Well, I would love to clarify what the label "Emo" is. Emo is divided into a social group and a type of music. Emo considering music is short for "Emotionally Charged Hardcore Rock". Emo as considering the label of society is short for "Emotional Goth/Punk". So asking to decide over "Emo" and "Punk" means that they fit into the same category. That's my opinion, anyway.

I prefer punk but I think theres more musical possibilities through emo. And I'm not talking about that pop-punk emo junk like Simple Plan... more like the screemo stuff.

Punk. Wanna' hear an emo bashing song? xd I'm not against emo, I actually love emo, but this song is bashing the emo people, not the music. So, try not to get offended, kay? heart http://emosong.ytmnd.com/

I don't really believe in bashing emo, whether it be in the genre or the stereotyped character. I have yet to find a logical reason in taking the crap out of them other than the primitive delight in senseless hatred for those who respond different emotionally or those who enjoy a different lifestyle.

Although Emo tends to be whiny, there is some really good stuff out there for those certain moods...ahem...(fallout boy, hopelies within, dashboard confessional etc)
...classic punk can't be beat either (sex pistols, dead kennedys etc)
...also like some hardcore like the Gorilla Biscuits, Sick of it All and Bold for ex
n in response to the question abt what is emo v punk... I think Emo is more on the personal level (relationships, feelings etc) while punk is more political and angry...wehre does hardcore fall? you tell me...? I would say somewhere in btwn

I would say somewhere in btwn Hardcore is just a harder and faster version of punk rock. The Gorilla Biscuits are considered to be 'melodic' hardcore although that's not an official sub-genre. When you mix extremely angsty (yet loud) vocals to hardcore, you get emo (check out Rites Of Spring and you'll know what I mean).

i'd have to go more on the emo side....emo can be punk...but with emo packed into it...so you get all of it...not all emo bands have punk music (fast beats) in them but some do...depends on who you listen to....
another one of these threads...dudes get over it...some calling emo s**t....think of it this way...if you're in a band and something really bad happens to you then you're mostly going to write about it...lets say for example your girlfriend dies...then your not really thinking about it...but you just made a type of an emo song...there are different tyes of emo...some are just classified differently... some people say emo is just about people crying and cutting themselves...well reality check...guess what...it's not all about that!!!
