User Image♠ Don't let images fool you, today was a black shirt day, which meant a white vest and a fun tie. Venriel would swear by his most signature style. He would, also, swear by the cafe's apple pie. As he took another bite of it, a cloud then obscured part of the window. This impediment broke his gaze as it entered, and instead brought it to the stick topped in white. No, that is mean, and Venriel wasn't like that. His gaze fell upon the slender maroon and brown form as the boy straightened his frames. The boy seemed detached and unobservant of the world around him. It looked as though he lived in his own world. He also looked new. Venriel had not seen his face around before on an off day. Just what he was looking for, new blood that he could rope into enlisting in his area of expertise, small diversions.

As the boy spilled bright yellow crystals, Venriel reached into one of his vest pockets and retrieved another deck of cards. He began cutting the deck a few times, and then began shuffling them while the boy played with the pile of crystals. When he shunted then back to his bag, Venriel stopped and drew the top card from the deck. It was a tarot deck and he drew Wheel of Fortune. The major arcana of Opportunities; Possibilities; Destiny; Fate. Perhaps it was destiny or fate that the boy came to the circus, but it was certain that many opportunities and possibilities lay before him. Venriel flicked his wrist and snapped his fingers, sending the card soaring through the air as he deposited the remainder of the deck back in his pocket. The card hit the boys table on one of its corners(the card's corners) and spun upon it for a second or so before falling face down on the table before the boy. With that, Venriel just took another bite of pie and continued to watch.

Not that anyone observing or near him would know, but Christos was currently sorting the crystals into uses. Larger ones could be used in summonings, but the small ones, ground down into a fine powder and with the correct root of a certain willow tree that lined the town's little woods; it could be used as healing if other ingredients were added in the correct order that is.

He selected one before, placing the rest back into the draw string pouch and tucking it back in his one strapped satchel. The selected crystal was pocketed on his person in the large coat he was wearing, hidden in one of it's many compartments. It was then that the card caught his attention; well it practically flew in front of him. A little alarmed, he blanched back from the table, before frowning at the paper back intruder, and reaching out with a slim pale hand, to pick it up and examine it.

His mind reeled with answers to the strange thing. First off; appearance.
'Tarot card... Used by fortune tellers and such for predicting outcomes.. I should look over their meanings..'
Then, texture, the boy flipped it over in his hands, and back again, running the pad of his thumb over it as he felt the slight indents in the image on it..
'Hand painted or made, suggesting its not bought from a shop, local or otherwise..So it's a real one, not a souvenir.
He proceeded to raise it to his lips and took a sniff, for scent. He closed his eyes briefly as he returned the card to the table, trying to locate the several scents he'd gotten.
'..Dark.. Oak wood.. No buildings here in town are made with it.. meaning it's from one of the mansions supposedly..And... fine cotton, possibly a richer texture..suits..suits smell like this..' With his final observation drawn he opened his eyes, and allowed the framed cerise coloured orbs to skim the room, before settling on a man clad in black and white, with long mint green hair.

The frown remained on his face; why was a stranger throwing cards at him.?
Sure, Christos was bright, his mind worked... differently from others, but he still was naive when it came to another person's intent.

User Image♣♠ It was mildly entertaining to watch the boy. Other than the initial jump of surprise, the boy's reactions were completely not what he was expecting. The boy seemed more intrigued by the card, and instead of immediately searching for a source, he studied it. Traced his finger along the surface analyzing its texture. He even sniffed it. It was as if he was more fascinated by the card itself, than the symbolism behind it. Even though Venriel couldn't tell what the boy was thinking, the boys analysis was right. It was a hand pressed card made by a mystic scribe, who made all the divining items within Alistar's Mansion. After all that analysis, the card finally did part of its job, the boy then scanned the cafe for its origin. "That is not a face I would expect after such a good fortune." He said to the boy in response to his frown.

With that Venriel heaved out of his seat and took two long strides as he straightened his legs before continuing his approach in more of a saunter or swagger. As his hands left his table, his left hand snatched a card from the pile he was building with and began to roll it betwwen his fingers like a coin. Once he arrived at the boy's table, he rested his left hand on its surface and leaned slightly on it, with the card under the palm of his hand. With his other hand he grabbed the tarot card. "The wheel of Fortune. It means Destiny, Fate, Opportunity, and Possibility." He said as he turned the face of the card towards the boy. "It is your reading. So I would suppose you are new here, and brought by destiny or fate. And that plenty of opportunities and possibilities lay ahead of you. At least, that is what the cards tell me." He mused and then slid the card into the band around his fedora, letting it poke out like a feather. Then lowered his hand down for a shake. "Venriel Stier, if you have been to the circus at least once I am sure you have heard of me." He introduced himself letting his ego boast about his assumed fame.

A little aware of his sudden stare at the other male, the boy felt heat rise to his face, staining the pale skin with a dusk of a pale pink blush, that matched his eyes uncannily. He hadn't been aware though, of the other's eyes on him first.
As the tall male rose and approached his table, the boy felt slightly flustered, and Christos, tried to busy himself with tidying the pile of dusty books on his table; into a neater order, tucking in the sketches of various animals, magic circles, and what not, back into the books.

From the corner of his eye he saw the other's approach halt, as he had reached the edge of Christos' table; he'd moved with such confidence, it made the little mage self concious of himself, earning the current stranger, a squirm from the ivory haired teen; as he tried to get into a comfier sitting position.
The man was soon leaning slightly over him, with the table as his prop, mint green hair coming into view, as Christos averted his eyes down, trying not to let the strands loose form the other's plait, too near him as his eyes remained on the tarot card on his table.

Said orbs did follow it though as it was picked up, his gaze returning to the other's face.
'Wheel of fortune, fate?' "M-my reading... I got a reading?"
He mentally kicked himself for stammering softly over the first word as he had spoken, but curiosity lit his face. He'd never had his cards read before..

At the introduction, a vague spark of recognition lit in his cerise eyes, and he seemed to be lost in thought for a moment before the haze cleared from his eyes.
"Ah, my parents took me when I was younger, and they themselves visit frequently.. Does Philoctetes sound familiar.. they spoke of a man who read cards before.. Don't you normally charge?" He was naively curious at the other's profession, and that showed. Luckily it shone past his usually social awkwardness.

User Image♣ It seemed the boy did not expect receiving any attention as with Venriel's attention he began scrambling to straighten up his small mess on the table. Though beyond that, it seemed as though his mere presence made the boy uneasy. It was amusing really, if the boy was so uneasy from just an approach it would be fun to see the reaction from toying with him further. "Yep, I was curious... and interested. So, I decided to see what the cards had to say about you." He said as he retracted his hand. Well, there goes that trick... He thought with some disappointment. Venriel was going to make the card magically move from his hat to the boys hand as they shook, but he just left him hanging.

Venriel straightened up a bit so he wasn't leaning on the table, and so, he resumed twirling the normal playing card in his left hand. "Philoctetes... Philoctetes... perhaps, I think there was a couple who shared that last name that loved to visit us often. Well, I do card readings from time to time, but I mostly leave that to Thrice, our fortune teller. Too bad you don't know me for my more magnificent displays." He said with a tinge of disappointment that he wasn't known for his greater feats. Not everyone can stroke your ego. "I can't charge you for my curiosity, and interest. Though, if I did a full reading I might have. I assume you are related to the Philoctetes in some way. What brings you out here on an off day?" His tone became a bit quizzical.

.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.☩☩.☩.☩.☩.☩☩.☩.☩.☩.☩☩.☩.☩.☩.☩.

As the man's hand lowered back to his side Christos saw the flash of disappointment crossing his face, and felt the twitch of his brow for a frown. The boy had never been offered a hand shake so formerly before, he hadn't noticed it when it was happening. If he had he would have been embarrassed for refusing such a thing in the first place; but alas, was his character flaw. He just wasn't brilliant with people as he was with spells and books.

The idea of the man being curious, had him a little wary, and he moved to align one of his sketches more with the corners of his books that they were crammed in to. His parents were rich nobles yes, that probably would have cried at the thought of their child not knowing the famous card dealer and showman; but they were not here to correct him. The two had also never taken an interest in him either; as his older sister stole the spotlight. She was amazing at parties, balls and social gatherings, always with the best hair, new dresses and a brilliant converser, where he just hid in the corner, waiting for the banquets and socialising to end. So for some one to say they were interested, to him was an odd thought.

He nodded at the mention of the fortune teller, before clarifying, his connection to the noble couple who lived for the high life and riches that it brought.
"They are my parents.. All...although I don't really think they'd have mentioned me before..aheh..."
He ended with a nervous dry cough of a laugh, not really sure how to announce his parent's displeasure with him; running a hand through those soft white spikes that still had not settled from the wind outside.

"I'm.. actually looking f..for Adrian . Alistair.. My parents wished for me to talk to him about my..umm.. studies.." He did not know whether this man should be told everything, and snce most people outside of the town and area, thought magic was a load of rubbish; he felt ashamed to admit that it was his passion.

User Image Again the boy shuffled around his books trying to hide the loose contents of it. Now that just draws suspicion and curiosity... something Venriel doesn't like to deal with long. So,while the boy was playing with his book and not paying attention to him, he stopped twirling the card in his hand, and gave it a flick of his wrist as he snapped the card from his hand once again. Like a man pulling a tablecloth out from under a feast, the card darted between the pages of the book and grabbed only the loose paper that the boy just adjusted, and nothing else within the book was disturbed. Making it look like the boy messed up trying to hide the paper and knocked it out instead. The trick sent the card and the paper fluttering to the ground next to them. "Oh dear, let me get that for you." Venriel said as he scooted around the table to pick up the paper, and palm the card back into his hand, hiding the evidence of his action. Venriel looked at the page as he pulled it from the ground before handing it to the boy. "Magic circle, huh?" Venriel questioned. "Well, if you do magic, then you are in the right place my friend, and you will be perfect me." Venriel did not finish that sentence of purpose, he wanted to toy with him a bit. The complete sentence would have been "You are perfect for be because I am deal with organizing all the small shows that go on outside of the main stage. You would fit right in."

♣ Venriel never talked to the Philoctetes much other than the usual, "how did you do that," or "How did you know," but Venriel wasn't going to say that. "Well, what is your name? They may have dropped it once or twice." He asked. It was funny to see the kid trying to play it off all cool by running his hand through his hair while giving a dry laugh.

"I'm.. actually looking f..for Adrian . Alistair.. My parents wished for me to talk to him about my..umm.. studies.."

♣♠ Looking for the boss man, for studies.... ha. Venriel struggled not to chuckle. "Lookin' for the boss man, huh? I can take you to him after you finish, if you would like. I am sure he can help you with any 'studies' you want. Though, if it is studies of the body, I would refer you to the House of Sin, and blades... well, you don't look the type, so I won't bother. But after your studies and you are ready to give your 'class presentation,' let me know and I'll be sure to attract an audience." He joked as he was replacing practice and performances for more... "study" related terms.

As what he thought was his own mistake in re-shuffling. He reached out for it as the other picked it up; face flushing with embarrassment.
"A-ah! Wait that's just, I mean it.. it doesn't..."
His ramblings as excuses ended as the other seemed to take it seriously. Which he let out a sigh of relief for. Christos had been at the wrong end of the stick when it came to bullying when he was younger, and trying to tell any of his class men about the world he knew existed had always been a lost cause. But This man seemed to regard it with actual thought, not just foolishness.
'What does he mean by that exactly?' Curiosity was eating away at him, so he voiced his thoughts.
"P-perfect for what? I don't understand?"

When asked for his name, he paused, there had been a somewhat dryness about the way he had said it as if the boy's actions had irritated the man maybe. Not that he knew why, he had ran a hand through his hair out of nervousness, and nothing more. The other's confidence just made it all the more harder to socialize.
"Oh right..Its Chr-..Christos Philoctetes .. Or j-just Chris.." He cut out the rather embarrassing long full greek name his parents had given him. They were going through a phase at the time of his birth; a Grecian one at that.

He frowned now at the comment on 'body' and 'blades'; the man was speaking in riddles, there were barbed hidden meanings that Chris just hadn't spotted before answering.
"I've studied a-anatomy of people, and plants and animals.. if thats what you mean, but never weapons.. But could you really take me there?" He couldn't help the hopefulness in his tone right now. The stranger would be saving him hassle.

User Image Relief washed over the boy as Venriel accepted that he was capable of magic. It was as if he had never been to this circus. Venriel began thinking of the fun that could be had "welcoming" him to the circus. It seemed that his incomplete thought had the desired results as the boy was left to question "Perfect for what?" "Perfect for a small act in the circus. What did you think I meant?" He said as a playful smile stretched across his face.

"Well, I have heard of you now." He said after finally coaxing out the boy's name. He barely recognized the boys sir name there was no way he was going to recognize his first even if he had heard it before. By now it was becoming very apparent that Chris here wasn't a very social one. Venriel struggled to hold back his laughter at his naivety. "Yeeesss... let's go with that." He said with a long drawn out awkward "yes." "Yeah, I can take you to see the boss man. I have to head back to the mansion soon anyway. Got a party to plan for." He informed Chris. "First thing first though...." He said as he turned and returned to his own table grabbed his fork and ate the last bite of his pie.

The man's words offered promise to him, and the boy hadn't actually assumed anything, was merely intrigued. So when he had mentioned an act the mage was enveloped in his own little world in his head at the idea.
'An act..? As in a performer?! I'd be in the circus?!'

A smile broke out over his face, hard to contain his excitement, as he thought about the possibilities. His parents, who always favoured that frivolous sociable sister, would see him in the circus, it would be his moment, and they could no longer look down on that meek uninteresting book worm of a second child. Awkward and quiet, but now he could perform?!
The other's words about seeing the 'boss man' as it was put, jogged him from his thought. His cheeks flushed slightly, embarrassed at being caught in such a day dream there for a moment.

Seeing Venriel finish off his cake made the young mage in training move then. He started to shovel the books and any other contents that was on the table back into his bag, before fastening it shut with the worn out buckles, evidence that the bag had been over filled like this before. He reached in and buttoned up the toggles on his thick winter coat that hung heavy on his frame before standing, pulling his bag over his shoulder.
"Ah yes, I'm ready to go too." Sure he hadn't eaten, but he wasn't really hungry and had already paid for it, so there was no inconvenience to the cafe staff.

Once stood up, despite them both being male, and Christos only being a little into average height, the mint haired male still towered over him, causing him to sept back a little, hand subconsciously twisting in the shoulder strap of his bag in a timid fashion.
