At night I'll hang my head in shame...

"Yes, we strike then," Zev roared in her 'leadership-tone', "by the Gods, we shall be the victors in this bloody war!" For a shining moment Zev felt like howling but she didn't want to give away their position just yet and so she'd save it for tomorrow when hopefully their assault would have been a success. For now she'd have to let the burning rage inside her die down so that she would be able to rest tonight, but it would quickly build up again tomorrow during the fight. Zev was very excited because this would be her first battle and if all went to plan then she would prove herself to be a worthy leader. If things went wrong though, they'd have to make a quick retreat, but weren't they running anyway? It was slightly ironic: fighting to run away.

"Nice to meet you, Iarni." Faolan stated with a kind tone. Being at the young stage he was, the little cub hadn't adopted the harsh, cold-hearted way of speaking that Zev possesed and so just like himself he expected all other wolves to be just nice like him; - obviously they weren't - but he was small-minded in that respect. Now that Iarni was approaching him, Faolan could get a better look at the stone planted on Iarni's face. It was highly unusual and the boy had to stop himself from staring. He quickly went to answer the other cub, "'Adult-talk' is what Mum calls it. It's one of those conversations where she comes back saying that everything's going to be alright, but I know it's not. You know those sort of chats?" Faolan inclined his head and his eyebrows drooped as he looked back at the den's entrance.

Kaytar himself almost howled, but he shared the same sensibility as his leader, and kept his mouth shut. After speaking of secrecy and discretion, to make their position known to the dogs would have been a foolish move - as well as an embarrassing one. Instead, he wagged his tail with much enthusiasm, and a dark glint in his eye matched the luminosity of his white teeth. Yet neither did he want to dramatize the atmosphere worse by adding his own finale to Zev's speech. Perhaps-

"BY THE GODS-!" Riyora exclaimed, as if intending to say more. But an enraged Kaytar went for her, and she snapped silent after almost being knocked over by the bigger wolf. She flattened her ears and frowned at him with twisted eyebrows, hurt.

"Shut up," Kaytar said, stunned by her stupidity. "Nobody wants to know we're here, do they? WE don't want anybody to know we're here. So keep your mouth shut!" Riyora's mouth downturned unattractively.

Iarni, without looking at Faolan, began to turn and twist and sniff about the place, intrigued. "Not really," she said. "You are the first wolves we've really met properly. We've been able to avoid colliding with strange packs, so conversations have only been between myself and my sis. Plus, she tells me everything." With a little too much haughtiness, Iarni added with obvious self-approval: "I'm old enough to understand the perils that await us in this world. I can take any kind of information, but Riyora... still seems to think I'm just a cub."

Zev was almost tempted to laugh when Kaytar lunged for Riyora; she was far too pleased with their plot to be shouting and handing out punishments to care. For the mean-time she would leave Kaytar to it, since he clearly knew what he was doing and so merely gave some quick 'evils' with her eyes and then went back to her prideful look. The days that were to follow were going to be very entertaining and Zev couldn't wait to get started. Unfortunatley though, it had gotten far too dark outside now and so all thoughts about readying themselves for the trekking were washed away from memory. "If we are successful, we'll have plenty of time for shouting then," she muttered with some seriousness, but not as much as she would usually have.

"I think I know what you mean," Faolan said with slight confusion as he watched Iarni move around inside the den, "but Mum sometimes keeps me in the dark, I sometimes wonder if she thinks I'm scared about the outside world, but I'm not." He ended with that same old childish boldness that contained masses of exaggeration. For some time he let his eyes follow the other cub with interest, she seemed nice enough and was more than prepared to talk, so Faolan took an liking to her - though it didn't really take much for Faolan to like people - and so he merely observed and pondered on what she'd come up with as a reply.

Kaytar simply watched Zev, silently accepting that their discussion had come to a close. But Riyora was feeling sulky after the only attention she'd received had been aggressive talk from Kaytar. He never let her speak. In fact, it seemed as though Zev didn't want to hear Riyora's opinions ever, either. This epiphany offended and upset the Diamond wolf greatly. A tear twinkled in her eye. They're so biased... They don't care, they don't understand... Maybe I should just find a hole somewhere and crawl in and die... My life is so awful!

She turned roughly away, sniffing softly. Kaytar peered at her curiously, then shrugged inwardly. Riyora was upset again. Maybe he had been a little unkind to her... Well, more than usual. But no words of apology could be scavenged in his head, so he simply turned away and headed for his spot above the den's hole. It was now confirmed - they would attack at dawn.

Iarni gave another one of her childish, self-assuming, almost skeptical sighs. "No need to convince me," she said haughtily. "There's no shame in being afraid of the outside world, Faolan." She faced him with what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "I know you're fearful of what's out there." She was extremely confident in herself suddenly, as if having another cub to dominate had made her feel superior. After all, only she had a rare, precious rock embedded in her head... The diamond in her forehead gave her an odd... reassurance, too. She was superior to this mangy, orange little scrap. Oh, how vulnerable he was! Such a shame she had years of wisdom he could never fathom...
