Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade.
_______________________________Hide your face so the world will never find you...

Nathaniel

Nathaniel stood from the bears when Grace entered the tent. She looked... worn. He carefully walked over to her, sitting next to her and nodding as he carefully took the basket from her. "I'll be alright, Miss Grace." He kept his head down, setting a shaky hand on top of the basket. It was warm. He sighed slightly, then swallowed, unable to hold in his excitement for the food. How long had it been since someone had prepared a meal for him? Nathaniel's shoulders lowered at the thought and he turned his head away from Grace again. He couldn't stand to look at her now.

Grace looked around after Nathaniel had taken the basket. Her eyes deverted back to Nathaniel.

"No one else is here. It's safe to eat. I'll leave and give you some privacy... If you want something else let me know. There isn't much else but if you don't like rice, cheese or bread..."

Grace turned to leave hoping that he would stop her and let her stay. Or tell her some sort of thank you. Although she didn't really need it. After opening the door she walked out leaving it flowing back and forth a little till it hung back in place. The tent grew dark again except for the candle light that was placed through out the tent. While Nathaniel was in the tent eating she was going to go find Mr. Siff and see if she could get Nathaniel's kitten. Perrine must still be with him she thought. After a bit of traveling she walked into an area where she knew that Siff walked.

Siff noticed that Grace was snooping around in this forbidden area and turned in the mist to look at her fogged out figure.

"What do you want Grace?"

Grace stood up strait and put her hands together. Her heart started to beat a little more quickly. Normally asking Siff for a favor was very unwise but she would ask for the kitten. For Nathaniel she would ask Siff to give the kitten back.

"Sir... Might I bother you, to get Perrine back."

"No, you may not. If Nathaniel wants his kitten back I'll give it to him myself. Surely you should know that is what I'd do. At least by now you should know me that well."

He turned putting his hand over his jacket side where the kitten was kept.

"Understood..."

"Good, now. If anyone wants to talk with me tell them I'm busy. I won't be gifting anyone with my presence for the rest of the evening."

Siff left disappearing into the fog.

Grace paused and then started to head back to midway.

"I knew I couldn't get his kitten back..."

She whispered to herself.

"I should go back and check on Nathaniel and tell him I couldn't find Perrine."

"I thought bikes were dangerous? Are you sure I'd be able to learn how to ride one. Even with you on the bike?"

Walks along with Huck. Her blush had gone away and she smiled a little bit still remembering how he fell. He looked kind of adorable when he did that although adorable or handsome is the last thing a guy wants to be called right? Especially from a girl.

Huck smiled. "Sure it is . . . but so's gettin' up in the morning, y'know?" he asked as they walked. It was taking all he could to hold himself back from kissing her right there and then. God, I want to so bad, but a beautiful thing like her probably has a boyfrie- huh, that never stopped that cousin of mine in Mississippi. he thought. Still kinda blushing, he shook it off as he finally found his motorbike.

Senna walked up to his bike with him and touched the metal of the handle. It was definitely cold after sitting out there for so long. She looked over to him and found his fluffy hair poking out of his hat. She quickly looked down to the handle of the bike not knowing what on the bike was what really... She never even rode a bicycle before. A unicycle but she didn't like it that much.

"Anyway... how does it work? How long does it work?"

((Waiting on Soulless and then I'll post for Grace for Aya and the others.))

Remaining hesitant, the young acrobat continued his observation from where he stood. Bobby didn't want to live there, even if they DID fix the place up. Considering it was so far from the rest of the in-use tents, and it was in the middle of the muddy ruined caravans-- what if something happened? Okay, something always happened no matter which place he managed to hide... but the 'caravan graveyard' always creeped him out, and he couldn't imagine permanently taking up residence there.

"I ... I don't think I should..."

He glanced up at his parents nervously, taking a step closer to the frame of the door.

Huck smiled and put his arm around her. "Should still have gas in it, but first thing ya gotta do is get on." he said, before finally giving into temptation about the whole thing. Before he could stop himself . . . he kissed her. Not like one of those friendly peck-on-the-cheek things either. A big romantic one . . . of course, in the back of his mind, he wasn't sure how well this was going to go over.

((hehe, Sorry to put ya on the spot, Maho, but I figured this oughta shake things up!))

The moment Huck kissed Senna she blushed before going almost faint. She had never been kissed before and it took her by complete surprise. Before her brain, or her body even knew what to do it just sort of, all blanked out for a moment. She caught herself just as she was about to slip from him and then pushed back on his shoulders.

"Huck... You haven't even asked me out yet..."

She said in a kind of whisper. Senna really liked Huck but thought it would be better if he did this think in the proper way. Like the kind of way people usually do it. Get to know each other, ask each other out, date, kiss, then have a life together... But at least it answered her question if he liked her. Although she hoped that it meant that he liked /her/ and not how she looked.

"Let's wait a little. I want to know if you really like me for who I am... first..."

She whispered looking away.

Grace returned to the tent she left Nathaniel in a bit ago. She walked in a little slowly so that way if he was still eating or his mask was off he had time to place it back.

"Nathaniel, I couldn't find Perrine. Has she, returned to you yet?"

She said in a soft forgiving tone. Grace walking in a bit further and looked around before walking over to Nathaniel.

Bobby's mother grabbed put her arms around Robert and pulled him into a hug.

"Please, we don't want to lose you again. It's safe here... it just needs some work. Please stay with your father and I. We love you and we wouldn't do anything to hurt you."

When Huck pulled back, he was blushing HEAVILY. "Sorry . . . k-kinda jumped th' gun." he said shyly. She seemed like a very wonderful person . . . and the fact that she was an angel just about hadn't crossed his mind.

"err . . . wouldja like to? I mean, if that's okay." he mentioned. Boy, he screwed up this time!

Nathaniel

After Grace had left, Nathaniel brought the basket over to the other side of the tent, hiding from the light that crept through the tent's opening behind the bears. He curled over the basket, flinging it open and staring at it's contents for a moment before grimacing. He yanked his mask off his face and dropped it to the floor. In the shadow of the tent and the bears, Nathaniel stuffed his face with bread and rice, ignoring the utensils; he grabbed rice by the handful and swallowed. Nearly immediately, he broke down and tears began streaming down his face, mixing in with his food and giving it all a salty sweet taste. He felt like a child, wiping his cheeks of tears only once with the back of his hand and continuing to scarf the food down. He even made a few loud hiccups, trusting the bears to protect him as he showed his weaknesses.
He finished after just ten minutes, and he had calmed down as well. He sat limply, head hung and red eyes downcast. He stared at his hands, which lie limp in front of his knees on the dirty ground. They were filthy. He closed his eyes and frowned as he heard the pitter-patter of rain begin beating the ground yet again outside of the tent. He felt a sudden nudge on his shoulder and looked up to see Ambrose, his giant nose sniffing Nathaniel's hair and his deep brown eyes boring into Nathaniel's eyes. After a moment, Nathaniel smiled softly. The bear wasn't frightened at all, was it? He set a hand on Ambrose's cheek and felt the comforting breath of the bear whisk across his face. Then, little Theo tromped over to him and began sniffing the rice that had been dropped on the floor. Nathaniel laughed weakly and stood carefully, picking up the basket and taking it with him to the edge of the tent. "Please, be my guests." He sighed as he set the empty picnic basket on the edge of the dark tent and reached his hand under it to wash his hands with the rain. He then went back to the middle of the tent where the bears had been, picked up his mask, and positioned it back on his face just as Grace returned.
He adjusted the mask as she entered the tent, speaking to him in that sweet voice she had. He swallowed, afraid of trusting her. However, he turned to her and tried ignoring his discomfort around her. At her question he shook his head, bowing his head slightly. Where could she be? It actually began to ache as he thought of her. What if something awful had happened to her? Nathaniel began to feel guilty about it all.

Grace looked to Nathaniel and noticed that the basket was empty. She was glad that he seemed to be able to get some relief while she was gone and hoped that Siff would not disturb them as he said he would. Grace walked further into the tent and pet the bears who were also happy to see her.

"Were they being good for you Nathaniel?"

She asked as she pet Ambrose and snuggled his head. Grace paused a moment once again thinking on Perrine. She knew that Siff had the kitten and was pretty sure she was with him. A chill crept up her back and she shook her head a moment trying be rid a thought. The thought that Siff could be doing something worse to Perrine then he had already done to her. She straitened up hoping Nathaniel wouldn't know how edgy or afraid she seemed to be getting. Grace never had a friend in the carnival but the animals. She cared for the sick and hurt, tried to help people not get in trouble but her relationships never stemmed out any further than just that. Here, she felt like she could trust Nathaniel and didn't want him to worry or distrust her.

"I'm sorry... It's raining outside and it's getting dark. Tomorrow we should go out and find perrine and hope that she is somewhere safe and warm tonight."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It's not your fault... completely"
Senna blushed looking away from Huck. She held her arm kind of nervously and fidgeted her fingers against her vest.
"I just, relationships never end well for me. I'm no Angel... And I also don't ask for that kind of attention. I don't remember things very well a lot of times. Ever since I was little... And I don't want anyone using me for their personal gains anymore."
Senna wanted to trust Huck, but the fact that he was another guy already made her suspicious. Her trust was very hard to get, and keep not only because of her past experiences but her memory as well. She didn't want to forget that she trusted him and burden him with something she couldn't remember. Senna bit her lip as she looked down at the ground. Her shoulders tense as she felt kind of anxious and cautious of the situation. Her eyebrows furled and her eyes become watery. What could she remember of people using her anyway?
Huck looked puzzled for a minute. "No angel? Well, y'coulda fooled me." he said. He paused for a bit, hearing her out.
"Don't worry. My parents taught me t' respect folks, even if they were diff'rent'n me. I 'ssure you I ain't usin' any'un fer anythin'." he mentioned. His renegade twang softened a little bit. He wanted her to be okay with him. He really did.
"Hell, if it makes you feel better, I've never really been in one m'self t'be honest . . . " he said. It was true, too.
Huck never did have much of a love life . . . sure, like any boy his age, he knew about women. There was no surprise there, but any time he was close into one, there was always one thing . . . that one thing that had him back out on the trail. However, the urge to keep moving around seemed to slow up around Senna. Could she possibly be the one to get Huck to stop moving around and living the Gypsy life?
Nathaniel
Nathaniel raised his head to Grace, nodding when she asked if the bears were good. They were always good to him. He now realized that these bears had done more for him than anyone else ever had. He set his hand on Ambrose's head and sighed happily, now with his head to the bear. Grace then continued, telling Nathaniel that they weren't to look for Perrine until morning. He immediately frowned and bit the inside of his cheek. No. Internally, he immediately decided that he'd disobey Grace directly, not ready to spend a night without Perrine. If he didn't know she was safe, he wouldn't sleep anyway. Might as well spend his sleepless night searching.
But he kept all these plans from Grace, not willing to let her keep him from it, which he was sure she'd do. He looked over to her again, pulling his hand away from Ambrose. He nodded to her suggestion. "Goodnight, then, Miss Grace." He turned away and joined Theo in the middle of the room, slowly crouching down and lying on his side, trying to get Grace to think he was trying to sleep.
"But, it doesn't... look safe."
Bobby stared at portions of the rotting caravan as his 'mother' hugged him. How unsettling this was. But what was he supposed to do, turn around and run out the door just to head back into a different kind of trouble? He was seriously contemplating this option...
"Good Night Nathaniel. Keep safe, and stay here okay."
She said a little more quietly as she walked over and picked up the basket wrapping her arm in the handle ready to leave. Grace was ready to get back to her own tent to sleep for the night and forced herself to accept that Nathaniel would rather be with the bears at night. Mostly due to her lack of trust in the animals with new comers. She sighed and looked back one last time before leaving the tent quietly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Angels, are childhood fairy tails. It's what parents tell children to make them feel safe. As if someone would be watching out for them. Sure some people could guard and protect others. I could do that much if I wanted and I could put in my all but at the end of the day I'm only human."

She looked down at the bike and knelt down to the metal objects under the seat. "An exposed motor?" She thought to herself. "These never really looked that safe and how do you keep it balanced with only two tires going that fast?"

"I hope that we can help Bobby though. I don't know if you want to help me but I want to do anything I can to help him."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Looks aren't everything Bobby. Remember, everything shouldn't always be taken fully at first glance."
She pulled her son away from the door over to a couch that was in the caravan. It smelt of dust and musty from the moisture in the caravan graveyard. The red velvet lost it's luster and was now a light, faded red brown. Bobby's mother placed him on the couch as his father closed the door and opened a few very small windows. They were a bit jammed and he had to jar them open with the strength of his arms and hands slowly cracking the mud off the edges of the window. A little bit of a breeze blew in and stirred up the dust just before it cleared out a bit leaving only the smell.
"I think this place will serve well to keep us all together and safe from Mr. Siff."
