Ohhh I see. All this death talk is so grim.

People die everyday, what's one less? Really if I couldn't donate a penny to help African kids buy tumbleweeds for dinner why am I going to care when someone I don't even know from a forum board I visit dies?

It felt grim to me at the time because I finished reading a couple chapters of Death Note and some kid in the GCD made a thread talking about how many Gaian users died or whatever.

Well it felt grim to me just because most discussions on death lack the amusing and cheerful tone of other conversations. Plus I wasn't really in the most chipper of moods. Not that I minded the conversation at all, I was just in need of something less serious.

Hmm, death can still be a sad thing.

even if you only had the glimpse of someone they affected you even a bit. We pixels can still shed a little light on things, eh?

Howdy Howdy from forever ago, thought i'd stop by and... i don't know prove i'm still alive and well to the joy or dismay of everyone else biggrin DD

I cried when I heard about Lord Shishio's departure and I don't know why really. I'd only really talked to him a couple of times... probably because I felt a loss of innocence with his passing.

He was a good kid, and he touched people's lives.

Not many people do that...

I think that alone is admirable enough to earn respect...

Stranger or not, Shishio had character.

I dunno... I'm the type that cares about random people... not so egoist, I guess...

Stranger or not, Shishio had character.

He had lots of characters, he was a writer!

But yeah, I cried a bit too. I really wish I could have gotten to know him better, from some of what I heard afterwards, he'd have been right up my alley. blaugh

Weighing in belatedly, because, unusually, I had to think about it:
Behind every set of pixels there is a real, breathing, living person with a heart. Although I may practice reasonable caution- anyone can indeed be anything on the internet- in terms of emotive attachment, I feel pretty much the same about my friends here or on Gaia generally as I do about my friends anywhere. People being physically present just isn't that important to me unless there's sex involved. And people on Gaia are still real people. They deserve and I try to give them my respect and love and even grief in such proportion as they've earned it.

As to the question of Lord Shishio specifically; I never met him, which I regret. It would be presumptuous of me to comment on his character or to pretend I feel as deeply as those who knew him. However, I have seen the way one of my best IRL and Gaia friends, who did know him well, speaks about him, and that gives me faith all the nice things I hear are true; and also accounts for my regret.

Val's pretty much nailed it. Even if I have no emotional attachment to "Random online person I see frequently and rather like," there'd still be a sense of loss if that person bought the farm.

Of course with me, the internet is my surrogate social life, IRL I have ... coworkers and customers. neutral

(also? Ha ha, Val included my name, I'm SO one of the cool kids! *preen*)
I have 3 levels of people

Known, Dude's and Friends.

Most co-workers and class-mates would be people I know. Dude's would be people I could hang out with, but don't, and I generally see them once in a while. Friends would be those I can call and tell them to do stuff. Like make me waffles.

If someone Known dissapears, I would be like "Damn, that's bad" but If a dude dies, then I would be sad, and all of you are my friends, so I would be sad if something happened to you.

BAKONLAIYJN4REEL~
Wtf had this sasser virus symantec couldn't debug. Then some troubles irl about taking a cab at 3 o clock in the morning because my friends didn't feel like waiting for the first bus/metro at like 5 am.
I was all wtf no and walked home.
Then I got an angry phonecall from friend's mom : I should pay my share for the cab.
Urr.

Whatever it sucked I'm not going out again anytime soon again.
My heels were bleeding because I wore my new shoes, drinks were 3.50 (non-alcoholic) and cocktails wee 5.50 (!!) and I was surrounded by friend's kakker friends who wear pink lacoste shirts and hilflikker pants.
: talk2handdd~ :

mrgreen

When I was offline I played Age Of Empires III and cleaned my room.
It's been a very unproductive while.
Managed to read a bit though.

On a side note, I dreamt I went to visit Brian. (Post mortem, I dreamt I was going to visit an urn.) And when I got there I was told/remembered that his brother had died too. (Which he hasn't.) I spent the rest of the dream trying to find his brother's urn. Weird dream.

There are no such thing as Gaia breaks in Val's Omni Hangout.

That's definately an odd dream.
Are people just stashing these urns in random places or something?
You'd think the parents would have them.

Brian's was on the entertainment center where he's always been, his brother's was somewhere else. And since it was a dream, the house kept changing. xd
