Well, if you wanna tune skylines and rx7's, america really isn't the best choice, since rx7's are pretty hard to find here, and skylines don't even exist within the domestic market yet. If you wanna go for stuff like that, Japan's where it's at.

An RX-7 Twin Turbo runs about 14 stock, rivaling the BMW M3. That is why even I'd take an RX-7 over pretty much anythiong short of a Ferrari or a GT-500

low 15's....
Must have been one of those crappy GT-S models or something....
Otherwise it probably would've ran at least 14's. Of course, that still wouldn't hold a candle to your ET's sweatdrop

what makes it sad was the kid was running his mouth. i dont know what model it was but it looked decent and that was the end of it. there was a silvia(that sound right?) that ran a 13.5 there though.

Dude, if you have a skyline, and I dont care how it performs (on a road course it'd eat you alive), you're allowed to be a little eliteist. Everyone will hate you, but they have to admit its a damn nice car blaugh . Also maybe it was the driver and not the car. Anyway, Silvias are incredibly nice cars, but you know them in the US as the 240SX.

Was it an R-33 or an R-34 do you think?

From what calenatar is saying, I'm guessing it's either an R32 or R33 GT-S model with an RB25 single turbo. He should have been able to run high 14's stock, but my guess is the little punk was granny shifting xp

Turbo charged Silvias are pretty quick though. Even though going the quarter mile isn't their specialty, sometimes it's kinda hard to resist whee When I was still in Japan, I read about a drag competition that had 3 Silvias breaking into the 9's....

I dont like trubos that much, they help the preformance, but it herts your car after awhile, Ill only get turbo If I have enough money to fix it up or drop a new engin into it.

Ah, ok that makes sence. Right now I am contemplating moving to America. Purly based on the availability of cars, cheap parts, and a whole range of driving conditions. Not to mention I would rather be tuneing Skylines, RX7's and other nice Gems. We just don't get many here. and I HATE OPAL CORSA's, and Golf Mk1s! I wouln't be able to live with myself if I had to tune them for a living.

Any suggestions on where I should move?

skylines and RX7's are pretty rare here too depending on where you live. They wiull be more prominent in larger cities, like in California and Miami

my car is the last car you would ever wanna thing about auto crossing...it weights 4300 lbs. it is however setup to handle much much better than stock. my car(when i crank the shocks all the way up) handles almost as well as a sports car. frankly i do more straight line racing than anything so thats what i set my car up for. i dont know what r-33 or r34 is. all i know is this was a decently quick silvia. i didnt pay attention to the badging on it other than what kind of car it was. i did get outran by a 1984 chevette though. it had a 502 in it. he ended up going sub 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile....i was like eek the car looked stock except for the roll bar. and it was really really quiet till he got on it too. he had drag radials on it too...not slicks so i didnt thing much about it till he blew my doors off.

Turbo chargers are probably the cheapest and easiest way of dramaticaly increasing the power along with super chargers. They do increase engine wear, but so does bad driving, women and any other kinds of forced induction. From what the Subaru guy told me, to take care of a turbo charged engine you gotta let it warm up. Once everything is ship shape and dandy you can have you fun tearing around the track(road). But he also made it clear that you should warm down before just disengaging the engine. He said that you could just continue to drive normally, (slower like all the other trafic) or you could just let it idle for a few minutes.

If you are getting a turbo charged engine from the factory, the factory settings should be fine, as everything from the fuel management to the air intake is correctly dailed in for the most reliable engine.

If you are going to get a aftermarket turbo charger or supercharger, get a pro to do it. And a good one at that. If it wasn't for 913's sound advice I would probably be trying to fit a turbo charger to my moms's ballade ('85 civic sedan) in the middle of the night. He pointed out and made me realise that once you add a whole lot more air, you gotta give it more fuel at the right engine revs, and then you gotta fine tune the boost (and lag time) to driver preference all the while making sure that the spool doesn't spin off, engine knock, etc etc.

Anyway I would definatly turbo charge, probably because I am clinically insane. but also because I want to be known as the best tuner/engine builder/driver. More so the driving part, so much so that I want my own Tuning TV show in Japan, wich would air at 6:22pm Every monday night.

...Japan's where it's at.

That would of corse be the ultimate. I would be able to train in the mountains and all that. But wouldn't the language barrier be quite a problem. I don't want to be putting 14 psi of boost through a customers engine when my boss said 4 psi. Would a tuning shop even hire me as a apprentice? Im sure I would stick out like a sore thumb. And isn't living in Japan very expecive?
Otherwise I would jump at the chance to train in Japan, but the trouble is I don't know anyone there who could vouch for me.
Any Ideas on how I could bust into Japan for training then?

Actually, the cheapest way to boost hp and torque in your car is nitrous. $150 for 100hp is pretty good if you ask me.

As for Japan, you can't work at a shop unless you know how to work your way around cars already. You'd also have to work sales (speaking in Japanese of course) and grind yourself to the bone for 12hours a day, 6 days a week. But, if you can manage that, Blitz and C-West in Kobe are always looking for good help.

So all I would need would be a mechanics degree?!
And be able to speak Japanese!!!
Now working at Blitz would be so KOOWEL!!!
Or...or...DuLuck!!!!! blaugh whee xd

Ok, So I'll knuckle down and get a mechanics degree, and learn Japanese in england while I work there. then when I go to Japan then I'll hand them my CV. But are you sure they would hire a south african, with a english mechanic's licence and a rally licence, who can barely speak the language?

Well, if you could barely speak the language, that would be a problem on the sales side. You not only have to be able understand Japanese, but you also have to know how to talk to customers in Japanese. Speaking from experience, that's a whole different world. But you don't need a mechanic's degree to work there. You just have to know what you're doing around the car. Basics like changing oil and coolant, maintaining brakes, radiator, spark plugs, that kind of thing.

It might be a problem if you don't look Japanese though....My friend's brother works as a shipping manager at Blitz, but he can pull off the Japanese thing because he's Chinese. All joking aside, the may not hire "foreign labor" simply on the basis that you'd scare away customer confidence in the shop.
