He scowled. "I wasn't running away. I just...wanted to leave." He looked away from her again. "Look, I don't know if you're just schizo or what, but it's not my problem."

It's stupid to get your hopes up.

"Now run along back to your little dorm...you too, Fido." He glared moodily at Shiro.

It's not the same.

"And get some rest before you pass out or something."

It can't be.

...Can it?

He closed his eyes and sighed quietly. I came here to find answers. I guess...running from them won't help anything.

He paused. He suddenly felt very exposed. The thought of voicing anything, to anyone...

"...I...ran...because..." Had talking to people always been this hard? He supposed he'd never tried... "Because..."

FLASH.

'Oh no...no...'

The blood. The screams.

'I...remember...'

FLASH.

He glanced toward the girl again, through the patch of black hair to her unmatching eyes, and wondered if he had ever carried out a conversation this long with anyone.

"...Tell me about your other side," he whispered.

Ashori watched him quietly, a very faint frown upon her face. Shiro had scrambled up onto her shoulder again, once more fixing the boy with a blank stare. He was... confused. He was this kid? He recognized the scent that had first caught Ashori's attention, and narrowed his eyes in thought. But he was brought out with a growl at the name and glare he was given.

Ashori ignored it and nodded her head lightly. "O-ok.." she mumrured, but didn't move. He looked like he was about to say something else. She just listened silently as he almost explained himself, before trailing off and saying something else entirely.

She blinked, looking back at him uncertainly. She was obviously hesitating, suddenly looking almost scared. Should she say anything? But Shiro nuzzled his cheek gently against hers, and she slowly began to reply, as if that'd helped urge her along.

"It's... the side that can use the energy," she said quietly, her voice almost a whisper as well. "It's the side that hurts people.. I-it responds to blood as the trigger, I-I think..."

"Hn." He scowled, and folded his arms. "Blood, huh?"

Blood's never bothered me. Not like that, anyway...

"Getting into a fight doesn't exactly seem like a good idea then," he mused, and his lips twitched slightly.

Just leave her here. Who cares?

The crimson eyes softened a little, and he held out his hand again.

"I hurt people, too," he murmured quietly, smiling at her a little. "I don't...always mean to, but...sometimes, I can't help it." He leaned down a little so that they could see eye-to-eye. "Come on. Let's go to the cafeteria. I haven't eaten in days and you look like you're about to blow away in the wind. Do you..." he looked suddenly uncertain, childlike behind the immediate scowl. "Do you...mind?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 07, 2007 2:37 pm

Ashori gave a light nod of her head, then glanced nervously to the ground. "Y-yeah..." she agreed quietly. But the fight had occurred because the demon had been in control. Sometimes, she lost it simply from anger or frustration. Though for now, she just kept this detail to herself.

She lifted her head again, just enough to stare at the hand he was offering. But when he spoke again, her eyes widened slightly and she stared levely towards his face. She looked shocked, yet relieved at the same time. It was odd, that she'd be relieved to hear that he hurt people, but it was another comparison she could make to herself, which wasn't something she could do often.

When he continued on with an offer to accompany her to the cafeteria, her eyes widened a little further. "...I-I don't mind," she breathed. The shock faded slightly, a smile taking its place, as she carefully accepted his hand.

"Yeah, right," Lake muttered, as they re-entered the dorm area and began to head back in the direction of Ashori's door. "Just don't pass out on me yet, okay kiddo?"

He kicked the door open with his foot and stumbled inside, Ashori still in his arms. Once Shiro, too, had entered the room, he pushed the door closed again and approached the bed, hesitating for a moment before sitting down on the edge and turning to put Ashori atop the covers.

Man, she's tiny.

He looked down at her for a moment or so in silence, his expression unreadable, then set her on the bed, getting up and sighing.

"Guess that's that," he muttered. He glanced at Shiro. "Nice knowing you, pooch."

Ashori nodded her head very slightly, her eyes still shut. But she hadn't quite lost consciousness. She'd done this several times, fighting to stay awake. She was very close to losing at the moment though. She heard the sound of a door opening, though again it sounded very far off.

A minute or so later, and she felt herself being set down. Her lips moved as she tried to speak, but no sound emitted. She was out almost as soon as she touched the bed.

...she said thank you, Shiro interpretted, glancing up at Lake. He hopped onto the bed beside her and sat there quietly. He wondered, from what the boy had just said, if he was planning on leaving entirely. But then he remembered him speaking of not wanting to be kicked out, and decided that wasn't it.

Lake paused. Really, he had no reason to be there anymore. He was intending to just leave...he supposed now would be a good time to find his own dorms.

Thank you...?

"..."

No one's ever said that to me before...

He glanced toward the faint, pale figure on the bed and sighed. "Yeah. Whatever. Have a nice life." He waved a hand absently and reached for the door handle.

Ashori stirred once before laying completely still, except for the rhythmic tapping her her tail on the bed beside. Shiro sighed and jumped down onto the floor again. He closed his eyes and Ashori's body lifted an inch, enabling the covers to move out from beneath her. He placed them back over her and set her down gently before turning to face Lake.

Don't go too far, he said calmly. I'm not done talking to you, and I'm sure she isn't either.

"Oh yeah?" Lake turned defiantly to glare down at the small creature. "And if I do?!"

'What are you so pissy about?'

"Look, not to burst your bubble - though trust me, that gives me great pleasure - but I'm not planning to stick around. I don't owe you - or her - anything...there aren't any strings attached...and I don't plan to ever see either of you again. Okay? So just leave me alone." He spun around and gave Shiro his back, his dark eyes guarded. "I...I don't want to know you...or anybody else...I don't care, you got that? I don't care about anything..."

He shoved open the door and stepped through into the outside air beyond.

Shiro stayed silent, letting him speak his piece. Then he sat down, turning to glance towards Ashori again, who was sound asleep without any hope of waking anytime soon. His tail, maybe a centimeter in length, swayed back and forth a couple times. You seemed to care quite a bit earlier, he said gently. But go on. I won't stop you.

Still not looking towards Lake, he instead inched forward and lay down, curled up in a tiny ball and nuzzled against Ashori's side.

"I don't! I don't care about a damn thing!"

Silence fell. Shiro was curled up on the bed, and did not appear to take the slightest bit of interest in Lake's ramblings, despite the large amount of hollering he had managed in the past three minutes.

He clenched his fists in frustration ("and you'd better not think otherwise!" he bellowed), and he glared into the room at the small dog, his cheeks flushed.

"..."

Silence greeted him in return, and he stood awkwardly in the doorway for a moment or so as though contemplating something. Then, with an extremely sour look on his face, he stormed back inside, slamming the door shut behind him.

"Guess it couldn't hurt to stay 'till she wakes up," he muttered roughly. "If she dies or something, I'll probably end up getting in trouble for it...should've minded my own business to begin with...damnit..."

He shot a glare at Shiro again before moving to the wall adjacent to the bed, leaning against it and folding his arms.

"Hmph," he said.

Shiro ignored him, allowing the silence to fill the room. Ashori couldn't respond because she'd passed out. So Lake was left to shout basically to himself, for even that didn't cause Ashori to stir, and Shiro certainly wasn't moving. His large ears were even flattened against his head, though he was still listening. He didn't hear any footsteps, so even when it feel silent, he knew the boy was still there, in the doorway, probably debating with himself what he should do.

A knowing smirk split across the dog's hidden face as he heard Lake's decision, but at first he still remained silent. In fact, he may have appeared to be asleep, not moving at all as he was. But then a sudden short sentences entered his head, the amused tone not very well hidden.

There's a chair by the desk.

"..."

There was another pause.

"I know that!"

Promptly, he stomped over to Ashori's desk and hauled the chair forwards so he could sit by the bed, shooting Shiro another nasty look, even though the dog was no longer looking at him.

"...Hmph."

He folded his arms and looked around for a few moments, quiet at last. Then he glanced toward Ashori.

So...she has healing powers, huh? I guess that's kind of similiar to my ability...except she can use hers to help others, as well as herself. Figures, or she'd be dead by now... He sighed. She's at least somewhat useful. He looked down at his hands. But as for me...then again, I wonder...if...if she's like me...then...then maybe I can...

He hesitated, watching the girl's sleeping form warily. He glanced at Shiro.

"..."

Well, she looks like hell. Might as well give it a try...

Slowly, he leaned forward, hesitating for a moment or so again before extending his hands over her body. Like I have any idea how to do this...

He placed one hand over Ashori's forehead, the other over her stomach before closing his eyes to think.

Damnit...I don't even know how I heal myself...I just do it faster than normal people...my body does it, not me...okay okay, focus...

His eyebrows drew together slightly in a frown, and he became silent again, struggling to focus all his concentration toward Ashori's healing, willing power to flow through him, picturing her in his mind...

...And realizing, after a few minutes or so, that he was just a guy sitting in a girl's dorm doing something that looked extremely suspicious to an unconscious woman.

"..." He pulled away. "DAMNIT!"

Ashori didn't stir throughout all of that. She just lay there silently, and Shiro remained still as he snuggled against her side. It wasn't clear whether the dog was asleep or not, but he certainly appeared to be. He didn't protest against whatever it was Lake was trying.

However, her mind was extremely active. Something was chasing her, though she didn't know what it was. Something was preventing her from looking over her shoulder. But she knew it was there. She could hear the footsteps as it raced after her. She herself was running flat out, stumbling every now and then but refusing to fall or slow down. Faster, faster! she urged herself, shutting her eyes tightly.

She felt a strange, yet familiar sensation on her back and winced, finally stumbling and not being able to keep herself up. She fell flat, sliding forward a few inches after she hit. And she lay there, tense, her hands clenched tightly.

Outside of her dream, her body had flipped over onto her stomach and she'd curled up into a ball, huddling close to herself. Two buldges had appeared beneath the shirt on her back, and suddenly burst forward, tearing through fabric and skin alike. She screamed, high pitch and shrill and then bit down on her tongue hard.

Shiro had leapt up and was staring, three eyes wide, as two wings expanded from the girl's back. The right was of white feathers, currently stained with blood, and the left was of black leather. Both extended fully, froze for a second or two, and then flopped awkwardly to wrap around her, hiding her huddled form completely from view.

"What the-,"

He was on his feet in an instant, moving swiftly toward the bed...his crimson eyes were hard, unblinking, and his face appeared even paler than usual...however, he did not look frightened.

Those are...

"You are...like me..." he whispered. There was a slight quaver in his voice as he spoke, but then he moved hurriedly over to the bed, pushing the nearest wing aside to see the crouched form underneath. "Hey! Hey, you! Snap out of it!"
