"You were attacking her pet dragon!" Ancelot said with a shocked look on his face. It faded though when Cain got upset for him training alone while still injured. Ancelot looked down at the ground for a couple of seconds before raising his head to look at Cain. "I'm sorry Cain." He said lightly, once again he decided not to tell Cain that he fell down the ladder. "I'll take it easy until I'm fully healed." Ancelot said while rubbing the back of his head.

"Your only trying to keep me out of harms way Cain..." Then Ancelot noticed that Cain stopped himself from finishing his sentence. "Cain, what were you going to say?" Ancelot asked curiously.

"Well at least I get to go a couple of hours without pain." Ancelot pointed out. Then he walked back towards his chair and sat down. He began to watch Cain while he was writing. He had no idea what he was up to. A couple of seconds past by before Ancelot broke the silence. "What are you writing about Cain?" He asked, waiting for Cain to respond.

"Hey, when I got there it was trying to rip her head off. It was one of those great Obsidian dragons for hers, I thought she knew what she was doing I didn't realize she actually had to tame them. So yeah it was wasn't happy with me. Wasn't like I got harmed or anything, just my cloak did." The Silence became rather thick for several minutes as the quill scratched away at the parchment.

"I was lecturing you against what I know during my life I forced my men to do. I was a military General and all my men knew that only death was an excuse to stop training their hardest. Yet, here I am telling you to not do that. Is that going to make you weaker or stronger later for it? I controlled one of the strongest armies in the world and they did not get to be that way because I was soft on them." He turned to look at Ancelot, "I cannot allow my personal feelings to get the in the way of your Apprenticeship to a Seeker. Even though I am as she was so delighted to remind me..." There came a ripping sound as the quill cut a gash in the parchment.

"Bother." He huffed and dipped up more ink and kept writing. "There is plenty more tea, I have a store of several weeks worth. I have a feeling I might possibly need it." Finally he folded the letter and walked over to the fireplace. He magicked a fire into the grate and warmed up the a seal bearing the Terenas Coat of Arms. "This letter, its for a future Agwyn. In a 20 minutes from now, 2,380 years in the future, Agwyn and her Mate will arrive downstairs in Hellsmere, wanting to know what this place is. I am leaving a letter of explanation for her. I shall return shortly." He dropped down the ladder and disappeared, leaving the fire crackling in the grate.

A few minutes later Cain returned and with a new cloak at that. "So now that we have that taken care of. What next?"

"Obsidian dragons." Ancelot muttered to himself. He knew that Cain's visit with Agwyn wasn't pleasant. He could tell by the tone of his voice. He kept listening to Cain. He then thought about his village and the task fate had given him."Cain I want to be stronger. My cards were played for me when you saved my life, I am to be a guardian for Silvia so she may enjoy the little time she has." He said, remembering what her fate had in-store for her. "I don't want to be weak like I was during the attack of my village. I want to be stronger to protect those I love from harm." Ancelot started to remember the day when he first met Cain, and how he was basically useless during the fight with the Vashta. He shook his head violently and gripped his lance tightly After a couple of seconds passed he eased up on his grip. Ancelot remained quiet for a couple of moments.

Ancelot watched Cain put the seal onto the envelope. Ancelot began to laugh. "You know what Cain? I have no idea about how all this future, past, thing works." Ancelot said as he started to laugh again. Then he watched Cain head down the ladder. A couple of moments passed by and Ancelot found himself humming his mother's song. He missed her dearly. He remembered when he first met her, he was just a little boy who'd steal food to survive. He remembered her kind she was to him and how soft her voice was. The first meal they ate together was at the local inn, he was also forced to apologize to the bartender for stealing. He remembered how she got him to go home with her. She poked the tip of her lance through his shirt's color and carried him away to her house, where they would live together for several years. She acted like Cain did when he got hurt, and wouldn't allow him to train when he was sore. After remembering all the good moments he had with his mother, Ancelot tilted his head back onto the chair and tears began to run down his face and dripped onto his hand. He had no time to stop and mourn for his mother in a long time.

It didn't last long though, he heard Cain climbing the ladder. He quickly wiped his eyes and hands. Cain reached the top of the ladder. "So did you find a good spot for her 2,380 year old letter?" He joked. "Also Cain, I was wondering if you could train me some more..." Ancelot said softly, still trying to fight back the tears.

"You will not be the one she marries for you know no magic. According to the Bishops of Grey Haven, only a Bishop or Sage may marry a Valkyrie." Cain didn't know why that had come out so snappish, he had not meant for it too. It was probably the visit with Agwyn which had put him so on edge. "I would not expect you to, I do not understand myself. I follow my orders from the Keeper and Head Seeker as best as I possibly can." He was mulling over training Ancelot. "No I will not, clearly that has proven to be too risky, too dangerous. Instead let me introduce you to Amarath."

A shadow that had once been the writing desk moved across the floor to rest on the hearth for the fireplace. Slowly it formed up into a humanoid shape, the Vashta looking unblinkingly at Ancelot.

"This... Human is what you want me to train?" Amarath watched Cain nod. "He is but a child, not even a snack for our kind. Are you such a fool to believe that he can do anything to stop us?" The voice was clearly a she, it was also very sour like it wanted nothing to do with this. Cain said nothing and the creature continued. "You say that if trained properly he will help bring about the end of my Summoner? Yet you know very well where his path will end. Explain how this is possible!" The Vashta's tail lashed about angrily, cutting huge gashes into the floor.

"I would be ever so grateful if you stopped destroying my floor." Cain countered watching the beast sink into a crouch, its wings folded behind its back, its tail curled around itself. "I am well aware, I was Keeper once. I am too soft on the boy, you will not be. Plus, he has a personal vendetta against your kind; they killed his mother. I think that alone will inspire him to do better. I trust you know better then to kill him since I have already explained to you what will happen if you do." Cain turned and walked over to it, saying quietly so Ancelot wouldn't hear: "If you are Silvia's friend you will do this." He turned and with a swish of his cloak he disappeared back downstairs.

"Charming... Well fine then." She looked up at the human, even in a crouch she was only half a foot shorter then him. At full she was well over seven feet, a tail of thirteen ending in the typical scythe. Unlike normal Vashta, her claws were more curved, more like talons. Every inch of her from her muscular more armored hide, powerful fanged jaws and soulless eyes proved her to be a lethal killing machine... In charge of training Ancelot no less! "Hurry up human, I am getting hungry and you look very tasty." She moved to the ladder and with a leap, caught the edge of the next floor in her talons, pulled herself up and vanished out of sight. She would be expecting him soon in the sparring room.

"I'm not going to marry her! It's my duty to protect and befriend her." Ancelot argued. "Besides when I do meet her I'll be a old man!" He stopped though, he knew that Cain was still angry from talking to Agwyn. He thought it was best not to bring her up in the conversation any time soon. He continued to listen to Cain. "Amarath?" Ancelot asked. He didn't see anyone else in the library. Until he looked behind Cain, he saw the shadow move across the floor and stop onto the fire place. His heart sunk. "No..." He thought to himself.

Before him was one of the very things he feared most, a Vashta. "Why?" He kept thinking. He tried his best to stay calm, he was successful, but for his sake he decided not to talk yet. He kept his lance in his hand at all times, he didn't trust her. He knew that she would kill him in a heartbeat, if she had the chance. He shook his head. "I need to trust Cain, and his decisions. After all, I am his apprentice." He thought to himself. He looked over at her, this time his mind was clear. He watched her stand up, she clearly towered over him. He looked up at her, and listened as her tail whipped the floor. Then Cain walked by him. "For Silvia." Ancelot said softly. He then watched Amarath go up the ladder, he soon followed. Once he entered the sparring room he grabbed his lance and shield. He was going to be ready, just in case.

Amarath was pacing around restlessly while Ancelot was gathering both is wits and his weapons. She watched him idly, her talons clicking on the floor as she moved. "Yes Human that is my name Amarath. I was a Sister of Grey Haven, best friend of Sister Silvia. Her mother killed me as she and I fled Grey Haven, she mistook me for her own daughter. This is how Silvia survived the Siege of Haven." The tail carved a cut into the floor. "It seems time is going to be rewritten around you, you special little Human." She growled a little looking up to the ceiling which was changing, massive timber beans were growing out of the walls. Normally they would have been structural supports, there true purpose was revealed when Amarath leaped up onto one, putting about ten feet between her and Ancelot.

"Cain does not feel he is up to the task of teaching you fighting because he cares about you. He believes he would hold back, hesitate to land powerful or even fatal blows against you. He is correct because he is human. Fear not, I hold no alliance to you. The Mistress would not object to your death, Cain wishes you to survive, I could care less. I will not hold back, I will kill you should you prove weak." She leaped to another timber and continued her speech from there.

"Cain also feels your best hope for survival lies in you learning to master your fear. He knows you fear us because of what we are, what we took from you." She leaned down, talons digging into the wood. "Know this Human, I was not present at the killing for you mother nor will I be throughout the rest of your life. I am from the future, I am doing purely as a favour to Sister Silvia and because I hate my Mistress that much." Snarling a little she dropped to the floor now, standing up and looking down at him.

"I see you are not a novice at holding a lance and shield, I could not teach you anything regarding the proper usage or techniques. I am nothing more then a existing target that is rather aggressive and hungry. I have promised Cain I will not bite you and so not poison you. I disagree with this, as personally if you are going to be fighting us, my kind will not hold back. If you are to develop any hope of immunity to our poison you must be exposed to it. However..." She sounded a bit annoyed at the removal of one of her weapons. "I think that is enough talking for now." True to her word, her tail shot out in an attempt to decapitate him.

Ancelot quickly jumped out of the way, her tail missed him by mere inches. Before she could coil back her tail he stabbed his lance into the middle of her tail, causing it to burst into flames. His heart was now racing as he withdrew his lance from her tail. He glared into her eyes, he could tell she wasn't to happy. "If you'd like, use full force. I will not learn if you hold back." He said coldly. This time he dashed forward and swiped at her feet. Being very cautious of her tail. He then took his lance by the hilt and gave a mighty slash up at the timber beans, causing them to fall down. He used his shield to cover his head from the timber beans, they began to burn due to the lance's fire and sparks of fire fell down with it. This gave him some protection for a couple of seconds. He looked back towards Amarath, the sparks of fire lit up his eyes. He was now ready to fight seriously. He was now calm. The sparks of fire finally subsided. He went into a defensive stance this time and watched her carefully.

The Vashta disliked fire intently. She leaped out of the way of his slash at her feet, melding into the floor until his little fire display was over. She reappeared and took to the air with her wings, careful to stay away from his lance. "Ah yes, I should have known Cain was up to some trickery. The Firebrand, the lance that made a race extinct. History said it belonged to the Hildegarde family. Warren, Cain's father took it by force from the Teneras family; killed them and took Serena to boot. Course she was renamed Selena to hide her filthy blood." Amarath snarled, taking to the air with a few powerful beats of her wings.

"Clever Human, you might have taken away the beams but I can still fly." She landed across the room and with a few snarls ripped apart a charred beam and made a six foot makeshift spear from the core of the good wood. She took back to the air, "think Human, the battlefield and your opponent are ever changing. It looked like she was going to dive bomb him, except she threw the spear at him first before bearing down upon him, talons and fangs exposed.

Ancelot's eyes narrowed as he raised his shield to deflect the spear, he gave a small smirk. Before the spear could hit him, he quickly spun out of the way, causing the spear to impale the ground behind him, and raised his shield to meet her instead. He dug his feet into the floor due to the collision, he was giving it all just to push her back. It worked until his shield was flung into the air, so he quickly jumped away from her and prepared his lance. He then saw the spear that she made, it was still sticking into the ground, then he had a great idea. He made it look like he was charging after her, but then he quickly turned right and grabbed the spear. He touched the top part with his lance causing it to catch on fire. He then threw it at her, while she was distracted by the spear he tossed, he too jumped into the air. He focused all of his energy into his lance, all of a sudden the lance's head was engulfed in flames. He then slashed at her, leaving a stream of fire in the air. "Take this!" He yelled. The fire grew larger at the lance's head, the streams of fire behind him danced lively while he slashed. It looked as if the flames were alive.

Even Amarath would admit the idea was very sound and it worked as far as he'd planned it out. The spear she batted away with her tail, flying headlong into the fire he'd created in air, uncaring about the flames that were burning her. She tackled him to the floor and her jaws lunged at his throat.

"I said no!" There was a hissing and snapping sound, while Cain was panting heavily. He'd appeared at some point or maybe had been watching the whole time. Amarath's jaws had been firmly forced closed by a lash of some kind. The lash lead to a whip that was in his hand and Cain was pulling back on it. keeping Amarath from biting Ancelot. "I told you, you cannot kill him. Despite how you and the Mistress feel about him." Cain was struggling to hold her back.

Amarath looked to Ancelot and leaped off him, making sure to whack him in the head with her tail in the process. Two bounds and she had the makeshift muzzle off her and Cain pinned to the wall, her jaws snapping at him. Though she was still burning, she was shedding the burning coat as the Meld was regenerating a new one.Cain grabbed her jaws, struggling to throw her off him. Why he didn't just use magic was a very good question.

Ancelot's body crashed to the ground with a loud thud from her tackle. He had to use all of his strength just to keep her from biting him. He barely held her up, due to her overwhelming strength. He gazed into her eyes, they were lit with rage. He knew that she wanted him dead. So Ancelot held her up from him for a couple seconds before Cain came and got her off him. He then landed holding his face first into the floor after she whacked him with her tail. He slowly stood up, backing away slowly from her until he reached a corner. His heart was racing, while he watched Cain restrain her.

"Cain... this is my fault. I told Amarath to go all out on me. If anyone should be blamed it is me." Ancelot said with his back to the wall. He looked over at Amarath, she was still glaring at him evilly. He looked down at his feet. "I'm sorry..." Ancelot apologized. He could tell Amarath wasn't happy with him at all. He then climbed down the ladder so he wouldn't get into Cain's way. Once he got down the ladder and into the library, he sat in a chair close to the fireplace. He began to think about what Amarath said and about their battle. "I cannot be afraid anymore. I must cast aside my fears." Ancelot thought He looked into the fire and started to hum his mother's song to relax. He waited patiently for Cain to come down the ladder.

There came rather loud shout from Cain before there was a loud cracking sound. From the fire place came another shadow, this one formed up into Kadar, who was back as a Cron and not his disguise as a horse. The Cron looked over at Ancelot curiously before sniffing the air and looking to wards the ladder. Cain gave another shout and there came a bang and a thud; Cain had pulled the trapdoor shut and landed in the library.

"Your fault!" Cain barked at him looking angry. "Yeah it is, you basically told her to eat you!" He stopped and looked to Kadar. "Oh right... So she's been here has she Kadar? The Cron nodded. "Good. I figured Hellsmare might throw off the history of time if she didn't get an answer." His right shoulder cracked a little more which drew his attention back to it. "Just like mother." He jerked his head toward the trapdoor. "blood thirsty, insane and sometimes I think totally insane." He looked down to the small black puddle that had formed under his arm on the floor.

"Bit me obviously. Never should have let her have you without myself being around. Can't trust a free Vashta, never. Things that think for themselves are dangerous. Not always evil, just dangerous and often misunderstood. Now how about some more tea?" With that he headed down to the kitchens. Kadar snorted, sniffing the black meld on the floor before licking it up.

Ancelot closed his eyes after hearing the loud thud. Ancelot looked back towards the ground. "I'm sorry Cain." Ancelot apologized, he was still looking at the ground. He then noticed that Cain's arm was bleeding! He looked at Cain, but he had already noticed before Ancelot could tell him. "Are you alright? We should wrap that up Cain!" Ancelot told him. He then began to walk towards the ladder that leads to the kitchen. When he got to it he fell over again, the pain was back and it was worse than before. He didn't want Cain to worry so he stood back up, bearing the pain so Cain wouldn't notice. "Yeah, some more tea sounds good." Ancelot said, still trying to hide the pain. He watched Cain go down first then looked over at Kadar licking up the meld. Then he went down the ladder real slow so he wouldn't fall again. He then took a seat at the table. "Hey Cain is Amarath okay? I heard a really loud thud and then you came down bleeding... this is all my fault..." Ancelot said sadly,
PostPosted: Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:53 pm

"Oh, yeah. Told ya, you can only kill those things by first turning the Meld into a liquid and then freezing it." He stopped and looked back to Ancelot. "I did tell you that right?" He could not actually remember if he did mention it. "That or kill the caster and you have as much hope of that as I have of marriage," he grinned for a moment, "maybe its possible then." He waked over and grabbed two mugs and set them down on a counter.

"Well I kind of blew her off me with a nice fireball, but the poison in her fangs was messing up my magic and I lost control of it." He poured both mugs full and then got a bowl down, careful to make sure the meld didn't drip into the tea. One at time he carried them over to the table and finally returned with the bowl, which he set on the floor so the Meld dripped into it. "Kadar will enjoy that, so I figure I should save it." He seemed very unconcerned about the whole issue.

"I know you are hurting again." His eyes narrowed and he gritted his teeth as his shoulder seemed to move and change. "See if i remember how to do this." He muttered as his shoulder gave several grating sounds and finally with a crack settled back into place. "By the... That hurts, gives me a of respect for those three now. Playing the hero isn't easy." He took a sip of tea. "The poison will have to bleed out, the tea will help speed out the extraction by regenerating the Meld I lose. To do this would be dangerous to a human, as you suffer from blood loss. We get brittle, however that wont happen as..." A wine goblet appear full of some crimson liquid. "We have this."

His eyes narrowed at Ancelot again. "Ask no questions and I will tell no lies." Though he figured Ancelot was smart enough to know what was in there. "To your better health and your future Ancelot." With the toast complete he drank to it, already feeling better as his magic accepted the payment.

"Actually you never told me that before. I thought you had to kill them with magic." Ancelot said as he laughed at Cain's joke. "She told me about her poison." Ancelot said. All of a sudden he remembered the attack on the village. "Cain... can Vashta poison people through there claws" Ancelot asked with a worried look on his face. "If so, do you remember when the village was attacked and a Vashta slashed my face... I think I may be poisoned." Ancelot said with a worried tone in his voice. He then took a sip of tea from the mug. "What will happen to me if I am poisoned?" Ancelot asked. He was trying his best not to panic, but it was hard for him not to. He started to drink more of the tea. He no longer knew what to say. Then he looked at Cain's arm. "Cain you're poisoned! Will you be alright? Ancelot was now worried about Cain, but after Cain told him that the tea will help rid the poison from his body he calmed down a little. He took the last drink of tea from his mug and set it down on the table. His hand was shaking nervously as he waited for Cain to say something.
