I have to beat LOL/Gary/Green without dying. burning_eyes
I freaking hate him...I can't believe he has two Psychic types on his team. crying
Edit: I somehow feel like I should totally be dead in this Nuzlocke. eek I always seem to reset when fighting my rival. *shakes fist at LOL* scream He's evil...like Diglett's Cave.
Where is a good place to grind... emo

I got a Hitmonchan from the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. heart Named him Hitomoshi. Everyone in the dojo was so over-leveled compared to my pokémon. gonk But luckily, the "karate master" was an idiot. Dracula ( LV 28 ) defeated both his LV 37 Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan in four turns without Dracula's HP even going out of the green.
Just another pokémon weak to Psychic, though. emo This imbalance of types makes me frustrated. scream

Guiz I actually started a comic about my Nuzlocke run. I'm crazy. I've been ill so not much progress from me sadly. Still stuck in Sunnyshore city. @W'nnabe: In a way I'm glad Barry isn't Gary. Barry is squishy, Gary is pure evil. EVIL! I love the fighting dojo for giving you a good Pokemon. I think Hitmonchan is deffo the cuter of them both. Try teaching your Pokemon dark/bug moves to counter Psychic Pokemon?

I hope you feel better soon, being sick is no fun. As for me, I didn't play much yesterday. I was able to catch another Spearow on Route 4 who I've named Melora. She's already stronger than Mark was, but I still miss him. Other than that, I just grinded a lot. I want all my Pokemon to be at level 20 before I try to face Misty, even though Davey could probably take her on now without any trouble. Better safe than sorry! Also, I have a question regarding the rules of Nuzlocke. In Yellow, you have the opportunity to get all three of the original Kanto starter Pokemon. You can get Bulbasaur from a girl in Cerulean City, Charmander from a boy on Route 24, and Squirtle from Officer Jenny in Vermillion City. My question is would it be breaking the rules of Nuzlocke if I took these Pokemon, or can I take them but not use them in battle? I know the rules of Nuzlocke are open for interpretation, I just want to hear what other people think.

I think I'll do a Nuzlocke on Sapphire once I transfer a few more Pokemon to Ruby/Platinum. It couldn't hurt to reset the old thing a few times before it dies completely.

I know the rules of Nuzlocke are open for interpretation, I just want to hear what other people think. For me personally a gift Pokemon is like a freebie. The rules require you to only catch the first Pokemon of an area, but NPCs giving you Pokemon shouldn't penalize you. Like how in Red and Blue you get a free fighting Pokemon or how you can get a Haunter in Diamond for trading it with a Medicham. Still, I can see that it may feel like cheating because they are 3 starters and starter Pokemon are pretty strong. If I were you I'd use one of those 3 starters and box the other two until the starter in your team dies or if you really need it (because the E4 completely wiped you). It's an interesting rule so I'll ask the people on the Nuzlocke forum what they think.

I had only finished 20% or so because I was distracted by HeartGold (I got Diamond from my cousin).

Yilanti Midnight @W'nnabe: In a way I'm glad Barry isn't Gary. Barry is squishy, Gary is pure evil. EVIL! I love the fighting dojo for giving you a good Pokemon. I think Hitmonchan is deffo the cuter of them both. Try teaching your Pokemon dark/bug moves to counter Psychic Pokemon? Now that I think about it, I probably would have been better off getting Hitmonlee. They're pretty even as far as their stats go (Hitmonlee is a bit stronger and faster whereas Hitmonchan has higher Defense), but I got Hitmonchan because of his learnset's type variety (FirePunch, IcePunch, and ThunderPunch); however, since Gen III registers those as Special attacks, Hitmonchan's horrid Sp. Atk makes it so that I can pretty much forget using those. xd I'm running into that problem with Dark type moves, too. Dracula knows Bite, but since Dark type moves are Special moves in Gen III and Golbat's Sp. Atk is sub-par at best, it's not working that well. Even Crobat's Sp. Atk is barely average for a fully-evolved pokémon, so this seems sort of risky for me. I'm thinking to counter Psychic types it would be best if I taught my pokémon Ghost type moves, which aren't considered Special in Gen III and are super-effective against Psychic types (although now I feel like an idiot because I deleted Dracula's Astonish for Wing Attack). I feel like I basically have TWO options: ONE: I can spend every last dime I have and buy TM30 (Shadow Ball) from the Celadon Game Corner and use it on Dracula. The downside to this is that I have to keep in mind Dracula isn't really a true counter to Psychic types, him being half Poison type. TWO: I can save a bit longer and buy a Scyther from the Celadon Game Corner. The downside to this is that Scyther doesn't actually learn any Bug-type moves via level-up except for Fury Cutter, which is practically useless. Silver Wind is pretty much the only good Bug-type moves in Gen III, but only the moth/butterfly pokémon learn it -- Scyther can learn it as an egg move, but breeding isn't exactly an option in a Nuzlocke. neutral As for NPC pokémon, I usually feel it's not cheating AS LONG AS I don't catch another pokémon from that area. This is usually pretty easy because most NPCs are found in the cities where there is no grass to encounter pokémon anyway (there might be water, but early in the game I only have an Old Rod, and I don't really want to catch a Magikarp, so...). If I knew I was going to get a Bulbasaur on Route 24, I wouldn't catch any pokémon on Route 24 and just take the Bulbasaur. Although, in the Pokémon Center on Route 4 in FireRed/LeafGreen, there is a Magikarp salesmen selling Magikarp for ¥500. I know some people buy one, and I don't really think it's cheating... I didn't buy one at the time, but now I'm thinking maybe I should go back and buy one. A Gyarados might be nice. neutral BTW, reading your comic, Yilanti. wink Barry... xd

Okay, Gary is seriously evil. Listen to what he says to me when I find him in Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town:
"Hey, Ki! What brings you here? Is your PokéMon dead? Hey! It's alive! I can at least make them faint! Let's go!"
Seriously? gonk
EDIT: Managed to beat him...but it was a close call for Tsubami and Spiz. His Gyarados is seriously strong, and his stupid Exeggcute's Hyponosis. crying

Tsubami evolved. heart
I beat Erika. Aphrodite had it hard (she was in the red!), and Dracula got caught up in a paralysis hax, but didn't take very much damage because he was resistant to Poison-type attacks.
I caught a Ghastly in Pokémon Tower. I named him Ahriman. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him yet...
I think I will go back to Route 4 and buy that Magikarp or try to catch one somewhere. Gary's Gyarados convinced me it might be worth it...
I still haven't decided what I'm going to do at the Celadon Game Corner. I have to clear the Team Rocket grunts out of Saffron City first. They're blocking almost every building entrance there is, including the gym! gonk

Ghastly's are pretty nifty, Gengar is really strong but you need to trade him for that evolution sadly. Personally I find Gyarados is ok. But not better than other water types imo. Just find a Electric type to beat Gyarados' butt and you'll be fine. And goshdang you Team Rocket! Seriously, worst pests ever (not including Gary).

I decided to take the Kanto starters as freebies, but to only use them if I really need them. So far, I've gotten the Bulbasaur who I've named Katie and the Charmander who I've named Nigel. No other new party members since I haven't been in any new grassy areas.
Just outside of Cerulean City, Gary snuck up on me. I wasn't expecting him to be there so most of my Pokemon were at lower levels than his. Still, I managed to beat him without any deaths. After making it through Nugget Bridge, I took on Misty. Like I predicted, Davey swept her whole team, along with the two JR Trainers, even though he was only level 18 when I first stepped into the gym. No more casualties as of now, I'm hoping it stays that way.
Now to do some more grinding so Katie and Nigel will be at the same levels as everyone else! In case you haven't noticed, I really like to grind my Pokemon. If you ask me, it's better to be extremely over prepared for anything than to be taken by surprise, like I was with Gary.
And yes, Gary is a jerk.

I haven't gotten the Magikarp yet. Now that I can get to Fuschia City where the Good Rod is waiting for me, I'll go to Vermillion and see if I can get that Horsea I wanted.
After thinking about it, I decided to box Ahriman. Ghastly/Haunter/Gengars have great Sp. Atk, but Ghost type moves are physical moves in Gen III, so he's virtually useless to me at the moment.
I caught the Snorlax on Route 12 and named her Tommolise (yes, I named her after Thumbelina...I don't mind irony). I'm going to try to catch the one on Route 16, too.
I think I'm going to get the Scyther... A new pokémon trumps a TM for me. I just wish Scyther actually learned Bug-type moves. mad I'll figure something out, though.
I don't mind having to trade pokémon to evolve... Once I get a GBA link cable, it won't be a problem. At this rate, almost half of my team will need to be traded to reach their fully-evolved forms. xd
