Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Sandy glanced towards the man from his position in the kitchen. He poured the boiling water into a French press, letting it sit as he grabbed two mugs and placed them on the counter. "Cream or sugar?" he asked, scooping sugar from a small bowl into his own mug after taking creamer out of the fridge. His home that Cliff was pacing around was just messy enough to belong to an artist. There was a half-finished clay vase on a spintable near the back wall, the dining room table covered with sketches of a new sculpture Sandy had recently begun working on. Pictures of his works and a couple of paintings covered several of the walls, but the piece de resistance was the Cucchi on the wall. It was delicately illuminated by a small lamp, but clearly of a far higher caliber than several of the paintings around it. It was more than a great work of art, it was special. Once their coffee was made, Sandy brought the two mugs out and held one out to Cliff, then sat on his couch and crossed his legs. "Now then, you were about to explain why I should stop seeing Alcott," he reminded the celebrity, sipping his coffee nonchalantly. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

  Cliff took a moment to find a suitable place to sit down, making sure it kept a clean distance from him and Sandy. He looked at his coffee before giving the artist a grave look. " Because he's a selfish, ruthless man," he replied seriously. " All he cares about is himself. Once he's done having whatever fun he wants with you, he'll toss you aside just like he did with my mother." He closed his eyes, but the anger was still evident on his handsome face. " All she did was love him and give him everything, and he turned around and left without a hint of guilt."

Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ He sipped the coffee, uncrossing and recrossing his legs. "So you're doing this out of kindness?" asked Sandy after a while. "I'm sure you know the story better than I, Mr. Northwind, but I was certain the break up was rather amicable. It was made clear to me that the age difference and the lack of chemistry became too much. I might be wrong, though, if he's as ruthless and selfish as you say." ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

  " You're completely absorbing everything my dad says without reason," Cliff dismissed. " My mother loved him more than anything. Everyday she did anything and everything she could just to make him look at her. The thing is that he stopped caring and stopped trying. He didn't make any attempt to fix things, he just gave up at first signs of boredom. He'll do the same to you."

Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Sandy set down his coffee cup, lacing his fingers on his knee. "Who's to say I won't get bored of him first?" he pointed out. "I'm sure you've done a bit of a history on me, how else would you know where I'm staying? It's very well known that I'm a bit promiscuous and hard to please. Isn't it entirely possible that I'll find your father unable to fully satisfy me and leave him for someone else?" ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

  " If that were the case then I wouldn't have come here," Cliff responded casually, fixing the artist with a hawk-like gaze that was undoubtedly inherited by his father. " You can act as mysterious as you want, but you and I both know this isn't some simple fling." He opened his mouth to say more, but something made him stop. He looked up suddenly, gaze intently on the front door. " Sh-t," he mumbled as a presence got closer and closer at a rapid pace. The door swung open with ferocious might, and standing in the doorway was a woman that looked like she could have been Cliff's age. She even shared the same features, black hair and sea green eyes, and a scowl on her face that came from a familiar source. " Aha! I knew you'd be here!" she yelled as she pointed to the actor. " How did you find me, Leela?" Cliff snapped. " How else? You're too obvious!" the woman, Leela, snarled back.

Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ As cool as he was pretending to be, Sandy still jumped and yelped when the door burst open. He placed a hand over his chest, staring between the two as his heart rate returned to normal. "Another Northwind?" he observed, wondering how many more were going to come into his house. "Am I going to be warned/scolded by the whole family?" he asked, exasperated. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Cliff Northwind "No. I'm sorry about the sudden intrusion," Leela told the artist before looking back at her brother. "Cliff always tries his best to make our father out to be a monster-" "Because he is!" Cliff insisted. "-just so he can stay lonely. He's not a monster, Cliff!" "Yes he is!" the actor yelled, showing an unattractive stubborn side. "He's not! You're such a Mama's Boy that you never saw how depressed Dad was during their time together! Couldn't you see that they were both miserable?" Leela said. "No, I couldn't. I saw how miserable Dad was, but not Mom. She loved him! If she was miserable it was because he didn't love her back!" "Do you really think having them stay together in a loveless marriage would have been the best option?" the sister pointed out. "Mom's already with someone else! She's happy now! Why can't you let Dad do the same?" "Because he doesn't deserve it! All he's going to do is have more kids and abandon them too!" Cliff growled. "He takes care of us! He visits when he can! If anything, you're the one that abandoned him!" Leela yelled, striding over and poking her brother's chest with her index finger. The brother hesitated at the comment then clenched his jaw and slapped the hand away from him. "Get your hand away from me!" As the two's arguments got louder and threatening, the door upstairs opened. "That's enough!" Alcott yelled as he stormed down the stairs. He gave Sandy an apologetic look before looking sternly at his kids, who both stared at him as if caught with their hands in the cookie jar. "Aha! I knew you were here!" Cliff snarled. "What were you doing, talking about how much of a poor life you've had?" "He was spending time with his boyfriend, you idiot!" Leela hissed at her brother. Leela Ortiz

Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ He didn't have a headache before all this started, but he definitely did now. Rubbing his temple, he sat back on the couch and crossed his legs. "Guys, this really isn't necessary." He tried to insist, to no avail. Great. This was just going to keep getting worse, wasn't it? He stood up, preparing to intervene, when Alcott boomed from up the stairs. He looked up, smiling softly in relief, then leaned on the wall and crossed his arms. "Just to add in, I can't have kids. I am, in fact, a man." He gestured to himself, as if it weren't obvious. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Cliff Northwind Cliff turned to look at the artist, giving him a condescending look. "Adoption," was all he said before turning back to his family. "What I do with my life is up to me," Alcott told his son. "You can't storm around like a five-year-old anymore. You need to grow up." At that, Cliff bristled and jumped up from his seat. "No, what you do with your life effects all of us! You're not looking for love, you're just in the middle of a mid-life crisis! How could someone with your kind of "job" ever hope to find love!?" He narrowed his eyes as a dark aura began to outline his body. There was a hint of red in his irises. "Do you have any idea how many nights I spend wondering if I'm really Mom's son because of the sh1t you do?" "Cliff!" Leela snapped, getting between him and their father. "Dad never had a choice! I looked into it and Uncle Jet's been forcing him to do that!" "Guess you didn't look too hard, then, because Jet didn't do sh1t while Dad was married!" the actor yelled, making his sister stand, stunned. "He didn't force him to do anything. All of that? That was because Dad wanted to!" He looked at Sandy. "How many people did he sleep with while he was with you? Or is he still doing that?" "Cliff!" Alcott boomed as he took a step forward. "No! I'm not listening to you!" the younger Northwind snarled. "I have no reason to trust you after all that sh1t!" Leela Ortiz

Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Aaaand now the headache's a migraine. Sandy clenched his fists, sand shifting outside the cabin. It crept over the windows and around the building, covering everything. The only light was from the upstairs hall light. With his eyes shut and head pounding, Sandy threw his hands out, the sand exploding out with a loud boom. "That is enough!!" he yelled until the room was silent. Taking a calming breath, he opened his eyes and cracked his neck, then turned to Cliff. "Let's start with you. "First of all, questioning your paternity doesn't work like that. Even if your dad was whoring around, it wouldn't change whether or not you're related. More than that, if your dad is really as big a jerk as you say he is and got a client knocked up, do you really think an a** like that would take in the kid and spend years lying about who their mother is? More than that, you look just like your sister. I doubt he adopted two kids from the same client who doesn't like condoms. Second, that man is your father. Even if you don't like him, he gave you life. It wouldn't hurt to give him some level of respect, and bringing up a job like that when you don't know if I know for the express reason of hurting him is just a d!ck move. You're a grown-up. You need to act like it." He turned to Alcott next. "Look, I understand why you're upset, but divorce is a hard thing, even on adults. Cliff is the oldest. In most situations, the eldest child takes the separation the hardest. You said most of the kids stayed with your wife when you divorced, naturally they'll be on her side. That doesn't excuse his behavior, but it wouldn't hurt to let him know you get it. Out of all people, I know you do." Sandy stepped back, shaking his head. "Look, I shouldn't even be involved. This isn't my family. This has nothing to do with me, other than that I'm with Alcott now. But I love him, and even if he left me tomorrow, I would still want him to be happy. He's your father. His happiness is important too." Realizing he might've overstepped some bounds, Sandy moved towards the stairs. "I'm gonna go upstairs while you three talk. Please don't break any of my sculptures. They are all originals and I don't like making copies." ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦

Cliff Northwind The trio simultaneously winced at the somewhat explosion, looking around to see what had happened, only to be yelled at by Sandy. Cliff blinked as he received the worst of the scolding, silently watching the artist leave then looked at his family. His expression turned from anger to soft.
~~~
After about half an hour the sound of the door closing rang through the house, followed by silence. The stairs creaked with weight put on them, and shortly after a knock came at Sandy's door. "They left," Alcott announced from outside the room. "Can I come in?" Leela Ortiz
Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ The door creaked open, Sandy peering out at the hybrid. "Only if you promise there aren't any other Northwind children waiting out there to yell at me," he joked, then opened the door wider and moved towards the bed. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
 If you're not here to learn then you're not worth my time.
"They're the only ones, I promise," Alcott assured. The rest of his kids watched Cliff and Leela bicker with amusement. After this, however, they just might reach out to the artist out of curiosity. The teacher sighed as he walked in, wiping his hands down his face as he sat down beside Sandy on the bed. "Sorry. They're not usually this opinionated. Or maybe I'm just getting too old," he muttered with a small chuckle. He looked at the artist. "You earned their approval, though. They both said they liked you, even Cliff. He doesn't say that very easily."
Get out before I make you get out.
Sandy Saunders ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ "That's just because they found out I have cool sand powers," he teased, gently nudging shoulders with Alcott. "Anyway, it's fine. It's not the first time this has happened. I really get around, if you recall." Sandy looked down at his hands on his lap, his smile fading. "But I've never really been in a relationship like this." ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦
