Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade.
_______________________________Hide your face so the world will never find you...

Nathaniel

He was limp for only a few more moments before his eyesight swirled back into his eyes. He saw Grace over him, staring down at him horrified, and he felt her hand on his mask. He jerked, grabbing her wrist suddenly to stop her. "No!" He croaked. "Don't..." His hand shook violently and without his control, and his grip was weak. Common signs of fatigue from hunger.

"Now, turn right... You will see a caravan, with Fayland on it Bobby. It should be close at the end of that row. Go in there..."

His Father's voice directed.

Bobby turned his head as he continued to walk further and further from the 'new comers', away from the rest of the occupied tents and into the deserted, dead portion of the laid out land. Eventually he spotted what he had been looking for and sure enough there it was: the old worn and wooden caravan with the word "Fayland" carved into the side. The paint had long since pealed away and the vehicle seemed to have sunk part way into the mud over the years, its old wheels cracked, splintered and frozen in place. Bobby could tell that it was near impossible to pull such a thing from its rooted spot. As the young acrobat approached, he noticed the old caravan's windows were caked in mud and dirt to the point where it was impossible to see inside.

" ... I feel like I shouldn't be here..."

He felt a chill just by standing around these ancient wagons. Why his 'parents' directed him there.... he wasn't sure if he wanted to know. In fact, Bobby had half a mind to turn right around and run for the warm (er) big top, or his tent. He didn't want anything to do with this place.

Grace took her hand back and looked at Nathaniel's mask with some worry.

"Nathaniel I wasn't... are you okay? When is the last time you've slept, eaten or had some water?"

She sat next to him hoping that he would answer. That he hadn't gone so far without any of those things that he was starting to break down because of it.

Senna followed after Huck.

"You should watch where your going"

She said a little shyly holding a hand out to help him up. A small blush crossed her cheeks as she stared down at Huck sitting in the dirt and mud. It was almost cute and she couldn't help but to smile. Senna shook her head a little and looked the other way. "No, he's, not interested... I'm a freak. Or... he, he just wants to be friends. Change subject, your acting weird."

"um...And no, I've never ridden a motorcycle before. Or... any cycle for that matter."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Bobby, they won't come here. You don't have to worry about Siff's rules here"
His mother's voice chimed through the inside of the caravan now. The door opened a little and it lit up inside the caravan. Candle lights just coming on.
As she took her hand away, he felt his hand clasp onto his mask desperately. It made him feel a bit better, pressing the thick, hot plastic hard against his skin. Nathaniel was quiet for a long while, still shaking and turning away from her as she sat next to him. He tried swallowing, but there was nothing to swallow. He inched away from her, afraid of her now and still holding his mask. "I... I can't... someone will see..." He turned away from her fully now, cowering on the ground. "Please, Miss Grace... don't make me eat..."
"You need to eat Nathaniel... What would I have to do to make you feel safe while you get some food and something to drink?"
Is sincerely worried but doesn't want to invade Nathaniel's space or make him feel more uncomfortable than he already is. Grace sits near Nathaniel waiting for him to respond trying not to upset him or give the impression that she is not interested in the mask or what's directly beneath it.
Bobby, understandably, hesitated from this motion. He took a short step back, trying to see as much of the inside of the caravan as he could from where he stood.
" ... it doesn't look safe. I don't know..."
Despite the voices of his 'mother' and 'father' beckoning him in, the last thing he wanted to do was enter that caravan. All he could do was think of a way to stall for time. The boy shifted uncomfortably, his feet sinking just a little into the hardening mud around him.
"... it looks like it'll break apart if I touch it. Are you sure?"
"It's safe Bobby. Please."
Despite the fact that they weren't showing themselves to Bobby their voices could clearly be heard from the Caravan the candle lights flickering inside. The light barely glow from behind the murk that was caked on the windows. It was otherwise dark inside. The caravan was somewhat large. About half the size of a train cart but plenty big for a good sized acrobat family to fit into. If Bobby would enter they would keep him inside, or at least try. Both out of their integrated protective instincts and their feelings for Bobby but the darkness that Siff had gave them that wanted him to stay trapped from the others.
Nathaniel's head lifted slightly at her words. He thought it over in his head. She was comforting him. He had never been comforted before. He shivered, kneading the dirt between his fingers. He looked down to his hands again, thinking. "... I..." He tried swallowing again. He finally turned to Grace, staring at her head on through his mask. "... the.... bear tent..." He finally was able to rasp it out. "I... I could eat in the bear tent..." He stared at her, shaking still from the weakness. He supposed that the bears were the only creatures that he didn't fear. He could trust them.
Grace smiled out of relief and nodded. She stood up and brushed off her jacket.
"I will meet you there then. I'm going to get you something to eat..."
Bobby rubbed at his arms, taking a couple slow steps toward the opening of the ancient caravan. The longer he looked at the eaten-away wood and the more smells of must and decay that reached his nose, the more unwilling he became to enter. With a forced huff he placed a hand on the door, pushing at it so it would creak back.
Nathaniel
He watched as she stood up and left him, a small sigh escaping his lips. She seemed happy that he was agreeing to eat for her. He looked away, then stood slowly, dragging himself over to the bear tent. He longed to lay down again, snuggle up between the two large bears and doze off again, the comforting snorts of Ambrose blowing into his hair and Theo snoring like a whistle and of Perrine purring on... Nathaniel stopped again. He hated thinking about what was happening to her right now. He didn't even know if she had been taken in by someone else on the carnival, much less if she even ran off on her own. Someone could've come into the bear tent and just swiped her. Nathaniel doubted it, though. The bears would have noticed.
He reached the tent at the two sleeping bears. He approached them, crouching down a bit and stroking Ambrose's wide forehead. He was so soft. He sighed, thinking of Perrine yet again. What was he going to do?
As the door creaked open both of Bobby's parents waited in the dark candle lit interior. They were not willing to show themselves till Bobby completely entered the old decaying caravan.
"Bobby..."
His mother's voice said worriedly.
"Don't stand out in the open. Come in. It's safe in here."
His father's voice added.
Bobby paused and sucked in a quick breath of air before he hopped up the step, standing just outside the door frame. This way he could get a better look at the interior. It was amazing to him that the candles could light in this thick damp air.... it was also clear on the inside just as much as the outside that no one had stepped foot in this caravan for a very long time... until now.
The moment he entered, this boy was ready to rabbit at the first sign of danger. He kept frozen next to the doorway, looking down at the muddy creaking wood on which he stood.
"I don't like this-"
He mumbled, giving an uncomfortable look around him.
((I"m going to post now but I will wait for swampy before I make another one if you guys reply back xp ))
Grace fetched some food from the food tent that she had been prepared. Someone in the carnival cooked this particular meal, although no one could say who but there was always steamed rice, cream and bread ready for anyone who's starving. She grabbed a basket and placed a pot with the cream peppered rice, two bowls, some silverware, a container of water with two cups and slices of bread tucking them neatly in the basket. Grace put a picnic blanket over the food to keep it dry and safe as she headed through the mist outside the carnival. There was a sinking feeling she had as she walked, feeling guilty for not telling Nathaniel that she knew where Perrine had gone. Usually Grace wouldn't feel so guilty summing up her actions as "For the best" or "To not get in trouble" and be done with it but this time felt different. There was a piece of her that had been alone for so long but now was actually becoming attached to Nathaniel. She couldn't figure out why she liked him so much... he did work harder and give her less trouble than anyone she's ever come into contact with but as she thought about it... he also didn't need to know who she was. In a way, she wore a mask too and respected Nathaniel privacy as much as he respected hers even though her mask was more covering her past than her actual features. If Nathaniel knew her past, what kind of person she was then... She shuttered. Grace looked up from her shutter as she reached the bears tent trying not to think about losing or betraying Nathaniel. Carrying the basket she sat to the side of the tent away from the hungry bears.
"Here's some food. I got an extra bowl in case Perrine happens by. I hope that you know what your doing... the bears might eat your food before you do if you're not careful."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bobby's father walked out into the light of the candles just out of view of the light sky shining through.

"This is our ancestors caravan Bobby. It's safe, and needs some work... not to go anywhere, but for a nice place to stay with us."

He walked over and brushed off a trunk and opened it up. The wood creaked as it opened and the lid then laid back. While Bobby's father was working on digging in the trunk his wife walked over towards Bobby hugging him.

"I'm glad you made it here... this is your great great great grandfather's caravan. He built it by hand to join this carnival almost 200 years ago. Everything in here is free for you to use."

His mother was trying to comfort him and hoped that he would further come inside. The caravan was definitely big enough for the three of them. On both ends there were bunk beds, in the middle a card playing table with two chairs which could fold into a bed by laying the cushions over the table when it's folded down. The room was old but and covered in dust and water damage but still held together it's shape pretty well. While most of the other caravans were starting to bow, break and slant all the while sinking into the mud. If anything this graveyard was a testament to not leaving. Caravans purposes for traveling, destroyed the moment the entered or became a part of the place. pull here and then parked for all time destined to fall apart. Bobby's mother stepped aside and delicately laid her hand on his shoulder.

"Don't be afraid Bobby. This place is in need of some repair but it will keep us dry from the rain and it will get warmer."

Huck smiled and grabbed her hand, he himself blushing slightly as he got up to his feet. "More'n likely . . . thanks fer helpin' me up though." he drawled as he got up. Strangely enough, he didn't let go of her hand. I hope she didn't lose interest in me just 'cause I tripped! Forget it, she probably just wants to be friends he thought . . . or did she?

He nodded when she mentioned she never rode a motorcycle before. "Should be pretty easy. Whole lotta fun once ya get the hang of it though." he offered. He saw the bike at last, almost right where he had left it. For now.
