I just wrote down so many books to check out. I'm going to be looking up summaries on them for hours! anyways...
Also, although i love a lot of other books, mostly everyone's already put them down, so these are some i don't know if a lot of people have read...
#1. Hero's Song and Fire Arrow by Edith Pattou
#2. The Harper Hall Trilogy by Anne McCaffrey
#3. Silverfall, Stories of the Seven Sisters by Ed Greenwood*
#4. Merlin's Harp by Anne Eliot Crompton**

*this book is one of the only ones that I've liked from the "Forgotten Realms" bunch. It's about seven really amazing women. All magical in their own ways. And its the type of book that goes from ones story, intertwines with the next, and then moves on. SO good.
**If you like King Arthur stories this one is wonderful. If you don't, it's still great.
***Robin Hood sort of story, except from the point of view of Maid Marian. Whom in this book is called just plain Mary. Its small and a light read, But really good.
****I'm pretty sure this classifies as fantasy. Its About Shakespeare's daughter. (even though she's not exactly real) Its a wonderful read.

I can't narrow it down to a short list of series/books, so I'm gonna do this by author and in no particular order...
1. Anne McCaffrey/Todd McCaffrey --Dragonriders of Pern/Harper Hall Trilogy
2. E. E. Knight --Age of Fire Trilogy
2. Eoin Colfer --Artemis Fowl Series + The Supernaturalist
4. J. R. R. Tolkein --Lord of the Rings
5. Diane Duane --So You Want to be a Wizard + Book of Night with Moon + To Visit the Queen
6. Dianna Wynn (sp?) Jones --Howl's Moving Castle + Castle in the Air

I love a lot of books but my top five are in no particular order because it's hard to decide what my actual favorite book is.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan
Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
The Host by Stephenie Meyer
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson
The Circle of Magic quartet and The Circle Opens quartet by Tamora Pierce
Like I said no particular order. I know that it's not actually five books because some are series and quartets and stuff but I really like them all. You should read them.

heart blaugh Must give shoutouts to the already mentioned but still totally awesome: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Harry Potter Series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Edge Chronicles, The Inkheart Trilogy, The Land of Elyon Series(hope I got that right), The Inheritence Trilogy(But in four volumes), The Dresden Files heart wink
If you haven't read these and are wondering why people keep rementioning them its because they a f**king awesome and you must get off your lazy a** and read them RIGHT NOW!!
Also here are some of my favs
Anything by Rould Dahl
Anything by Carol Berg: Especially the Bridge of Dar'nath Series
The Chronicles of Elantra- Michelle Sagara
I have many more favorites but peole already mentioned them.

1. The Rhapsody series by Elizabeth Haydon...seriously amazing books...I can never put one of 'em down when I start reading it.
2. The Shannara series by Terry Brooks...they're just classics, and they should be in every fantasy readers library at some point XD
3. The Baker's Boy trilogy by J.V. Jones...this set has a little darker tone to it, but it'll still keep you hooked all the way through it
4. The Belgariad and Mallorean by David Eddings...kind of the opposite of the above mentioned...lighter reading, fast paced, with details coming at a rate that keeps you involved, yet doesn't make you get a headache trying to keep it all in order
5. Close your eyes and pick one off the shelf. Every fantasy book out there has something to offer, I've only ever picked ONE up that I couldn't get through, due to what I thought was an absolutely horrible writing style, but I'm sure someone liked it. Point is, they're all wonderful, they take you out of this world into one where the rules aren't the same, and sometimes that's just what you need razz
and on a side note, you should prolly read at least one of the Robert Aspirin books...they're just silly enough to make me laugh every time
