KasumiAngel FreeYourSoul I'm getting very nervous about my rapidly approaching EDD. I'm already feeling contractions and get somewhat excited with each. Then there's that small negative thought that pops into my head which makes me think something will go wrong. I know it's just from how nervous I am, but I can't seem to help it at times. Anywho, I plan to have a natural birth. I was just wondering if anyone alse made the same option. Any tips to help me stay as calm and relaxed as possible as I approach the moment? I had both of my boys naturally. Ty's was by plan; Luke was technically planned to be that way, but he ended up coming so quickly any birth plan was really a moot issue. For Ty though, I tried my best to rest between the contractions. According to my husband he and the midwife both thought I was asleep through most of it. For me relaxing wasn't that difficult, but I had a very supportive husband and midwife with me. The midwife kept anyone and everyone out of the room that didn't need to be there... which was more or less everyone. They kept the lights low, and I had the option of playing relaxing music if I wanted it. They really worked to make it as quiet and personal experience as possible. Best advice I'd offer would be to think about what helps you relax most because what worked for me may not work for you. Work those things into your birthplan... As things start to approach, I'm starting to think about what I want to pack in my overnight hospital bag, and stuff like that. I can't even REMEMBER what all I brought with me last time!! stressed I know I had some printouts of calming/soothing pictures which I read might be a comfort to look at while in labor, but for me they didn't work, and I wanted them AWAY from me! I'm going to try again this time with something different, just in case, but if I want them AWAY from me again, that's ok! LOL And I'm going to try to wait as long as possible this time before going in so I'm not hooked up to IV's and contraction machines and blood pressure machines, and I can get up or walk around or take a soothing bath/shower if I want. Last time I could have waited to go in, but I was unsure if my water had actually broken or not (it was just a slight leak), so we went in to test for sure, and then they just kept me there.

Yeah... the machines are crazy. I hated those. I had the opposite problem with my second--I waited too long to go in, and Luke ended up being born in the ER and had been minutes away from being born in the parking lot or the car. That's part of the reason why I'm doing homebirth this time around. I don't want to deal with that since the machines and people tend to stress me out more than anything. I don't even know what I want for my "birthplan" this time. I vaguely remember packing some stuff 6 years ago for Ty that I never even looked at till after he was born; it just stayed in the bag. We had more elaborate plans for Luke, but he was supposed to take more time coming in that plan. xd I guess the easy thing about being at home is that my husband can get me anything I decide I want.

I had my (hopefully last) prenatal appointment this morning at 11:30ish. Well other than the discomfort which comes from a pelvic exam, I found out that I finally started dialating. He told me I wasn't even a centimeter yet, but at least I know I'm finally on my way to holding this little guy in my arms. 3nodding

I wish I had pictures to post! It's my due date and still nofing. crying I'm tired of being pregnant, I just want to be able to hold him now. Everyone's waiting on his arrival, not just me. Unfortunately his father won't be around for the baby's birth. Well I have an appointment tomorrow and I'm sure they'll bring up inducing labor. Hopefully it won't come to that though. Wish me luck.

@Angelique: That's great. *envies* I don't know what I'm having yet, but I can't see myself actually having a girl--there's just too many boys in this family.

Congrats Angelique! I know I shouldn't be thinking about it yet but I hope my next one is a girl.
Well, the doc decided to give me until the 16th before inducing. I have another appointment next week and that's when he'll talk to me about what would be best if I don't give birth before then. Until then though, all that's left to do is keep going to the non stress test at the hospital and talking to my little bundle, hoping that'll he'll show himself soon.
On a side note, has anyone here ever been induced? I'm really nervous about the idea, and would rather not have it done if I can avoid it (come on munchkin help me out here!). I know there's a greater chance of having a c-section when you're induced, and that's really what worries me. I want to experience the birth of my son the way it was meant to be experienced.

Congratulations Angelique! Do you have girl names picked out?
FYS, they gave me Pitocin to help induce things after labor was not progressing to their satisfaction about 6 or so hours after my water had broken. (But that's not long! Looking back, I wish I had chosen to give it its own time, because the contractions while on Pitocin, although fast (she was out 2 hours later) were so much stronger and horribly worse!) My sister had a good point when it came to birthing plans, that saying specifically, "If I need to be induced with Pitocin, make sure I already have the epidural in, or waiting there ready to go!" That would have made a big difference. My anesthesiologist was called right away, but he didn't show up for those whole 2 hours, and then she was born 5 minutes later.
There are other forms of induction though, including just breaking your water which is sometimes enough. I hadn't heard induction gives greater chance of C-sections though?

Induced births DO have increased risks of medical interventions being needed including C-sections.
I'm trying to remember the stats I saw for the births in 2006, but something like 40% were induced and over 1/3--close to 40% as well if I recall correctly--were C-sections. sweatdrop Scary.
I haven't been induced, but my mother's last birth with my brother was and he was a C-section birth. The fact that your doc won't consider it until you're 42 weeks along is a good sign and when it does need to be done. After 42 weeks, your placenta starts to rot and that's a bad thing. xp
I want to applaud you for being confident enough to stick your guns and not be bullied into it either.
Too many people have them with no need now: either being scared by mythical too big babies--which is rare, only something like 5% of women ever make babies too big to birth vaginally--or being impatient or having an impatient doc who feels like doing it for the hell of it. Unless I ever go over due, I refuse to be induced. I don't care if I'm being threatened with having a 15 pound baby. I know they're often wrong and I'd rather take my chances seeing how things play out then take unneccesary interventions and then find out there was no need after the fact.

I think the main point to remember is that as long as your baby is safe and healthy inside, maybe they're just being a prankster for not coming out on time! I mean, there's not this oven timer to tell you exactly what time baby is done, so you can only go based on what your body tells you and what the doctors tell you. I think as long as baby is well, then you don't need to worry about the weight/size so much as they'd lead you to believe.
My mother in law says sex is a good way to induce labour? Apparently that's how she ended up having her son pop out, as he was overdue!

Congrats Yuna and good luck to you FYS. I was kind of induced with my son and ended up having a c-section. They started me off on something call Cervadil to soften my cervix before the pitocin. Well the Cervadil put me in labor within an hour of them inserting it so I never did get the pitocin. After pushing for around 3 hours my son's heart rate started to drop and he wasn't moving down any so an emergancy c-section was decided on. It ended up he was trying to come out at an angle and whenever I pushed he was being jammed into my pelic bone. For like the first few days he had some red marks on the side of his face and head from it.
As for the new little peanut, I have my first doctor's appointment coming up this Wednesday. I am excited. I plan on asking him if he does or knows or any doctors in my area who will help with a VBAC. I am really hoping so because I have little desire to have another c-section. I am also having fun with horrible morning (noon and night) sickness again. Not as bad as with Ethan but still bad enough to make me miserable most days!
Oh and if anyone has any good information about VBAC's would you please send it my way? I would really appreciate it!!! TIA
