Priests: Clerics
Divine spellcaster which calls upon the powers of a divine being or concept or power to use magic. Usually, they are tough and battle ready in most medieval societies, oddly to protect their lands from invaders. Lands or parishoners. Clerics can fight on equal terms with most rogues, but cannot match swords with fighters.
Cleric spells usually reflect their diety and are usually limited to codes of honour or such things. Spells are granted by the divine will, so things that are not used to further that will are not granted.
Clerics often use specific weapons because their divine being/power insists on their use or forbides the use of other weapons.
*White Mages are sometimes considered clerics, but they can exist as a type of wizard that specializes in magic similar to a clerics.

Druids
A type of priest-like person who comunes with nature to gang power or champion nature's cause. Usually have spell-like abilities and various magics to protect or steward the natural world.
Special relationships with animals. Often they gain animal followers through no act of thier own, but the animal's loyalty to the druid is often unbreakable. Sometimes, special druids call themselves 'Beast Masters' and devote their lives to the protection of animals, often gaining the trust of many strange but powerful natural beasts.
Some druids can change shape into natural creatures, and other nature related things. Some druids who shapechange are know for become larger or smaller versions of the animal, or elemental creatuers. A few druids claim to be able to transform into dragons and similar beasts.
Druids often prove resourceful in natural environments, and often shun city living.

Masters of Human Nature: Rogues
The rogue is a capable individual. Usually outlaws, they are the dungeon crawlers and lockpicks that scourage the civilized world for treasure and raid forgotten ruins for ancient relics. They are the ones who stab each other in the back, as well as are experts at dodging harm. They are oppertunistic, and often capable of the strangest things. They are the most experienced interpretures of human ways and often master lying and cheating, as well as detecting and spoting liars and cheaters. The fight fairly profficently, but cannot match blades with a true expert on equal footing, though they are quite harmful to the unweary warrior.

Champions: Paladins
The knights who fight for valour and recieve favour from the gods or other divine inspirations are usually called Paladins, in tradition of the twelve Paladins of Charlemange. These warriors can match blades quite well with fighters.
Paladins sometimes recieve special mounts from their patron diety, a horse or other creature that becomes part of thier being. The relationship between the Paladin and the horse exceeds the normal relationship between man and beast, and it often appears as though they can commune.
Being favoured by the gods, they are pretty tough. They have healing magics, wear the heaviest and best armour, carry strong shields and wield righteous weapons all under the name of justice or other such high and might moral characters. On top of that, they get helped by the god in ways that most mortals cannot begin to understand.
From time to time, Paladins are seen using powerful priestly magic which should be beyond them, but no one ever seems to complain.

Masters of the Wild: Rangers
Rangers were once humans trained by elves to be protecters of the weak and all around good guys. They are often associated with people who work in the forests and mountains, often as guides and law enforcers. Sometimes, rangers are simply people who... Well, this class covers alot of different things. More or less, a ranger is a fighter who adopts nature into his fighting style, often gaining strange magical buffs to increase his fighting style or ability to travel through the natural world. They are often expert trackers, some of whom can follow the specifically one eyed gobline who passed over that rocky out croppy a week earlier and it snowed yesterday.
Rangers are usually know for fancing melee fighting, using one or two swords, or with long range archery or similar type combat, often firing an ungodly amount of ammuntion rather accurately.

The Life Blood of the Universe in the Hands of Mortal Men: Wizards and Sorcerers
Yes, a absolute power that almost always absolutely corrupts. The wizards and sorcerers and other type of magicians know quite well the lure and enchament the realm of magic can place on a being's mind. Think, for a moment you can transform any object into any other object, truly acting as god over the material world! The endless possibilities of applying the principles of magic to daily life and the manipulation of the sense that can be achieved by focusing the energies or literally, manipulating the senses. This magic-using archetype is usually riddle with madmen and wisemen, both of whom seem to be unlimitedly powered by some crazy and unthinkable power.
What is the difference between sorcery and wizardry? Why, those two words are more or less the same. Interpretation or subclassification can apply specific meanings to words like these, as well as Summoner, Evocater, Enchanter, Illusionist, Sage, Alchemist, Black Mage, Abjourer, etc.
For argument and time saving sake, Sorcerers don't know how they have power and wizards do.

Elemental Magic and the Missconception of Difference
Apparently, Elemental magic is concieved to be the evocation of the elements into a form of attack or impulse or whatever. The problem with view the various types of elements as seperate categories of magic is the inability to explain why it is possible to combine the elements to create new forms of magic.
IF wind mana is applied to fire mana, strange stuff happens. This combination and the similar combinations made between the different elements goes to show that their is some connectivity between each element. The elements offer the base component to the spell, either through access to the elemental plane or through present elemental componets on the material plane enable a spellcaster to reshape them into his liking. It is all the same process of evocation applied to the various elements.
The method is the same, but the source is changed. That does not create a new school of magic, it simply means that you are using a different portal or connection to manipulate the substance. Theoretically, there is no justifiable reason, save inability to connect to a different plane, for a wizard to be able to use one type of elemental magic and not another.

Re-Writing Magic in Terms of Elemental Properties
It is possible to apply an elemental character to each and every spell, which in tern implies that all magic can be re-classified in an elemental field.
Thus, the four basic elements can be used to 'recreate' magic into a more simplier form. Simplicity is the goal of science, and thus using the simpler classification system is appropriate to magic.
This point of view suggests that the actual processess and effects are the result of using the elemental energies to manipulate the prime material plane. Each and every spell activates energy from one or more of the elemental planes and causes an effect.
For example, Illusions can be described as figments of light, thurmal and physical force to create the impression that a thing is there when in truth it is not. By manipulating the light (minor plane) to create the spectral image, the heat can be called from the fire plane, and the force from the earth to create more or less the object you wish to create as an illusion.
So, if all magic can be deemed impulses from the elemental planes... I guess each element could be a school of magic.

Cheese
A type of food made from the milk of an animal, often yellow in colour. Its task depends on the processsing that is done to it, ranging from a mild to a tangy texture. It is usually served as a side dish or a toping on another food. Sometimes, it is holely, others times it smells funny.
I think it tastes rather nicely ontop of crackers.
I enjoy swiss cheese on beef, and marble on bread. Chedder is pretty damn sexy when it is covering the half concealed topings on a nice plate of nochos.
--> cheesy is a negitive connotation for things that are too powerful; IE, Nelphean Brightsabre is cheesy.

Combat Style Verus Combat Stength.
Style is so much cooler than strength. Brutish tactics only take you so far, but once you get a real grove on, you are unstopable.
Then again, I only manage to win most fights because the weapons I wield are smart enough to know where they need to be, when they need to be there, and my multitude of illusions help... And the gun. The gun is pretty nasty too.

Colour Magic
Black, Blue, Red, White.
Black magic is basic attack spells and other misc. things like that, often very destructive or ability boosting. Haste and similar spells are often placed in this category, but sometime cross into White Magic.
Blue Magic is based on abilities learned from other creatures or monsters through various means. Some blue mages train with the animals, other simply learn the ability from having it used on them, and a few gain them from drinking the blood or eating the creature.
Red Magic is a combination of White and Black magic within a single spellcaster. He usually cannot gain the same amount of power as a specialist would, but has a wider range of spells.
White Magic is usally associated with curative and protective spells and abilities. The most powerful white magic spells often counteract the most powerful Black magic spells. The White Mage is many an adventurer's beast friend.

Imps
Lesser devil associated with trickery and simply being annoying. Commonly believed to be the weakest of devils, but experience is often a better teacher than texts.
Given time, a single imp can destroy an entire nation simply by playing games and having a good time. Two imps can whip out an entire speices of animal within a hundred years if they are determined to do so.
It is commonly believed that they can be traped, which is a pretty laughable concept. Imps can and often do open their own gateways to other planes for no reason other than they are bored of the one they are on. They will and have opened gates to elemental planes and allowed the destructive atmosphere and creatures enter the prime material plane.
These devils seem childish, but they are usually quite old, ranging from billions to moles of years old.
If a creature's conception time is measured by a fraction of its total life, it has been guessed that an imp is in the womb for about a hundred thousand years. Then again, machines have been built that can construct imps at a rate of two per minute. Such devices are used by stronger devils wishing harm upon those around them.
Imps are simply uncontrollable.
Imp = Self motivated.
