Democracy be damned...

I run my ship as I'd run my own home. Men must be governed, and aboard ship, it is as they were children. You wouldn't believe how many pirate ships were taken aprize due to bad leadership & ill-organized crews. Entire ship's companies feuding for the right to command and no one to fight the opposing ship.

Needless to say, my ship does have a certain R.N. appearance to her. This is mostly in part to 'my time spent in the service'. With expierence comes habit, and with habit comes addiction. Therefore, in a round about way... I've now given the proper excuses as to why I run my ship the way I do.

Yes, I have officers. Yes, I have ranks... but without we'd be put to the bottom. Can you imagine a nautical RP where only two out of thirty-eight people know what the hell they are talking about and everyone is giving orders? It's like the old saying goes,'Too many Chiefs, No Indians.' Nothing would ever get done. It would fail within a week.

Up until this point, I've run my ship in the same manner. I'd like to think that it is because of this that my Guild is the oldest and still active pirate guild to date on Gaia. In time, and with some knowledge gained, you'll get used to the way of life aboard the 'Lady', you can count on it.

Oh, and my intentions toward Miss Starman are altogether pure, I assure you.

Any crew can overthrow it's captain: It's called mutiny.
As for how actual pirates went about things, you have to account the fact that most crews only existed for a matter of months, as did their vessels. Captains changed constantly and all was unorganized and the promise of plunder was slight... unless a person stepped in that could bring order to their crew, examples include Henry Morgan, Edward Tech & Francis Drake.

I'm sorry to say but the occupation of a pirate was not a prosperous one. Infact, it was basically a way to work without working... the lazy man's occupation.

If piracy was indeed the "lazy man's" way out I can easily see myself occupying such a role if I had been born in the golden era.
Ah, I might've even earned a name for myself; damn the modernity I've been born into.
The likelyhood of death, disfigurment and illness at sea is a small risk to run in the name of immortal fame and glory.

But I'm glorifying the past, it's far more likely that I would float around in a tiny ship with a bunch of lazy scroungers, our ranks would fluctuate inceasently, we would entertain ourselves with petty games until we finally find a ship to rob.
Then we would either win or die and consiering our lack of experience the latter is far more likely.
Essentially your looking at a ship-load of sweaty, sunburnt, bored teenagers. Not very exciting at all.

The title of 'Lord' only goes as far as to confirm that you are indeed the Viceroy of Provoka. Your rank goes only as far as Diplomacy is concerned. Otherwise, you are a Blackcoat: High in Civilian Ranking, no more.

As far as Naval Standards go, you are actually junior to me...
