When Marc opened the door to get the newspaper he saw a young woman and a small child standing on his lawn. She smiled up at him. "You must be Marc", she said and walked towards the porch.

He had just finished his current mouthful of breakfast when he heard a woman at the door.

"Yes, yes. I am Marc WIlliams. What can I do for you, ma'am?", he asked, looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Well, to be honest I would like to speak to Joey. His father told me he would be with you", she replied and the boy, who was about 3 years old, looked up at his mother.

He heard his name mentioned and walked to the door frame but didn't walk out as he didn't want to offend anyone in his state of undress. "Is everything ok Marc?" He asked.

Hearing Joey's voice the woman looked towards the door. "And there he is. Joey? It's Carina Campagnilo".
Marc didn't really know what to do so he did what his father would have done. "Would you like to come inside, ma'am?"

He frowned and let out a sigh. "You don't have to let her in Marc." He spoke, still not walking out from where he was standing, hiding his dignity. "Why has my father sent you here Carina? Can this not wait until I am at work later?"

"Actually I was hoping we could talk in private, Joey. It's about Eugenio", she said, petting the little boy on his head. She looked at Marc apologetically, seeming rather embarrassed at the whole situation.
Marc took a step back into the house. "Hold on a minute, ma'am", he said, then left the door slightly ajar. "Joey ... this seems to be urgent. Get dressed".

He sighed and nodded. "Ok, I'll go get changed. I'll be back in a minute. If you let them into the lounge?" He asked as he headed towards the staircase.

"I will", he said, hiding the fact that he was incredibly confused about the lady and the child. He walked back towards the front door and opened it again. "Please come inside, ma'am", he said, taking a step to the side as he did so.
Carina did feel uncomfortable there was no question about it and she didn't understand what Joey's father had in mind when he sent her towards this stranger's house to talk to his son about Eugenio. Nevertheless she entered and she was led into the lounge by this man. She had overheard Joey call him Marc so she assumed he was a friend of his. But then she was rather confused to find him at a friend's house at such an early hour.

He headed back downstairs and into the lounge once her was dressed. "So what brings you here so early? And who is this?" He asked gesturing towards the child. All this said before he had sat down. He was angry and annoyed that she would interrupt his precious time with Marc.

"Your father, Joey. He ... see, it wasn't my idea. He made me go. This is Eugenio", she said, pointing at the young boy, sitting on her lap. "I don't know how to put this, Joey. I just don't know", she said, her gaze was lowered to the floor and it seemed like she was taking a closer look at the carpet. Just by looking at her the both men could tell that she was very uncomfortable.
Marc stood up from the couch, not sure what to do. He felt this was none of his business. "I'll be in the kitchen preparing breakfast", he said quickly, then rushed out of the living room to give them some space.

He watched as his source of comfort left the room. He turned his attention towards the woman again. "I can guess what you're about to say..." He said looking from the child to the woman. "I don't know how you can have the brazenness to come to me and try this on!"

Carina let out a sigh and shook her head. "You don't understand, Joey! Your father made me come and you know how ... persuasive he can be. Remember that party at his house? Where you got crazy drunk and so did I. Remember where you woke up the next morning and who was with you", she said then she ran her fingers through her hair and Joey could tell she was nervous about this. "Well, he is the result of that night and I ... I never wanted to come and put it in your face. But your father thinks you are a little too distracted with this .... other man".
