Haha, yeah. I like the idea of living in europe because (and no offense to anyone reading this) I don't think that the american empire can survive for too much longer, plus people here are too conservative in most places.

I like being American. As a whole, we can be stupid and gross and mean and intolerant... but we -can- be. I know it's so overblown, but I like being able to be whatever I want, having that freedom. (Although I wish what people wanted to be was a little nicer and cleaner, of course...)
Regardless, I'm mostly Irish by blood, American by choice. heart And by the way, I'm a fairly conservative young woman- unfortunately, that means I get branded as a lot of mean things. crying its too bad.

Being conservative isn't bad, people just tend to lump all of them into the class of "intolerant, polluting, etc" Even though I consider myself to be liberal a lot of my views are more in the middle. And I'm mostly Irish too, and English. Hurray for the Irish!

You know what sucks? Cleaning. Our dishwasher broke and I just got done scrubbing out the sink and washing off our dish drainer thing. All that work just so I can wash the dishes. Housewives don't get enough freakin credit, especially historically speaking, like back when there weren't modern machines or medicines. A couple centuries ago or less a housewife had to make medicines, pickle veggies and make jams for winter storage, actually make their own butter and stuff, cook everything from scratch, take care of kids, wash laundry, wash dishes.... geez, I can't even imagine how much work that was. How in the heck did they do it? It's freaking amazing. I think the next time someone asks me who my hero is I'll say it's an 18th century (middle class) housewife or something.

haha...nemone; i don't think you have much of a right to say that only housewife's have to do that crap. in modern america, or atleast in my family, they pass all the chores to the child...and then the youngest one whines her little a** off until they get annoyed and the one that doesn't b***h and moan gets to do EVERYTHING....
.....yeah... i know how you feel though, which is why i'm glad i don't live wiht my mother anymore.
back then, it was required, before women's liberation. which, just like affermitive action, is a load of crap. because if a woman is applying for the same job i do, she will get it no matter what, because that's the law...
gotta love this ******** country.

Its not only required, it's expected. When I was in HS, we had to plan our "future careers" and base our classes around them, ya know?
I took psych, home-ec, shop, languages, art, ect...
and when my senior year rolled around and I had to pick my "major" in life, I chose "Motherhood and Wife". I was, quite literally, mocked off the stage, and my counselor forced me to chose another career to graduate, claiming that "Being a mother and a wife isn't a job." BS, I say. My mom kept my family together, kept my house clean and my family fed, and on top of that found time to be the coolest mom ever. I saw how much work it was, and anyone who says it isn't can live my life for one month. I dare them to live my life for ONE MONTH. See how well you handle running an entire household.
-_- I'm -still- going to attend classes based on becoming a better wife and mother. (Nursing, child psych, cooking, another home-ec class, child education, ect). I am proud to be a housewife, and any feminist (read raging feminazi) who has any objection to my choice can meet the snappy end of my dishtowel.
Dont' get me wrong, i'm all for equal rights- I like being able to vote and hold land. But I do -not- believe men and women are the same. I believe we're equal- I -can- do anything a man can do... but why should I? Let the men do the breadwinning. I'll stay home and keep my home a sanctuary for my kids and my husband. I can work. Crap, I -do- work, its how we make ends meet. But I don't -have- to. My job is to make sure that when my family comes home, they have food, shelter, and love right here in their home. ^_^ heart

I guess I was lucky, I decided to join the marines and people thought I was weird. I remember thinking back in high school how weird it was that all the mormon girls wanted to go to college in Utah to meet husbands. Now that I've spent 5 years being put down by men in a "man's" career I've sort of flown the other way. I used to put my badge to go to work in the NSA building on a pink carebear lanyard because it was the only way I could express the feeling of, "I'm a [bleep]ing woman so [bleep]ing deal with it." People used to think it was funny to see a marine walking around wearing carebears but they couldn't say anything because there are no regs on lanyards and guys used to wear superman and nintendo ones. I'm glad I met my husband, he gave me confidence and the last couple years in the military I didn't have to suffer any harassment. I'm still not sure if that was because I sort of adopted a "I don't have to take this s**t anymore" attitude, or because my husband is well known for having a violent temper and for being extremely protective of me... Of course, I didn't hang out with any guys outside of work after I got married and that could have helped too.

I'm a teacher...well...as of tomorrow I will be (!!!!! eek !!!!!) and I've gotten a lot of flack, especially from my ex from it. "You can do so much better than teaching," or "you've got a good head on your shoulders, why waste it?" or "those who can, do, those who can't, teach," are slogans I've heard WAY too many times. I love the light in a child's eyes when they get something. I love literature, and want others to love it too. I enjoy passing on knowledge, because WILLFUL ignorance is my BIGGEST pet peve.
I think that's WONDERFUL that you're a housewife!
And I think that's SO cool that you had the "Balls" to be a marine!
When people are willing to do what they have to, and deal with what they have to for a career they chose, that's just the best...

Sorry, I wasn't refreshing between checking threads, I was just moving to the next one. redface
I'm really excited about teaching. And I think teachers are GROSSLY underpaid, and not just becasue I want to be a teacher. Football players should get teacher salaries, and the reverse true! Preparing the world of tomorrow is a hell of a lot more important than bashing some guy over a piece of blown up plastic pig skin.

But I believe that when Jesus said that we will have the power to raise the dead, he didn't mean artificial ressitation. (I spelled that wrong, I think.) I think that we have other abilities that our technological surge has taken the place of, and working with herbs is one of them, among many.
there's a lot of stuff that's easier now via modern things- I, for one, love my wash machine. But I think that the ability to pop a pill and fix things has made us... body-stupid, in a way. If you hurt, then SOMETHING IS WRONG. I'm a fan of chiropractic as well (another "alternative" medicine practice.) My doc explained it to us this way: If your nerves and your spinal chord control everything in your body, and you're squishing those nerves, are they working right? No! So, take the pressure off, and things work right again.
I think that we should learn to listen to our bodies. If you have a headache, don't pop that pill! What's giving you that headache- is your neck out of adjustment, is your music too loud, did you drink too much last night? (I personally believe that if you have a hangover, you should suffer through it. After all, it was worth it last night, wasn't it? whee )
