Glad to be free from the snakes binding grip he pressed the attack, stabbing and thrusting again and again with his spear. "Why won't you die or just bugger off you blasted pest!!"

In an apparently miraculous hit for it's accuracy, Paul's spear slices the snake's head off, and the thing gives a shriek, just as the spear hits. It then falls to the ground, dead, at his feet, the amulet sliding off.

Paul gave the snakes body a few pokes with the end of the spear to make sure it was dead before he flopped to the ground nearby, relieved that the ordeal was finally over with. In contrast to his earlier struggle with the Ga'shene Paul was actually glad to have killed the vile snake and had a sense of accomplishment from finishing it off and surviving it all. He rolled over towards the snakes body and picked up the amulet, examining it for a moment before sticking it into a pocket and slowly getting to his feet. As he set off back to the witches hut he moved with a limp, winching every so often from the pain of the wound sustained from the snake bite. "This had better have been worth all the bloody trouble I've been through."

When he arrived, the witch(es?) were waiting for him. "OH! You were injured, here!" They offered him a healing potion, and escorted him inside. "You got it, wonderful! If you'll sit down and take your potion, we'll get you your shinies!"

Paul nodded to the old ladies and sat down, tossing the amulet onto the nearest table as he did. He glanced at teh potion for a moment then just shrugged and downed it in one gulp, knowing his luck it would be poisoned or he'd have an allergic reaction, the best he might hope for was that the end would be quick.

The wounds heal right up, with no sign of anything wrong. No reactions, either. The magic of a healing potion did it's work. The old witch(es) shuffle back over and hand him a sack that clinks. It falls partially open, revealing 2 hunks of steel ore, 1 gold, and 1 darkstone with in it. "There you go! A proper reward for our helpful hero! Thanks!"

Paul stretched his ow healed leg a few times testing it and was pleased to see it was entirely healed and as good as new. When the witch(es) returned with the sack he opened it and examined the contents, moving over to be able to examine them in the light. He particularly admired the lustre of the gold, gazing at it with a kind of child like glee. Eventually he returned the chunks of metal to the sack and he added in the piece of steel he had found earlier and tied the sack to a belt loop. He got up and headed towards the exit, but stopped as a thought struck him, he turned round and spoke to the witch(es) "I don't suppose you have any other little jobs you might need help with?" There was a slight glint in his eye, a greedy impulse to acquire more of these little rocks. True he had gone through some hassle to get back that amulet but it had been worth it for these stones and thanks to the witch he was as good as new, besides it was his civic duty to help the elderly. At least that's how he tried to justify his new found greed to his conscience.

The two heads looked at each other, then back at him and laughed. "Sorry sonny. Not today. We appreciate the offer. Thank you. All we need to do is get back to work, now we can do it!"

With a defeated sigh he shrugged and left the old hut, the sun was still pretty high in the sky so he had some time yet to explore some more. He decided to head back to where he had first come upon the series of intersecting paths and maybe try a different route and see where it would lead.

Things seemed quiet so far as he headed back, no signs of beast nor anyone desiring quests of him. The paths loom ahead, and oddly, there seems to be a new one, or perhaps he just hadn't seen it before.

Pausing for a moment at the turn off towards this new path, Paul wondered how he might have missed it earlier. He gave a shrug and started down the path.

This path was very serene. It was jungle covered, but in such a way as to make it feel as if one was walking down a cool, green tunnel. The leaves swayed, there was a soft breeze, and it just seemed very peaceful. Until the grass scorpion skittered across the path and paused, then turned, waving it's tail challengingly.

Seeing the scorpion in his path Paul scowled at it and readied the spear, after the ordeal he had been through with that snake he had no intention of taking any chances with this creature. He trust at it, trying to use the extra reach of the spear to his advantage by keeping the scorpion at a distance, or at least that was his plan.

The scorpion makes an angry screech as the spear hits it in a joint in it's armor, piercing its flesh. It struggled but was unable to stop the damage. ((-2/??))
