you want to say something, you can make your very own thread, hell you can make a sticky about it. This is mine and I'd like to keep it neutral ground for ALL of my friends.

I was just saying what needed to be said. There really was no personal attack, with the exception being my ex-girlfriend. And I will bash on her to my hearts content. so in closing, no politics, please keep banter down to a minimum outside of the couch, no flute things that remind me of my ex, please don't write false fan-fic, Sho is windy and I would understand more of what he is saying if he trimmed it down, Banshi needs to let us know when she is walking through walls, and I will change the title every time you tell me not to.
