Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. Masquerade.
_______________________________Hide your face so the world will never find you...

Nathaniel

Nathaniel's head snapped towards Grace, a surge of relief spiking through his body. At least she was here. But her voice indicated that something, something important, was awry. Nathaniel hesitated entering the tent further, finally deciding to follow Grace for fear of the chilling feeling he got from the center of the tent. He turned quickly, not taking the chance to even look at Siff, much less what he had in his arms. Nathaniel trotted out of the tent, forgetting his mission until outside. "Oh," he coarsely whispered, turning to Grace gently. "Actually, Miss Grace, I was looking for someone." He lifted his head towards her. "Have you seen Perrine? She ran off while I was sleeping."

Grace had almost stopped to look back when Nathaniel asked her about Perrine but stopped herself from doing so. She looked away and then kept walking with Nathaniel leading him away from the big top.

"Perrine should be able to take care of herself. The only danger in this place is in tent behind us and I don't see her going in there anytime soon."

For some reason, despite all the lies that she has told before this one hurt her a little bit more than usual. She wasn't just lying to any person here, but a young caring man. She wanted to help but if they went back into the tent where Siff was, where she knew the kitten is, then there would be trouble between Siff and Nathaniel. Grace decided it was best that she keep Nathaniel away, at least for now and she could retrieve the kitten for him later.

Siff looked up at the two who were now alone with him in the tent and gestured for them to come closer.

"Inside this ring please. I like to see who it is I'm talking to."

He placed his hand back down on the kitten after gesturing for them to come nearer. With the young knife thrower seeming a little on edge he wanted to play a bit more careful for the sake of not losing his opportunity to pretty much scold the two of them for digging their noses where they didn't belong. If anything happened he would disappear in a flash and talk to the more logical of the two. Although even she seemed to not believe or want to obey the laws of this world. He placed the kitten in his coat, causing it to seemingly disappear without a single noise before Senna or Huck saw that he had it in the first place. For now he would hide that he had captured Perrine and decided to give it back to Nathaniel sometime later if he ever earned a reward for hard work.

Perrine laid very nervously in the mans arms trying desperately to meow to obtain attention but fear stopped her voice from leaving her throat. It also stopped her from moving as well. Being a cat, she sensed more than she ever had as a person. In this way she could also sense, the mood. Almost as though she could tell what a person was thinking without reading their thoughts. Reading their feelings and those of Mr.Siff were not the best to sense. She was given more fear of the man, and a new more depressing ground level view of the carnival in it's full entirety beyond what any person could see. When she realized that she started to move she looked up at the man, his glaring green eyes were the last things she saw before everything went dark.

Nathaniel

Nathaniel stared at Grace for a while. He was unsure what to do with her reaction. No one had ever... comforted him before. It felt good. So good, in fact, that he ignored the bad taste in his mouth that he got from her words. Nathaniel nodded softly and trailed Grace, eager to get away from the big tent. As the two wandered in the dark, an unfamiliar figure formed by one of the performer tents. Nathaniel kept his step with Grace, hands casually placed in his pockets, but kept his gaze on the upcoming boy and, as they got closer, maneuvered himself around Grace so she would be between him and the boy.

gaia_nitemareleft Winter is coming I can't feel the cold, how the path of life unfolds, The twists and turns it makes, and the life it takes...

"Grace!"

Seth had just noticed who was in his path. He was looking for Bobby and maybe she might know where he was. Other than that he wasn't too much of a friend to her. He looked around and then leaned over a little to look around Grace's shoulder to see who was standing behind her. It was the masked kid that just joined.

"You need to leave right now kid. You might still have a chance to go."

He said to the Nathaniel.

"I'd advise actually LOOKIN'. That helps a lot more." Huck said, going into the ring, but leaning on one of the poles. Looking for what looked like an opportunity . . . something that would scare the DAYLIGHTS out of hi- toss a knife through his hat? Maybe . . . he hadn't done that in a while. Last time was in Vaughan, Mississippi as a drunk dare. Missed his scalp by a half-inch . . . of course, that was then . . . this was now.

Give 'im a bit. Maybe it's not so bad. He raises his voice to Senna and I might "accidentally" stick one in his hand. he thought. Apparently this goon was someone who had the circus scared into obedience . . .

. . . all except HIM.

Senna walked forward towards Siff stopping withing 10 feet of him. A street width apart from the man who at this current moment in time seemed very intimidating to Senna.

"What did we do?"

She asked tilting her head a little glancing towards Huck and then back towards Siff. Senna felt like her or Huck were seriously in trouble and hoped that it was neither of them. They had only walked around the carnival, a place they couldn't escape anyway.

Siff looked up to her and then to Huck. He sat perfectly still un-moving to the two who came closer. A purposeful "I won't stand for this" kind of gesture to help along his point.

"You two were snooping in sealed tents. Now, you do know what happens to the curious cat don't you? Anyway, you're both lucky nothing was dangerous in that tent and I highly advise you don't go searching around again."

Senna's brow furled down what he had said, unable to comprehend what was so wrong with searching the place. A slight glare of disbelief at what he was saying crossed her. As if giving him such a look would make him further explain what was wrong, despite the feeling that she shouldn't be disobeying him was there. She felt she probably wouldn't judge Siff at this current time if she didn't have Huck there to support here. If she were alone she wouldn't ask questions for fear of his reaction even though he had done nothing yet to give reason for her to fear him.

"Is there something wrong Scarlet Angel?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grace looked back to Nathaniel and then to Seth.
"Seth, you need to stop this. Stop asking people to leave before you get into real trouble."
She glared at him a bit. Seth, of all the people she's tried to help has never once taken her advice. As if every bit of work she does is for not in saving his life. In her eyes he might as well have committed suicide. She wondered why Siff had not done Seth in like so many others who have done far less to anger the man.
"Go back to your tent Seth."
"It ain't yer damned business where I go ya pompous a*****e. Now YOU'RE lucky I'm in a good mood. However, with what I been hearin', I'm still wond'rin' if I should stick ya or not." he said, casually playing with one of his knives before using it for a toothpick.
Ain't worth the time to chuck one at him. I still gotta go get it back . . . and I might get it dirty with his bullshit. he thought. For now, he'd just play it casual and out of the way.
"Pompous. I see."
Siff stood up and brushed off the sides of his jacket. He kept a firm stance and looked to Senna and then to Huck.
"I would be careful Huck. Not every bit of this Carnival is protected by me. There are dangerous things here and I wouldn't want Scarlet Angel to end up alone due to your decisions."
Siff acted a sincere caring man at this point. He wasn't planning on fooling them, still keeping his superiority and air about him. He hoped mostly that Senna would listen and still believe him to be the good man who hired her when she had first joined.
"I'm a harsh man, but It's for good intentions. I would be a horrible Ringmaster if I didn't place rules to protect my workers from the curse that this place holds."
Senna remained standing next to Huck not saying a word. The tension in the air was mostly between Huck and Will, and she didn't want to add to it.
"Protected? hehehe PROTECTED?!" Huck said, laughing Siff down. Then he heard the OTHER part. He had a hand on his knife, ready to skin that ringmaster alive where he stood.
"You best be careful HOW you use that power, or else . . ." Huck snarled. Sure, he had been in danger before, but right now, Siff and Huck were CLEARLY not cut out to be close friends. Pulling his Bowie knife out, he smirked, watching it line up with Siff's body.
"My grampa gave me this knife back home in Kentucky. Been in my fam'ly fer years . . . would hate t' lose it guttin' you." he said, before spinning the Bowie knife and sheathing it. "In other words, lay a hand on Senna an' yer gonna meet yer maker. Got it?" he growled. There was PLENTY of fight left in him.
Siff took one hand back up to his face holding it to his chin and lip in contemplation. He raised a brow and looked to Senna.
"You think I /love/ Senna?"
He looked back to Huck lowering his hand and placing it behind his back with his other hand. Holding his arms behind his back standing up.
"I assure you Huck that I won't be touching her. She is a worker, not in my interests to break professionalism... On another subject, There's nothing I can do about the curse, except help those who wander into my carnival. Hold shows to keep the place from falling apart completely. If you would suggest I use my powers another way I would like to hear it. Really I would. And now would be a good time since you seem to know so much about this place already."
Senna perked up a little and then felt really uncomfortable at how Siff had answered Huck back. She thought for a moment about what he had last said and raised her hand to answer him.
"Siff... You have tried to help workers escape? Bobby, and Grace... or the others?"
"I have tried."
Siff coldly stated still gazing at Huck for his answer in particular rather than Senna's questions.
"That ain't what I meant, boy." Huck growled before hocking a wad and spitting to the side away from Senna and Siff.
"Ever since I wound up here, it's been 'curse this', 'supernatural that' when all I've seen is you usin' superstitions t' bully these poor people int' doin' yer bidding . . . and that's gonna end today." he growled. Whatever he was selling to Senna, Huck wasn't buying.
"If you act'ally helped people as you claimed, how come they all're still here then? Working for YOU?" he asked, taking a step forward.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 14, 2012 11:40 am
"I don't see anyone else here who can keep the curse under control better than myself. There is no Winning, there is only continuing to run this Carnival the way it has been and always will be."
"What about keeping new people from coming? You could keep the gates closed..."
Senna stated mildly trying not to get on Siff's bad side. Considering that with what Huck had been saying and he still didn't seem too angry she could possibly put in her thoughts.
"The doors Open and close at their own will. I cannot stop new members but to only make them feel welcome. Let them know the rules so they do not get hurt."
Siff did not once look at Senna since they he gave his attention to Huck earlier. Almost to slightly signify that he was less interested in talking with her.
Huck silently stared down the spirit. Silently proving to him that win, lose or draw, he was NOT going to back down to some chump who claimed he "controlled" this carnival. He was the kinda guy to start throwing punches for that.
"She's talkin' to YOU, punk." he snarled, nearly spitting out that last word. His hand looming over a hip-sheath with the knife from earlier. It wasn't too balanced in comparison to his throwing knives, but it'd still get where it was going if he was throwing it.
Nathaniel
Nathaniel stared at the boy for a moment, shocked that he was being spoken to directly. He wasn't surprised about what was being said to him, however. He had been aware of the trouble he stepped into the first time he met Siff's gaze. Perhaps if he had seen it sooner he wouldn't be so reluctant to leave. But he still needed to stay; if not for himself, than for the animal's sake he had to stay.
At Grace's reaction to Seth, Nathaniel felt himself straighten. So this boy went around preaching to everyone that they needed to leave? Shivering in discontent, Nathaniel stared at the boy once again, confident that the expression he was making wouldn't be attacked by anyone around him. The boy, Seth, was quite irritable, wasn't he? Nathaniel would be sure to take anything he said with a grain of salt and with the knowledge that he was a reckless child. As Nathaniel thought through all of this, he stared at the boy without a single movement.
"I want to talk man to man. Senna, our conversation will have to wait for a different time. And don't think you can harm me with your blades. The moment you do I can assure you that you'll regret it."
Siff stopped himself from giving a glare to the man. He was getting quite irritated by Huck's reluctance to be obedient.
Senna went infront of Huck and held her wings down between Siff and him.
"Siff, Huck we don't need to argue. There is a way to leave this place. I know it, and if Huck and I can find the source of this curse, or whatever is doing this we can save everyone including you Will."
