Zacius
lets just define it

Emo songs are softer than punk in general

Then to specifics

Punk: whining about how soceity keeps you down, the man is evil, the system rules all, X band sold out

Emo: Hardcore Punk subgenre based around introverted lyrics rather than politics.

Oh but i like punk

i just realise that the movement died a long time before reagan did

Go listen to Angel Hair or Hassan I Sabbah and tell me thats softer than Punk.

Good music is good music, no matter what the genre. To me, if its a written well or has been composed and/or arranged to be pleasing to the ear, I'll listen. Punk has its strong suits *The Misfits* and Emo has its own *Jimmy Eat World*, so i can go either or.

Punk- I think Emo is the stupidest sub culture since the Kogal explosion in Japan in the mid 90's to today. Emotional punk? cut the crap and give me the god ol' stuff like The Ramones, The Clash, The Misfits, Sisters Of Mercy and Sixousie and The Banshees anyday over that new cash cow trend

Jimmy Eat World... hmmm... depends on wich period of emocore music you are refering to. As far as I'm concerned the mainstream scene knows nothing of emotional hardcore music.

For me... Punk Rock all the way... also like Hardcore Punk bands.

Emocore originated from punk bands experimenting with different lyrical styles. Without Punk Rock, emocore wouldn't exist.

Punk is dead, and the stuff that pretends to bee punk is terrible. However, I have a violent hatred of emo. If we're talking classic punk, though, punk beats emo every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Punk is dead... right rolleyes
Last time I checked a genre can't be dead unless there are actually no longer any bands playing the music or if it has lost most of its fans. Punk hasn't. Most of its fans confine themselves to the underground scene. Its quite stupid to say punk is dead when I hear tons of new stuff every week.

Depends on what you consider punk & emo.
Like as far as emo goes, Rites of Spring is an awesome old, old traditional emo band & I usually hate emo wtih a fierce passion..but they were actually good.
None of this "I buried a dead body..because you dumped me" crap.

Regardless of what you consider to be emotive hardcore, the definition of emo is fixed and not something to be debated over as many people would like to think. There is very little difference between emocore music and hardcore punk. They are essentially the same only emocore dared to venture into deep discriptive emotional lyrics rather than anti-social/political themes.

People who say "punk is awesome but emo sucks" usually have no ******** clue what they are talking about and have probably heard very little of both genres.

Pissed off at the world versus broken hearts and dreams....that's tough. Probably emo. ^^ It's got more feeling than just the "******** you!" kind of bands setteled into the punk genre.
