My cards were a gift/purchase. >< I didnt have enough money, so a friend paid the difference as my b-day gift.

*laughs* Mine were supposed to be a birthday present, but I paid for them mostly in the end.

I read somewhere awhile ago that tarot cards will be more bonded with the owner if it is given as a gift. Unfortunatly I'm not as lucky to have friends who would pitch in money for my tarot cards. Lucky you! I usually buy each of my deck during a special occasion like my birthday.

I be me: the spur of the moment for me is: twice I had money with me and went to the bookstore to purchase a deck I have already chosen, but then I would see another deck that catches my attention more and I would buy that one instead. That's I came upon my new Transformation deck!!

I have bought the new, Gilded Tarot deck, it has very bright colors, and I love the artwork. So far it has been my favorite deck. But the first deck I ever had was given to me by a friend, and that was the Faerie Oracle, with artwork by Brian Froud. i loved that deck, as I have always had a link to all things faery and elven. But to be honest, I did not get very far with this deck. I always asked questions, but it never gave stright answers, only more questions, and I would always end up a bit confused with the deck, but I had a lot of fun with it too!

personally, i don't think there's much to that idea of decks as gifts being any different than decks as purchases. anyway, if you think about it, even if you buy a Tarot deck, it's like buying a gift for yourself.

this reminds me, i need to get out and get a new deck. i've been itching to get the Robin Wood one since ever.

I've heard the same thing about the cards being gifts, but I also am not sure I put to much stock in it. I've also heard that only your first deck has to be a gift, but that would leave some people hanging forever to get a deck and it may not be one they like in the end. ><

And am I the only one here with one Tarot deack? (I do have a Confusion (I so misspelt that...) wisdom deck, but tis more about reflection than scrying)

Lol, that is totally understandable. I have the same deck, it is my first oracle deck. I don't use it for fortune telling though, just ask them for help. Most faeries are tricky by nature so when you ask a question, be as SPECIFIC as you can, because they can twist your words aroung. Most of them are playful by nature, too.

A recent reading that I did. I have begun to draw cards from my transformation deck asking for what I need to work on in my life and The Star card came up. It said something about accepting help or guidance, but I can't seem to think of anybody who would be a guidance to me. Then, I remember by faery oracle deck (which I had not use in months!). I spread the cards out and strengthen the sensitivity of my hand to energy of the cards. I hover my hands over the cards until one just catches my attention. The card I got was Netys of Alchemy. And coincidentally she is underneath the category for Faery Guide and Guardian!

It's okay to have only one Tarot deck. It probably means that you are comfortable using that deck and is so bonded with it, you see no necessity to buy another deck. biggrin xd whee 3nodding

I continue to buy more decks because I like varieties and each of the deck corresponds to a few of my many interests. blaugh

my one tarot deck "owns" me.. sweatdrop I can only use it when it decided it wants to be brought out and used. Which isn't much, really. Which is fine with me.

lol, I never heard of that before! When it does want you to use it, do you "need" to use it? So it's like you have to save up your questions until it wants to be use.

It simply doesnt like being used often. Especailly if someone it doesnt like has handled it recently. (this always happens on accident- some idiot gets them out of my purse, etc). They really dont like one of the guys from Anime club, and I've found I cant tolerate the guy since I discovered that. But my friend Ken can always make them nice again. xd

And I often find other ways to figure out what I need to know. My cards are kinda like an easily irritated kitten.

That's something I don't like to do...allow others to touch my cards, I would no more allow someone to touch my cards than I would allow someone to touch my Athame or Wand. So it's fortunate I can read with out someone handling the cards...lol

Do you wrap them in silk....that's supposed to be an excellent barrier from negativity. I always lay my cards out on silk to protect the from nagative energies.

I also smudge them with sage and sometimes use my dowsing crystal to cleanse them.

I remember sometime last semester, I did the reading for this guy, but when he hand the cards back to me after he finish shuffling them, I felt there was something wrong with my cards...there was, the reading for him didn't make any sense at all. I went almost hysteria saying my cards has been tainted! I cleanse my cards when I got home though to get rid of the "tainted energy".
