Ashori's frown darkened, but just slightly and only for an instant. Then it'd faded and she sighed instead. "If I was drunk, you'd be able to smell the alcohol on my breath, correct?" she murmured quietly, watching the floor the entire time. Then she fell silent, not saying anything more about it. She didn't want him to think she was drunk, but she was relieved he hadn't laughed at her, so she'd let it slide. Besides, there wasn't much she could do to change his mind if he kept insisting upon it. And she wasn't exactly walking straight, which didn't help her case...

She finally looked up as they came to her door, and she watched in slight surprise as he pushed it open and stepped inside. She followed him in, and immediately flinched as a voice echoed through her head.
Ashori! What are you doing? Where have you been?! A tiny dog with tan fur and three purple eyes stood on the foot of her bed, staring at the pair who'd just come in. "It's nothing. I-I just-" Ashori began, but was cut off. Who is that? Why do you...? The telepathically shared thought trailed off as Shiro caught the scent of blood, and his three tiny eyes widened in alarm. A second later, miniscule needle-like teeth were bared towards Lake. What are you doing, boy? Shiro's voice was suprisingly deep and booming, considering his size, and it only seemed louder since he projected the words directly to those he was speaking to.

"...What the hell is that?"

Lake appeared surprisingly unintimidated by the powerful voice rattling silently through his skull...he stared down at the creature, one eyebrow arched high into his mess of dark hair, and then let out a heavy sigh.

"Great...like I need another voice in my head..." he muttered, eyeing the...dog...moodily. "Sorry, pops, I meant to have her home by six," he added sarcastically, baring his teeth back at the creature in a rather animalistic fashion. "And I don't particularly like having chihuahuas calling me 'boy'-,"

FLASH.

'Go away!'

'Hurry it up...he wants him there now.'

'Please, stop it...!'

'Get a move on, boy!'

'But I-,'

FLASH.

"..." Lake frowned a little, then shook his head again, blinking and looking somewhat disorientated.

'Interesting creature. Strong telepathic abilties-,'

"And you shut up too!" Lake snarled, jerking his head briefly over his right shoulder. Then, not seeming to realize that he had just spoken aloud to what appeared to be thin air, he glanced moodily at Ashori again. "Does everyone at this hell hole have a talking dog?" he grumbled.

Ashori watched anxiously from the side, hands half raised as if she were going to try to stop them, but just didn't know what exactly to do. So she looked on helplessly and silent. Shiro himself seemed to bristle at the comment. Chihuahua?! he roared, then stopped suddenly as he heard a strange series of voices. He was linked to Lake's head, after all. It ended suddenly and he blinked a few times and looked to the floor, suddenly silent.

Ashori, seeing them both suddenly looking almost out of it, moved a little closer to see what was wrong. However, Lake suddenly looked behind himself and snarled, and she flinched again, unable to help herself. She looked confused and alarmed both, and almost jumped again simply from Lake looking at her. But she managed to stand still, except for the occassional wobble, and slowly shook her head. "I-I haven't seen any others..." she said quietly.

"Yeah...great..." Lake murmured distractedly. He frowned into thin air for a moment or so.

A memory...? That's...impossible...

"Anyway," he growled, turning to glare at Ashori again. "In the interest of not getting arrested and charged with rape or something on my first day, I'm going to go find my dorm. Now..." he smirked at her almost cheekily. "Remember to stay away from the booze, okay kiddo?"

Then, his expression darkened again and he slipped his hands back into his pockets before turning to leave. Nonetheless, he paused. Looked over his shoulder. Normally, he would have kept going. Normally, he wouldn't so much as given her a backwards glance, or have let her cross his mind ever again.

He heaved a sigh, and, almost reluctantly, turned to look over his shoulder at the young girl behind him.

"...So what's your power?" he murmured quietly, gazing at her reproachfully from behind two guarded, crimson eyes.

Obviously he wasn't great, but Ashori wasn't going to start up a pointless argument about it. So she watched him silently, looking uncertain, until he'd turned to face her again. She shied away under his gaze, then blinked a couple times at what he said, a small blush tinting her cheeks again. To be honest, she hadn't thought of that. But he was kidding. She could tell from the smirk. Right? At his next words the blush increased quite a bit. "I-I am not drunk!" she protested, her voice rising almost to a regular volume now.

Then she abruptly fell silent, seeing his darkened expression. He started to go and she began to move to her bed, intending to flop face first and refuse to move for a few days. However, he stopped and he looked back. In turn, she froze and faced him again. "M-mine?" she stammered, surprised he'd lingered just to ask that. "Um, i-it's... healing and dark energy..." She paused, then tentatively added, "An-and yours?"

"...Oh."

He lowered his eyes then and turned away...despite himself, there seemed to be a hint of disappointment on his face. He nodded a little, distracted, and his hand brushed the door handle.

"...I...don't really know...what my powers are," he murmured quietly, staring determinedly at the silver knob.

I'm just your average monster.

"...I can heal a little faster than most people. And..." he paused, and appeared to be contemplating something before he shook his head. "That's it," he finalized. "My body has a high resistance...I move fast and I can jump pretty high. I can't...heal anybody else's injuries. Just my own. And I don't even know how I do it."

Ashori watched him curiously, one hand resting on the bed for support. Had she said the wrong thing? He looked almost like he'd been expecting a certain answer. She considered briefly if she should tell him about what else happened to her. She didn't think of it as a power though. It looked like he hadn't said everything either.

"...I-I can't use them both at once," she added softly. "Right now, I can only do healing. An-and there's also-" But she cut off as Shiro suddenly jumped off the bed, landing nimbly on her shoulder. She turned her head and stared at him a moment, then sighed and watched the floor. "N-never.. mind..."

He turned around fully to look at her then, his crimson eyes unusually wide and curious.

"Also...?" he prompted.

'And just what are you hoping for?'

'Shut up.'

He watched the girl expectantly, though his voice and expression remained somewhat guarded. He wondered why he hadn't just left. He was standing in the doorway like an idiot.

Just go.

Ashori looked up again, surprised at the expression she was getting. So he had been expecting something specific? "Also..." she murmured uncertainly. Shiro raised a tiny paw and tapped her cheek, then turned his three eyes towards Lake. He was curious as well, he'd admit, but he wasn't sure if they should just reveal it to some stranger. He supposed it wouldn't matter all too much.

Alright, he said simply, this time just so Ashori could hear. The girl hesitated, then began fidgeting lightly with the front of her shirt. "Also... I think there's another side of me. Or rather, I know there is.." Her voice was faint, her face twisted in discomfort.

Lake watched her carefully, his hair sliding forwards over one eye and covering the small, oddly-shaped scar upon his cheek...he tilted his head to one side and leaned against the doorframe.

"Another...side?" He slipped his hands into his pockets. His heart was pounding, and although the hope he felt rising slowly in his stomach was suppressed, he could not entirely remove it. He knew it was foolish to have any hope at all - he didn't even know what he was hoping for.

There's no one like me.

Nonetheless, his gaze was unwavering as he watched the girl's reluctant revelations. His eyes shifted back and forth between Ashori's face and the three dark, purple eyes of the creature upon her shoulder.

I guess...he's sort of like...Nat...

His eyes moved downwards then, toward Ashori's chest, as though looking for something. She was indeed wearing a necklace, but perhaps not the one he had anticipated, for a shadow of disappointment passed over his features again. Then, realizing that his eyes were very plainly fixed upon the girl's chest, he scowled a little and looked toward the wall, a touch of red coloring his cheeks.

Ashori nodded her head lightly, and slowly dropped her hands by her sides. Her fingers curled into fists, then the right slowly rose and gripped the end of her bed again. She was still kind of dizzy, just trying hard to hide it. Shiro, do you think he...?

...I do not know. But his reply was hesitant and uncertain. His eyes were focused upon Lake, narrowing slightly as he saw where the boy was staring.

Ashori didn't realize until he'd looked away and his cheeks were lightly red again. Then she reached up, hand grasping the pendant she wore. She shifted uncomfortably in place, but not because he'd been staring. She was remembering how she would be dead, if not for the necklace.

"...do you?" she asked nervously. "Do you have.. another side?" She wasn't sure, but she had a feeling he might. Though, she was prepared for disappointment. People had seemed interested before, but just because they thought it was unusual.

Her question threw him entirely off guard. The red eyes widened, and he took a sudden step backwards, looking almost afraid. His expression was childlike but dazed, and he watched her carefully for a moment or so between suddenly shaky breaths.

'Do you have...another side?'

"..."

FLASH.

Flames. Everywhere. The air itself seemed to sizzle with the intense heat of the fire, spitting glowing embers into the night and encompassing the entire area with smoke and ash. However, the smell of freshly burned wood did not entirely mask the stench of bloodied corpses, and the crackling did little to drown out the screams.

Always screaming.

FLASH.

'The nightmare.'

'Oh gods, what is that?!'

'Monster! Monster!'

'Someone - help! Help!'

FLASH.

Where am I?

Blood...

Am I bleeding...?

No...

Did I...hurt somebody again?

FLASH.

'Do you have...another side?'

His breathing was more rapid now, and he felt suddenly trapped, almost claustrophobic...he took another uneven step backwards, shaking his head vaguely at Ashori, then spun on his heel, disappearing almost instantly out the door and into the fading afternoon sun, cringing against the dull glow that cast Ria High in crimson...

Ashori's eyes widened as she saw the reaction she got. She blinked and glanced at Shiro, but the dog was still staring directly at him, unblinking. So she faced Lake again as well, biting her lip nervously. Should she not have asked? What was going on?

He took a step back and she inched forward. "Ar-are you ok? What happened?" she asked in confusion. But he suddenly turned and fled. Without thinking, Ashori darted after him. "Hey, wait!" she cried.

Except, she was still dizzy from blood loss. So when she stepped slightly out her door and turned to head after him, she managed two stumbling steps before collapsing and landing on her hands and knees. She froze for a moment, the world spinning around her, and squeezed her eyes tightly shut. "W-wait..." she stammered weakly.

Shiro toppled off her shoulder, but caught himself about three inches above the ground and lowered himself gently the rest of the way. He looked after Lake, then faced Ashori again, his canine face somehow showing concern. He still didn't know what she'd done to be injured. He had, however, stolen another peek into Lake's mind, to see what had been going on while he'd appeared so shaken. He hadn't liked what he'd seen. It was so similar...

Lake half-skidded, half-stumbled to a halt at the sound of Ashori collapsing, and he gritted his teeth for a moment in frustration before he found himself turning around once again. His hands were fists at his sides, and they remained that way until he began walking briskly back toward the young girl.

This time, however, he did not make to help her up, and instead, he slid his hands back into his pockets and stopped a few inches in front of her, his gaze averted.

"You know, I just dragged you all the way back to your room," he said softly, not looking at her. "There's really no point in trying to go straight back out again."

...Why did you run after me?

"...You should get some rest," he murmured to the wall. "Besides, I don't think your mutt likes me too much. You'd better go."

Ashori slowly leaned back so she was sitting on her knees, her eyes tightly shut and hands clenched in her lap. The world continued spinning around her, and it certainly wasn't helping her condition at all. But after a moment, she realized the man had come back, and she peeked her right eye open without thinking. The red color could just be made out through the wave of black hair that hid it.

She watched him for a moment, then bowed her head nervously. "S-sorry..." she mumbled, then slowly began pushing herself to her feet. She wobbled on shaky legs for a second, then seemed to regain her balance.

"Why did.. you run away?" she asked weakly, wondering if she'd get a reply or if she shouldn't have bothered asking.
