I'm Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. I own a girdle, or owned it, until Heracles took it away...

I've always liked the myths of the Amazons and I guess that carried over into my love of the Wonder Woman comics. (Speaking OOC, of course.) I think many of you would like the comics right now because there are a lot of mythological elements in it at the moment. (Athena has just overthrown Zeus and is the ruler of Olympus while Wonder Woman is in the Underworld. Some of her friends were captured by Echidna but she rescued them, and in the next issue, Cerberus is going to show up. smile )

I read the posts where you guys were talking about red hair. I have red hair IRL, and it's from when the Vikings were hanging out in Russia. Do you guys know about that, too?

So, I'm really interested in mythology, especially mythology that hasn't do with Greek mythology (which is all I really know a lot about). I also love fairy tales, especially fairy tales whose roots can be traced into myth.

I am Perseus, Son of Zeus and Danae (how do you make an "e" with 2 dots above it?)!!! I was set asail along with my mother in a wooden box because i was fated to kill my grandfather (Acrisius, King of Argos)...We somehow reached a faraway land near a good fisherman's house...He raised me and took care of meh mother. (Writing in the 1st person is hard..) Then the king of the land fell in love with my mother. But he wanted to get rid of me by tricking me to try and kill one of the gorgons and bring back its head...So i traveled long distances to try and find where the gorgons lived. Then Hermes and Athena came to help me. They gave me supplies. (wheeee a cool sword!!!). So i went to the island where the gorgons lived. They were all asleep. I cut off medusa's head and flew away using the sandals Hermes gave. I returned to my home and turned the king to stone by using the bloody,wrangled mess of a head...The End...um...Remember what i said about killing my grandfather?... well... i killed him accidentally at a discus throwing contest....I was like minding my own business... I threw my discus, it went into the crowd, and hit my grandfather...wheee

Welcome! biggrin I never actually knew the whole story of Perseus before, but now that you mention it, it reminds me of an Italian fairy tale... But which one? I can't remember. confused Fairy tales are so fascinating that way--they take myth and transform it.

i'm Cassandra

Cassandra was the daughter of Priam, king of Troy, and Hecuba. She was also the twin sister of Paris of Troy and a priestess of the Greek Apollo (the god of the sun). She prophesied the fall of Troy, but due to a 'curse' was not believed until it was too late.

According to the Greek legends, Apollo wished to sleep with Cassandra, and when she would not give in he cursed her so that no one would believe her even though she spoke the truth. During the actual fall of Troy Cassandra sought refuge in the Temple of the Maiden (Athena), and according to some texts was raped by the lesser Ajax.

She was then given as a war prize to Agamemnon, but is said to have perished with Agamemnon at the hand of Clytemnestra (Agamemnon's wife).
