✰ Day: 90 ✰ Theme: color palette challenge ✰ Time spent: 21 mins

Comments: I have drawn at least one Cheshire Cat drawing for most, if not all, of each 100 Day event I’ve done. I saw this palette and didn’t want to let the tradition lapse.
I want to add that I really like a lot of my past Cheshire Cat drawings. I dislike some too. I don’t have time to add past drawings but might edit this post when I can to continue my theme of reminiscing I’ve been doing XD;
And this one? Still on the doodle track (see day 89)

✰ Day: 92 ✰ Theme: Art Challenge: Draw something you don’t usually draw & Study characters from other artists/movies/shows ✰ Time spent: 20 mins

Comments: Drawings 92-95 were all drawn in succession tonight and there’s an underlying theme. The story is continued in each post.
I usually look at the themes daily. If I’m behind, I usually read through all of the days’ themes before starting any drawings. This time, I happened to not do that. I read through day 92’s themes and then jumped off to find reference and start
I saw the prompt to draw things we never draw… and my first thought was dogs/wolves. When I read the study prompt, I decided it was a good day to do another Aaron Blaise study. It was good timing since I felt like drawing.
I googled his name and the word “wolf” and went with the first video I checked out. It was exactly what I was hoping for. It wasn’t just a Timelapse of him drawing, it’s a video where he explained how to draw a wolf. the video
I drew along in real time with the video. I had to pause it a couple times. His hand blocked what he was drawing so I didn’t know what to draw until he was done with that feature. XD; Otherwise, it was a somewhat stressful exercise since he drew at his normal, very-experienced-at-drawing-wolves speed. But fun.
My drawing isn’t accurate to his… but considering how fast I had to go to keep up and how I never draw canines… it turned out okay. It was good to hear all of his tips again. I’ve mentioned in other posts that I used to listen to or watch his videos often. I didn’t draw along when I did. It’s been a looooong time so it was good to hear all those tips again
Extra ramble about the brush: I used a brand new brush for this exercise that I hadn’t used before. So that added a slight layer of difficulty to this… getting used to how a brush behaves while also rushing to draw the next lines XD When I first clicked the video, I needed to see if it was what I was looking for. So I had skipped the video forward to a few random spots to check it out. One of those times, I heard him say he was drawing with charcoal (traditionally)… So I wanted to use a charcoal brush while following along. I don’t have a go-to charcoal brush.. but this one could be my new fav charcoal That said, I kept changing the size of the brush. It didn’t behave the same as his pencil. He had a nice sharp point for drawing AND that nice thick edge for shading the fur. My brush also had a tilt feature… but the texture didn’t match. When I’d size my brush to be thinner, the fur shading was way too scratchy and thin. Icky. So I’d size the brush up for that and then size it back down as needed. I mostly erred on keeping the brush thicker than his pencil since it was a good size for the fur. … So that said, I didn’t shade the wolf’s left ear right up to the tip… like it seems. I drew in the fur lines and my brush happens to be chunky.. and I had no time to fix it. XD
I’ll look at my time lapse to figure out the time later

✰ Day: 93 ✰ Theme: off theme — redraw the study from day 92 ✰ Time spent: 24 mins

Comments: Story continued from above
So when Aaron was done drawing the wolf portrait, I paused the video to compare. Really, I paused so that I could actually look at my art for the first time. XD It hit all the talking points, but the proportions were off. But that’ll happen if I barely have time to eyeball before committing to a line
So. I decided right then that I’d redraw it for Day 93. Didn’t look at the prompts.
I put about the same amount of time into it. I redrew it at about the same speed I drew the first wolf at, constructing it using the same method I’d just done. However, I left his video paused and looked at his final image as a ref I also used the symmetry tool when setting up the base structure. It’s what I’d do anyway on a straight on portrait like this to keep eyes symmetrical and such. I turned off the symmetry tool after the base shapes were down
And XD while looking at the image, I swear he snuck in extra shading and details. I swear I didn’t see him add those things during the video.

✰ Day: 94 ✰ Theme: Wolf & Study characters from other artists/movies/shows ✰ Time spent: 35 mins

Comments: Story continued from day 93
Okay so, what I haven’t mentioned yet is that it’s a two part video. The first part is the wolf portrait. The second part is a different drawing of a “wolf in action.”
I had no intentions of continuing. I felt like I’d done enough studying for now, esp after rushing to keep up. BUT. I looked at Day 94’s prompts and “wolf” was there. OTL. Okay. Fine then. I’d continue.
I again drew along with the video in real time. I only paused a couple times. But!! This time, he had obvious cuts in the video. One moment he was starting to shade the fur on the head… and the next moment, it was filled in. XD So I backed it up to confirm that’s indeed what happened… and then paused so I could catch up. He did it another time too. It made me wonder if there were cuts in the first half that I didn’t notice. It would explain how he got in some of those extra details that I swear I didn’t see/hear him mention. XD Anyway~
Anyway, considering that this was drawn in real time along with the video again… I think it turned out well.
I had no desire to redraw this one to finesse it. I felt done with drawing wolves. > < So this one isn’t getting a redraw
(The video is ~15 mins so I took longer to finesse during those pauses than I thought)

✰ Day: 95 ✰ Theme: Fenrir ✰ Time spent: 40 mins

Comments: Story continued from day 94
Okay, so, here’s the story of how this wolf drawing went so wrong after I’d just done a little wolf studying. XD (It’s not that humorous, but I’m telling it anyway)
Like I said, I felt done with drawing wolves. Thing is, I was also done with drawing. I know how I draw when I get in that mood so I shoulve just stopped while I was ahead…. But, no, I wanted to be caught up on the event. I haven’t had time to draw much lately and needed to catch up while I could.
So. … I looked at the prompts for Day 95 and saw =.= Fenrir. I couldn’t *not* do it. Soooo I googled Aaron Blaise & Wolf again — this time, looking for a fierce wolf image. I ran with the first fierce-ish image I found. (Ref screenshot here)
I sketched the wolf, keeping in mind the tips I’d just learned. …Also keeping in mind that this is a totally different pose and those tips don’t help with this angle. I’ve included that sketch layer in this post. It’s okay, but I didn’t think it was fierce enough for Fenrir
So here’s where I went rogue. I knew it wouldn’t go well but I also didn’t care. XD And I also didn’t care enough to go find reference… Sooo it’s exactly as bad as I figured it’d be. If anything, I think I would’ve done a better job if I hadn’t just studied wolves… I would’ve been eager to draw. Instead, I was burnt out and had no worry about accuracy. The drawing got a quick slap of fur and new line work like how I’d line it… not like AB’s drawing.
I still included his image as a ref… since this started as a study. My base sketch was a copy. However, I put away the ref after I decided to add a snarl… and never went back. So, in the end… this wolf does not look like it was drawn by someone who’d just brushed up a little on wolves. And XD it’s also a poor study since I didn’t *really* study. I didn’t care while I was drawing… but I obviously dislike that I’m having to post this mess. XD
I had googled Fenrir before drawing just to double check its design. I saw something about gold chains. …So I added a pretty gold ribbon at the end to distract, I mean, add accuracy. XD;;
The takeaway: There was no learning done in this study. c: I learned from the previous 3 drawings, but not this one. I should’ve left it as a WIP sketch. The sketch is also bleh, but that’s normally where I stop and try to fix my proportions. Well, I usually do that as I go I’m also just realizing that I didn’t change the ears to match the body language. See XD; that’s something I prob would’ve caught if I felt like drawing. Because I would’ve stoped to scrutinize it and that thought would’ve hopefully hit me while finessing the sketch. XD Annnd I know this is what I do when I don’t feel like drawing. :} So it’s not like I learned that either. XDD I usually just take a break and don’t force drawing. However, I just wanted to be caught up with the event end so near
I hope this doesn’t come off as me complaining (too much). I did have fun overall and this was a good exercise
Also, to touch on a previous topic… I still need to find time to finish up the donuts. But I felt like drawing, not making art. XDD I’d initially planned on doing some doodles/illustrations to catch up, not realism ish stuff
(Initial wolf sketch was about 14 mins the total, ribbon about 5 mins)

✰ Day: 96 ✰ Theme: Spirit Challenge: Draw art for an art collector! & Art Challenge: Draw something with your eyes closed! ✰ Time spent:

Comments: Default’s request “weird bird”
And I thought drawing with non-dominant hand was hard. XD I have drawn with eyes closed a handful of times in the past… but I usually pick simpler objects so that the outcome is better XD; Now I’m having flashbacks of playing the board game Cranium. I’ve drawn eyes closed more than I was thinking. I haven’t played in years but I didn’t mind the cards that made you draw Pictionary prompts eyes closed cuz my drawings didn’t look half bad. XD; Like, they looked similar to what some of my friends drew with their eyes open. XDD Not that those drawings were good. XDDD
I know I would’ve had more success if I’d included the leg bit while drawing the outline… but I wanted the spontaneity c;
This is a collection of 3 separate attempts. They were each drawn on their own layer and rearranged after. There’s no way the birds would’ve stayed separate had this been one layer. XD The lines were drawn eyes closed. I colored while looking — and maintaining vibes Just making sure I don’t get undue credit XD

Comments: it’s technically also a new character from imagination XD;
Edit; just went back and grabbed the time for this piece. Oof. Didn’t realize I spent so long on this but I kept tweaking the sketch. It doesn’t look it. XD

✰ Day: 100 ✰ Theme: the end ✰ Time spent:

Comments: I mocked up this gallery for a past event and like to use it as a way to reflect on my yearly event art. Must say, I had less fav pieces this year than other years. Some years, it’s hard to narrow down so few. This year, it was tough to fill so many. XD But it tracks… it’s how I felt (Plus, I don’t like to include art copies (Aaron Blaise studies) or include art I’ve drawn of other people’s characters. That art/OCs aren’t really mine. So it knocks those pieces out of contention)
Thank you all for the event! I’ll miss seeing everyone’s art until next year!
