Calin turned around and said gruffly, "Who wants to know?" His eyes glanced around the room and he noticed two very important things. First of all, the vampire in front of him looked to be about fourteen. Calin could handle this. Secondly most of the fledglings were scampering to different corners of the room. Time to put his money where his mouth was. He walked up and grinned. "I don't suck at hunting, I simply choose not to. The thought of blood is disgusting. Why can't we eat meat? You know like real men?" Then he sniffed. "So you're going to teach me half pint? Not like I could learn much from you anyway." Calin grinned at the few snickers he heard behind his back and continued. Putting out a hand he shoved the smaller vampire back and sneered. "Probably takes you all night to find somebody small enough for you to handle." He just laughed.

Oh, bad move. Xearus hissed and in an all too fast burst of speed grabbed Calin by the throat, height meaning no difference and threw the younger vampire to the ground roughly. Giving him no chance to recover he slammed the heel of his boot into the creature's throat. Not fatal to a vampire, but it damn well hurt.
"Names Xearus, Master Xearus to you. Not half pint. Pity you're a poor judge of character, well at least by outside appearances." He sneered. "And blood disgusting? Get used to it, it's all you'll be having for a while." Reaching down he grabbed Calin by the collar of his shirt and wrenched him up, throwing him so that he would stumble up to his feet.
Brushing off his sleeve he picked a fang, throwing a look to the others that made them shrink back some. Then he walked past Calin and gestured for him to follow. "Come on, pretty boy. You have a thing or two to learn."

Calin was still laughing when he hit the ground. He hadn't been expecting that and when the bootheel hit his throat he winced in pain. He finally stumbled after being thrown and looked at him nodding. "Yes Master Xearus." He had been wrong...very wrong. And now he was going to pay for it. He was going to have to work twice as hard to get the others to respect him now. He glared at Xearus' back and walked out the door. He'd learn to hunt all right and at some point he'd get Xearus back for making him look like an idiot.

They hit the street now, a slight wind picking up in the night, carrying the scents of the city. Clear sky, moon and stars out, a fine night for hunting indeed. The true well versed predator in Xearus was coming out. And it was best not to cross him. "First step Calin...I'm sure you've settled into your naturally heightened senses...at least a little."
Xearus reached out with his own senses, picking out the predetermined victim, or victim rather. Middle aged couple, nicely aged. Cold iridescent gray eyes turned on Calin. "Find what I've already picked up. It's a couple, they're middle aged. Both married, but not to each other. Both smoke." Yes, Xearus could tell that too...humans really did stink of many things.
He shoved his hands in his pockets, taking on an uninterested look. "When you find them, lock on and tell me...pretty boy."

Calin was still new at this so it took him a little while. He glared at Xearus and really hated being called pretty boy. He sniffed lighlty and moved his head, searching. Finally he had them. Yep, middle aged couple. He could tell they weren't married to each other? How did he know that? He could smell the cigarrette smoke rolling off of both of them and he looked at Xearus. "I've got 'em."

Walking past Calin he gave him a pat on the arm. "That's a good fledgling. Now come on." A pick at his fangs again and they walked casually, Xearus changing direction to keep track and parallel to said victims of the hunt. Close but not too close, and not close enough to go for yet.
"Tell me Calin. How do you go about catching one of these little buffets? Remember now to account for them both and other factors such as weapons into the equation." He wanted to see how much Calin already sucked. Swear to his fangs if the fledge said run and pounce...

Calin looked at the middle aged couple and scoffed. "Look at them. They're not that big and they clearly can't defend themselves. Why not just run up and grab them. Then like I don't know drag them off into the shadows. After all they're smaller and we're supposed to be dominant right?" Calin really didn't know much but he figured his brawn could help him out immensely in the vampire world...or it would have. But even this kid was stronger than he was. It didn't make any sense. He looked at Xearus expecting to get a nod and a good pretty boy. Even though he hated the pretty boy the good job would have been perfect to hear.

"No wonder Lord Adrik told me to do this. You don't have a clue do you? I'm surprised you're still so well fed looking...been munching on scraps?" He shook his head. "It's not about how they look. Didn't you learn anything from your ******** up earlier." So started the foul language.
"You've read far to many vampire novels." He cleared his throat. "Now, it is always better to trick as a first approach. They don't scream when you make your move and its usually less strenuous on your energy and body." He snapped his fingers, it looked like Calin's attention was wandering. "Pay attention, pretty boy."
Xearus knew his trick, he liked to play lost boy. But a look to Calin as Xearus lead then a little closer. "Tell me, what trick would you use?"

Semara perched on a rooftop from a distance just listening. The faintest starlight caused a glint in her purple flamed eyes and the blue shine to show on her hair that was pulled back nice and neat for a hunt. Her hand had healed quite a bit, but more blood always helped. Her teeth bared and she let out a long, slow hiss into the night air causing a visible chill to run up the spine of a man walking down an alley for a shortcut. Stupid humans, do they not know that they die in alleys? Well, she could always do the community a favor and remind them.
Jumping from the rooftop she landed quite easily and with little noise behind the skinny little man in his business suit. He was just under middle aged and already balding horribly with the worst comb over she had ever seen. Moving quickly she hid behind a dumpster at his back and made one noise purposefully, the clink of metal on metal. The man turned with the initial horror movie expectation look on his face, and listened a moment. Then he shook his head, shrugged his shoulders, pulled his tranchcoat tighter around him, and walked on, his pace only the slightest bit quicker.
A jump, and run and she was ahead of him, making another noise a light scraping of nails on metal siding. The man jumped a bit, stopped dead in his tracks. Yes, this one was a bit paranoid now. To comfort him, and stop some of the sweat beading on his brow, she made a cat noise. Simple, just a stray sharpening it's claws. He still had a worried look on his face and when he started walking again, he was even faster than before. She whispered, "Pretty good Mr. Business suit." After letting him walk for a while, she hid in some shadows and waited for him to move by her, just beyond her then she let out a moan. He turned and saw that she was an attractive woman lying there, with a bit of dirt on her forehead and a skimpy looking outfit on. His best guess a prostitute who smoked too much or had a rough customer. That was feasible with the type of place it was and with what looked like blood on her face and stomach. Slowly he approached her. "Mi-miss?"
"Help..." So much work for food, no not work, it was fun. Her eyes had a glazed over look to them and she reached one hand out to him. Very tentatively he walked over to her, and falling for the helpless woman ploy he knelt beside her and started checking her would be wounds. When he was close enough, she grabbed his arms, crouched and jumped around him, bending is arms in the process, and threw one hand over his mouth as he went to call for help. Poor man was sitting on his own legs, taking care of that for her, but what would that matter soon anyway?
With all the paranoia he had, his blood pumped fast as she bit into his flesh to taste the sweet rosy substance that kept her running. The deep red that put fire back into her eyes as she drank her fill. When she finished, she hid the body and resumed her running of the streets, now just observing, and waiting as her hand healed. Another man taken down in an alleyway. Ah community service, it made her feel warm and fuzzy inside, or was that the fresh blood?

Calin scratched his head and looked at Xearus blankly. Trick? What was he talking about. Oh that must have been that old dude's speech earlier. Talking about using the shadows and stuff like that. What was it he had said? Oh yea, when sneaking up cloaking helps. "Cloaking?" It was just a guess and he wasn't sure if he was right or not though Xearus would definitely let him know.

Smack to the face. "Wrong. Cloak?" He scoffed. "You're too young to cloak. I can barely do it." He shook his head and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Just play along."
He grabbed Calin by the wrist and soon the pair found themselves not parallel, but in front in plan view of the couple. Xearus had hold of Calin's hands, those hands placed around the elder vampire's neck and gripping tight. "Hold tight."
Xearus put on a false show of a struggled. "No! Let me go!" A show of little teenage strength. "Help!" Ha, it was grand, looked like he was being mugged by an older boy. Now for them to take the bait.

Calin hissed as he was smacked in the face and then looked over at them. He had no idea what Xearus was talking about until he had his hands around his neck. Well this was nice. Xearus could play the poor helpless teenager and Calin coudl fit nicely into his role as well. He squeezed tightly and then said, "Come on half pint." A smack to the face. "Show me what you got!" He grinned stupidly and tried to toss Xearus into the wall.

Oh Calin was pushing and pushing hard, just wait until this was over. But he was patient with him, let him throw him into the wall and pin him there. Said victims were well interested and eager to help...they were rushing right over into the trap.
But with Calin not knowing anything, Xearus had to take things into his own hands. He kicked Calin hard in the stomach, making the other release him and grabbed the man as soon as he was in reach, grabbing him by the neck. The woman was lashed out at and her ankle broken.
Xearus had a hand over the man's mouth to prevent sound, the woman was starting to scream. "Take care of her you damned fledgling!" Command given, Xearus went out sinking his fangs into his own meal's neck.

Calin stared at him stupidly for a minute and then looked at teh woman. Her eyes were wide with fear and she started to scream. He instantly tackled her to the ground and clumsily put his hand over her mouth. She bit him and he howled in pain then it occurred to him to bit her to shut her up. "Damn b***h. Now you're going to die!" He bit into her neck and started drinking, blood going everywhere. He was getting sprayed and he didn't understand why...what the hell had happened? "Xearus....what did I do wrong?" It never occurred to him that when he had tackled her, he had cracked open her head.

Semara sat, eyes closed, listening intently again, this time amongst the noise she picked up some raised voices, one recognized as the shrillness of a young boy. A particular young looking boy anyway. The other she did not recognize but she decided to get closer and watch.
First any sound of distress in her friend Xearus' voice concerned her, then struck her as stupid, knowing him too well. So as she watched she assumed that it had to be a little play she was watching. Licking the blood from around her mouth and hands(she was a messy eater tonight) she made sure she was cleaned up enough and put back on her half jacket to somewhat cover the skimpy halter she was wearing. It was just for show anyway. She slipped on her gloves and her traditional tight black pants over the rest of her skimpy outfit, flexing her hand once to find it much better.
After watching a bit, she clearly heard the word fledgling and sighed. She had ducked dealing with them for the most part, but saw that Xearus was stuck with one. A shake of the head, a jump, and she landed on the ground nearby, leaning on a wall, not bothering to help because newbie had to learn. As more comments were made, she chuckled and clapped her hands, "Nice going with your fledge there." She was slightly reserved.
